  1. I doubt Pelfrey is going to get any better than he was last year.
  2. The bamboo posts washing up onshore seem like they were put there to help them build a raft in the last show.
  3. Shelby Miller is with St. Louis. Would you trade Sano for Shelby Miller? Shelby won 15 games as a rookie this year. What about Sano for Lance Lynn of the Cardinals or Joe Kelly of the Cards?
  4. First the Cards were lucky to have their ace, Wainwright, come back from surgery. Second they did a great job identifying young pitchers for the draft. Then of course developing them in the minor leagues. Getting Michael Wacha out of college as compensation for Pujols justified not paying $200 million for an aging veteran. The Cards have a great catcher who is one of the best all around at his position. His catchers ERA is a point lower when he is catching. Looking at the starting pitching of the Twins one can see why they are bad. Minnesota has a larger population than St. Louis so they should generate more revenue. I could see the Twins losing 90 a few more seasons if the new pitchers flop.
  5. After watching Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid Survivor show last night as well as this past weekend there appears to be some help for the participants. 2 couples yesterday happened to find bamboo poles so they could make a raft to get to an extraction point. The poles were washed upon the shore. Some how they make a raft from these poles and take it to a shore across a dangerous bay after 21 days of hardly eating and drinking. The camera crew is filming them cross the bay where they have to climb up a hill and walk 2 miles to be extracted. All of the reviews I've read about the show and little mention about any aid. The Dec. 8 show went 2 hours covering 2 couples over 21 days minus commercial breaks who happened to find each other after 10 days. Comments?
  6. No they don't have something resembling TD though the local newspaper has a mostly unmoderated fan forum. The Cardinals rebuilt their minor league system while maintaining a quality product on the field after the 2006 WS win. After 2006, the Cardinals had to rebuild their farm system since it had been ranked among the lowest in baseball. The Twins couldn't quite do this. Now the Cards have 8 or 9 mostly young pitchers who could start so some pitchers have to be in the bullpen. Reasonable contracts to their catcher and ace Wainwright. Holliday has produced after signing a 7 year contract. Signed a PED user at SS to solve that problem. Next year, the glut in SP may cause the Cards to have to trade someone. But, there are always injuries. Several of the young pitchers are cost-controlled.
  7. Buxton and/or Sano would have to be one of those prospects.
  8. I've posted here 20 times or so now. Been to 38 MLB parks including the Met and Target Field. Followed the Twins since the Rod Carew days in the mid-70's making them my favourite AL team. My overall favourite team is the Cardinals. Never had to bear 2 or more consecutive 90 game losing seasons. Like your bulletin board.
  9. The offense lost 17 HRs and 74 RBIs when Morneau left. Sano and Buxton are going to take some time getting here. Team needs to score 100 more runs and give up a 80 less to be around .500.
  10. Carlos Gonzales for Matt Holliday who was going to be a FA in a year was out of character. He traded Huston Street in that deal to Colorado as well and got little from the Cardinals at mid-season in 2009 when he traded Holliday.
  11. If you want to take a chance with injury-prone pitchers Jaime Garcia of the Cardinals could be had. He's on a throwing program since his surgery last May. Cards are stocked with young SP some have to be used in the Bullpen. Not sure who the Cards would want from the Twins so not likely a trade could be made before Opening Day.
  12. Maddux, Biggio and Thomas. Glavine in the future.
  13. How did this guy get such a large contract? He was injured before his arbitration years.
  14. The Royals acquired Aoki from the Brewers for a 24 year old, Will Smith, who started a few games in 2012. Aoki is an excellent fielding CF and is a good singles hitter who can hit some doubles. Won a couple of batting titles in the Japanese League. He will be 32 in January. Seems durable. Will Smith might have started this year for the Royals. Wouldn't Aoki help the Twins offense this year?
  15. Pujols has had a tear in his elbow for several years now. He has bone spurs there. He has had feet problems for x number of years now. Some think he is older than his reported age. Shouldn't have been signed for more than 5 years. The Cardina;s are thankful now he didn't sign after making a big offer at the last minute. This newest Elsbury contract will be another disaster.
  16. What about the Cardinals Lance Lynn or Joe Kelly? Lynn who won 33 games over the last 2 years may be put in the bullpen next year. Kelly may be, also? Not sure what the Cardinals would want from the Twins in regards to prospects though.
  17. The Jayson Werth contract and the Vernon Wells contract were worse and perhaps the Matt Kemp contract. Of the top 10 OF contracts for money 6 of the players were traded and the Reds tried to trade Griffey.
  18. There has been some years where there haven't been any good FA contracts that were longer than one year. If Nolasco and Hughes do poorly in 2014 and 2015 this could be a long spell of 90 loss seasons. The offense needs to score 100 more runs and the pitching needs to give up 100 less runs to get to 85 wins. That is likely a couple of years away on the offense side.
  19. What's the best rib joint(s) in Minneapolis/St. Paul? Also, your favorite bruger place near the Twins ballpark? I went to Target Field last year and the burger I had at a local restaurant on the St. Paul side was only ok with the embedded cheese. Want to try a different place.
  20. Twins need to improve to keep attendance from dropping. Say it drops below 2 million which is 700,000 less than 2013 that would mean what $30 million less in revenues?
  21. Jake Westbrook for 1 year for $1-2 million. Could start and pitch long relief.
  22. One thing it does is keep the Cardinal's young pitcher's cost-controlled. They have 10 quality SP with more from the minor leagues on the way. They have Wainwright, Lance Lynn, LH Garcia coming back from surgery, Wacha, Carlos Martinez, Siegrist (in the BP), Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly, closer Rosenthal (who could start), and Tyler Lyons.
  23. If the bullpen keeps their 3.5 ERA and Nolasco and Hughes pitch well I could see some optimism. Even signing Arroyo won't overcome the Tigers.
  24. If the signing keeps a young pitcher from coming up earlier than he should this signing is fine. Hard to believe his ERA won't be under 4.9.
  25. There was talk that the Rockies wanted 4 players-- mostly young pitchers- from the Cardinals and slugger Matt Adams. Don't think Tulo is available.
