  1. You are somehow overlooking 4th rounder JR Graham
  2. Apparently my extremely heavy dose of sarcasm was not received! Or maybe I missed yours.
  3. The Wolves had a GM come into a terrible position. After four years they realized he was a terrible GM and fired him. The Twins have not moved quite as quick
  4. It would be pretty interesting to find out what Terry thinks our competitive advantage is. Only the Astros, who many suggested openly tanked for two years have fewer wins since the start of the 2011 season. So the quick answer is we don't have one. Like you point out, without one you have very little shot of being good for any long period of time.
  5. I have now converted to the idea of hiring a president from outside and putting him in charge of hiring a GM. Kudos to Thrylos, Nicksaving and others. Because at the end of the day without one it would be Pohlad conducting the search and he has no credibility at all, nor connections outside our team.
  6. I really wish the ticket sales thing was some baseless, outlandish comment. But unfortunately it is spot on. In my process of having the prospective GM provide a report on why we have been so bad and what has failed, I would hope they would highlight the insolar nature of the Twins org. The Goin hire, Rob Antony working his way up from completely odd sides of the business like community relations, etc. I would hope would be identified as red flags that will be addressed.
  7. The first thing I would do in my search is sit down with every Twins FO member who thinks they have a shot at the job and tell them I am hiring someone from outside the organization. Since 2011, only the Astros have won fewer games than us and they will likely pass us this year. So we need a new perspective. I would also let them know that the new GM is going to have free reign on who they keep and who they don’t. They would appreciate the candor and we would not waste anyone’s time with a fake interview. The two backgrounds I would be interested in would be a former successful GM or a #2 in a highly respected franchise. Regarding advanced statistics, all I have to go on here is public reports, like unbiased rankings where we are among the lower five in the league. Reports also suggest our department was formed after most teams in the league, is smaller and for a few years was just one person. And while other teams have gone out and hired an army algo traders, folks with NASA backgrounds, Ivy league degrees, etc. we hired a person from within like we always do. So I want someone that can catch us up quickly. A key part of my interview process would be a report from the prospective GM about how the Twins got to where they are and what their 1-3 year vision would be for turning this team around. These reports would go a long way in figuring out who the right person for the job would be. For example, the guy that says you should not have signed Ricky Nolasco is not offering up a ton of value. Meanwhile, the guy that flashes the chart of fWAR by pitcher age and highlights at about 27/28 guys decline, then lists all the guys we have signed well past this point would be helping his case.
  8. there comes a point where the manager gets blamed and replaced. The hitting coach. The pitching coach. Minor league coaches. All of those happened and we still suck. players deserve some blame too. But nothing is working right now so aim towards the top.
  9. This was Nolasco's 45th start. His ERA is well over 5.00. Meanwhile, Meyer got 1, Berrios got 4, and May had 25. So there's that
  10. Don't forget the doozy today by Charlie Walters "Terry Ryan losing sleep over Twins record". Of course not a critical word by Charlie. We are so lucky to have the hard hitting Walters and Hartman.
  11. And I think we have also concluded that he isn't a real good candidate to break in young players....... So......
  12. It is hard for me to put effort into individual changes I would make anymore. If you keep Terry, what makes anyone think he will start making the right decisions?
  13. I hope the GM gets 80 percent of the votes. He has fired and then hired these coaches. And drafted or signed almost all the players.
  14. We can't just say Mauer, Plouffe, and Dozier. Because the insistence on keeping Plouffe has weakened our best hitter (Sano). While at the same time Sano is on pace for almost a negative 3 wins defensively (Cue sarcastic slow clap)
  15. Nothing is more irritating than the insistence that guys like Plouffe, Nolasco, Hughes, and now we can add Dozier have trade value and need reps Time to move on.
  16. Yeah, we are losing more than our fair share of games. I don't know why talent and development is easier for most other teams.
  17. I think this is likely the case. Trees - You had a .750 OPS in Single A. You are promoted to AA. Forest - You only walked 35 times this year. You swung at 40% of pitches out of the zone, and your 2.5 to 1 k to BB ratio will only grow as you progress. You need to work on these things now in order to be a productive MLB player. Your goal for next year is to get your swings at pitches out the zone down to x, your k to BB down to y, and average pitches per at bat up to z. The whole predictive analysis is a work in progress with this club. The program and thought process could be fast tracked with new leadership.
  18. Alarp, "Absurd" is a great word to describe the leash the young guys have had. While Nolasco and Hughes can be terrible for years. Whether we have an issue identifying talent, developing talent, or bringing guys up at the right time, or yanking them too early it is an organizational problem that starts and ends with the GM. It seems to me that they lack a big picture thought process. Eddie Rosario for example, did anyone ever tell him in the minors that his plate discipline would not work in the big leagues? I am not saying completely change him. He was never going to walk 100 times a year. But at least steer him towards some middle ground between being Joe Mauer and hacking at every thing.
  19. = IF SALARY > $5 million, THEN bad starts > 50. Correia had 54. Pelfrey had 64. By my count Ricky still has at least 7 to go. Phil has at least 17 left.
  20. But they were in an August 1 timeframe in order to maximize trade value of 30+ year olds who have not been good in awhile
  21. Mr Brooks, The twins usually do the right thing, after exhausting all other alternatives. So expect this swap next spring. It is way too obvious to have happened
