  1. The bad news for the Twins in 1967 was losing the pennant by one game losing the last 3 games of the year with the last 2 to the Red Sox. That close to their 2nd WS in 3 years. The stats for Killebrew that they used was from 1969 but they used the 67 season so it was a mistake (or typo)
  2. Noticed that they made a mistake with Killebrew 1967 season. It should have been his 1969 season where they list 140 RBIs when describing the best season for a 1b.
  3. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24415801/all-time-single-season-team-minnesota-twins lists their all-time single season Twins season by position going back to the Senators days. They, also, list 5 starting pitchers and 3 relievers. Bob Alison beats outs Oliva in RF. 1.1975 Rod Carew 2.1988 Kirby Puckett 3.2009 Joe Mauer 4.1967 Harmon Killebrew 5.1928 Goose Goslin 6.1963 Bob Allison 7.1930 Joe Cronin 8.1996 Paul Molitor 9.1986 Gary Gaetti
  4. When they do come up it may take a while before they are quality starters.
  5. The Twins have done a bad job lately in developing players. Bruxton and Santo may not make an impact for few years.
  6. If the Dodgers were a small-market team and couldn't sign Kershaw I assume the best time to have traded him was after the end of the 2012 season. A team would have a year or so to try to sign him to an extension and 2 years of service time. The Rays have come to terms with David Price and he has 2 years left before he can become a FA.
  7. I wonder what they will do about the phantom double play at 2nd base? I think I read somewhere that it wasn't reviewable? It always was up to an umpire to determine the vicinity of 2nd base when turning the DP.
  8. Baseball-reference had Morneau's oWar at 1.8 when with the Twins in 2013. He was in a decline. Willingham isn't going back to the days of 35 HRs and 105 RBIs. Plouffe isn't likely to contribute much offensively. The only offensive player who excels is Mauer and he lost his HR power after signing a large contract.
  9. Dodgers have bad contracts in Matt Kemp, Crawford and likely Ethier. Adrian Gonzales wasn't that great last year as well. They could get burned here.
  10. The Twins in 2013 scored 614 runs and allowed 788. I don't know with this offense and Morneau traded last Sept. that their offense is going score more runs at the same time the new FA SP signed give up less runs to get to .500. Bullpens could spring a leak as well. Everything would have to come into alignment in order to get to .500.
  11. The Dodgets didn't learn from signing other bad long term contracts such as Park and Brown and Jason Schmitt.
  12. Because ARod is appealing in federal court documents were released showing the instructions on when and how to use steroids in order to avoid being caught. Wonder how many more labs are out there?
  13. How many foul balls and/or HRs have you grabbed in the stands during the game? I've gotten 1 in 120 games. A foul ball behind home plate from Eli Marrero that rolled to my feet in which I picked it up. There had been a rain delay so I was given two tickets to a seat near the field at the old Busch Stadium in St. Louis. I've had a couple of balls thrown to me before the game.
  14. The Yankees may have saved a few $$$s in 2014 but are not they still on the books for 3-4 years costing $80 million? Hopefully a few more bad contracts and the Yankees will stay out of FA.
  15. Morris received a higher % of HOF votes in 2000 than Blyleven. Blyleven was helped by advanced metrics and deservedly went in the HOF.
  16. Tony Oliva only had 1900 or so hits. He was a DH for the last 4 years. He was injury-proned as well. Kaat could have had one more 25 win season somewhere. Looks like the voters were making a stand and Kaat's ERA+ is better than Morris though you think of Morris as your ace year after year.
  17. Looking at his career splits he did better in the 2nd half of the season than the first. Excellent Sept/Oct numbers. Will have to be up to the Veterans Committee now. If he could have pitched more shutouts, won a Cy Young, and had a few more wins...
  18. I couldn't find it baseball-reference. . There are other umpire stats websites but I haven't found one that list batting averages when behind the plate. They used to have it on some gambling site.
  19. Most of the problems with some of the Hall of Fame voting is the Veterans and Old Timers committee. They inducted some players who don't belong there for various reasons such as the Tinkers, Evers and Chance trio and King Kelly among others. Some heavy lobbying goes on here.
  20. For that matter why should Sosa and Palmeiro get way less votes than either 2 of them? They would both would be elected to the HOF if they retired in time before the scandal came out.
  21. Morris will have to make it in the Veterans Committee. Wonder if he pitched fewer complete games if that would have made his ERA and WHIP numbers better since managers today think 6 or 7 innings is enough.
  22. See the Dodgers beat writer not voting for anyone but Morris. Steroid era.
  23. I haven't seen it for a number of years but there was a website that kept track of hitters' batting averages for each home plate umpires for the season. The home plate umpires will average around 40 games a year behind the plate. Does anyone keep track of this anymore? The one year I remember there was a large gap between the highest and lowest batting average.
  24. Stephen Drew's brother was J.D. Drew. J.D. always seemed to be missing games and would have a very good year stats wise when he was going to be a FA. I know they are not the same, but, they had the same agent.
  25. Drew is injury-proned. Sometimes wanting is better than having.
