  1. Mauer $23M Santana $13M Nolasco $12M Hughes $9M Plouffe $7.2M Perkins $6.3M Suzuki $6M Jepsen $5M Milone $4.5M Dozier $3M Park $2.7M Fein $2.2M Let’s take a step back. These 12 players are making $94M, not a cherry picked list. These are the Twins ranked by salary. How many of these guys could we trade right now and have another team take on their full contract? Park for sure. Maybe Dozier. A slight chance on Plouffe but probably not. So we have $89M devoted to 10 players that have no value at all. That is a huge indictment of the GM.
  2. The team is being run by second generation business folks who inherited a ton of money from their Dad. Second generation businesses fail.
  3. Meyer should not need to outrun the bear, he needs to out run Milone. Gibson. Nolasco, etc. Give me a guy with hype and run him out there.
  4. What is the big picture for Milone? I would argue a lack of big picture view is what irritates many of us. Further, it is delusional to think we are going to get anything of value for Nolasco. So it is not in the best interest to allocate many more innings to him in hopes he yields something slightly better (versus breaking in a talented pitcher) I can't help but think that guys like May and Meyer just don't fit the mold the Twins are used to. They have not been able to adjust to guys with slightly less than perfect control, even if they are a good 2 additional k's per 9 than what we have.

  6. Hughes needs to move to the pen. He has no velocity anymore. Get him up to 92-93 again in shorter stints, with his control and you can salvage the remainder of his contract. Of course that won't happen because he is making too much money. We should approach contracts as sunk costs and move forward with a simple question what is the best place for this guy in order to maximize wins? To the myriad of posters above, I am not sure how Meyer's treatment is defensible, on any level whatsover. To giving innings to Pino, etc. as Spy pointed out, or Milone now. or calling him up to be an emergency pen guy when you have guys better suited for that role screams the leaders don't have a clue what they are doing, or are not on the same page. Or both.
  7. I would be more than fine carrying an extra pitcher for a 4-6 week stretch if it meant letting Meyer get the work he needs. I would sacrifice a pinch hit attempt late in games for a team on pace to win 60 games
  8. Yeah, his employer has control over his rights for a few years. He has a $500k paycheck on the MLB squad and a lot less than that in AAA. Each additional year on the big league squad he earns more money. One could see an incentive to suck it up in the pen vs. start in AAA
  9. Good post. I agree Terry needs to sort through the roster. I would like to see us use the remaining 130 games to do that. A really intentional plan to break guys into the major leagues and clear spots for them. You touched on the confidence aspect. People perform better when their superiors believe in them. Sixel also touched on the other piece, setting people up for success. They have done a horrible job with both Meyer and Kepler. You could make a case that Buxton was rushed a bit too. Like you I am not overly confident these things are going to change. I have never seen a top down vision from Terry Ryan, or the execution of any coordinated plan by him and a coach. What you will likely see is a manager that is insecure about his job playing veterans because he thinks it may yield a few extra wins.
  10. I just hope the Twims realize we aren't winning the World Series this year and start going really, really young. And soon And that involves the GM and coach on the same page as to the objective. Develop talent for 2017. If Molitor is not board, time to find a new manager
  11. Through two innings he was filthy at times. Gas and knee buckling breaking balls. The HR was a double and then two base runners and the camera pans out to Milone warming up. I think it is safe to say our manager does not have the same opinion as you and I. If you believe in a guy and want him to succeed and/or feel an obligation to the franchise to find out what you have, you don't fire the pen up there. There isn't another Twins starter that would have been yanked that soon.
  12. The top three arms on the 40 man are Berrios, May, and Meyer. Let them all fail as starters before moving them to the pen.
  13. Yeah. Like most things, it should not be the problem that it is.
  14. I don't think he is implying we should not have so many good players. But rather the downside of having a Ton of unproven, talented players. I have advocated a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trade for a real good player partly for this reason. And also signing a good reliever or two, so we would not need so many relievers on the 40 man
  15. Buxton went 2-3 with a HR, SB, and OF assist
  16. That is the frustrating thing about Rosario. He hasn't really taken a step forward in terms of plate discipline, he had good overall numbers last year but you knew he could take a huge step forward with a better sense of the strike zone. I think his hands are his biggest asset and liability. They allow him to get to pitches outside the zone. In turn, that has prevented him from understanding that just because he can weakly hit or foul off a ball way out of the zone, doens't mean he should. Let the balls go by and get a better pitch to hit.
  17. The only conclusion I can draw based on Buxton's time here is that his bat is not ready for the big leagues. And the unrealistic comps to Mike Trout are far fetched at best. I think he will have a long MLB career, but my expectations have come down a bit. He went 1-7 with 3 k's in his first game in AAA, an extra inning game shortly after being demoted and flown across the country. If you take out that game, I come up with a .275/.322/.379 line with a 25.8% k rate (.701 OPS). The key for me is I can see Buxton staying in the low .700's, then tearing it up for a two week stretch and seeing his OPS jump to the mid .800's. I just hope the Twins don't immediately promote him when that happens.
  18. I agree with the sentiment of the post. But I don't know that we neccesarily gave up on Gomez, or that he can be considered a star. JJ Hardy has Gomez in career WAR 34 to 24. JJ is three years older, but he had an advantage through Gomez's age as well. Gomez has 24 career WAR across about 8.5 seasons. But he had 14 WAR between 2013 and 2014. His complete body of work is not in the star range, IMO. He would be a cautionary tale though, we rushed him as well and it basically took him 4.5 years to catch on. Maybe that curve could have been expedited if he had more time in the minors to work through things, less pressure as the face of the Johan trade, etc.
  19. Not to mention, he had a concussion and about four more injuries that make his 1,200 AB's in the minors 300, then a break, 150, then a break, etc. What he needs to do to succeed is stay healthy, make more contact and hit better with two strikes. His defense is going to be worth 2-3 wins in center. And his speed will always bolster his OPS quite a bit. Look at the 2013 stat line above, 12 HR, 18 2B, and 19 3B. That is flat out speed. You can't teach it. He just needs to spray the ball around a bit and run.
  20. Before I declare you a bust, please expand on the 65 mph heat. How was the movement?
  21. In fairness of the comparisons with Bastardo and Sipp, most were pushing for Bastardo to be signed, in addition to at least one other good reliever via sign or trade. This wasn't really an either or, Bastardo/Sipp or Abad. The Twins were operating under several premises that were a stretch: 1 - We had a decent, deep pen to begin with 2 - Perkins and Jepsen could be relied upon at the back of the pen 3 - We have 4-5 guys ready to step up from the minors. BTW, Chargois is the only guy pushing to be promoted right now and he is still in AA
  22. Yeah I don't get it. Wouldn't it be easier to push everyone back one day instead of sitting Meyer 10 days?
