Article: Twins Roster Projection 2017: Version 1.0
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was a lot more excited last year at this time. I think this is the year we've been looking forward to with all of the kids being penciled in for their spots to start out the year. It doesn't feel like I was hoping it would. I hope we can keep Dozier, need to stop giving away REAL players for PROSPECTS as most will not pan out. Hopefully the kids go a couple steps forward and we can find a way to turn some of our starting pitchers into pitchers. I think Seth's names are in the right places, I just want those players to step up and produce and become more consistent.- 87 replies

Article: Bringing Back The Band... And That's Just Fine
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd be willing to bet that every single organization in baseball does this. Maybe even the Cubs and Indians. They haven't won in forever, and they did ok. We need to get over this.- 81 replies

Article: Penciling A 2017 Starting Rotation
Lefty replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Berrios should be here because he has nothing less to accomplish in AAA? This is MLB folks, it's not about how good we are at the AAA level that should get us into MLB. If we can't produce at the MLB level, there is somewhere else for us to be. I think he'll be a good starter at some point, but he's proved a few times that it ain't here yet. We are so entrenched into "Loserville USA" that we're totally willing to give up wins to give a kid experience at the big league level and it's been costing us BIG in the W/L column. Whoever comes in to make personnel decisions has got their hands full because the cupboard is empty. We can't settle for mediocrity. Berrios is not mlb ready right now and shouldn't be considered. We need to find good pitching elsewhere. The sad part is that he is probably the 3rd or 4th best option at this point. RESET.- 254 replies

Article: Twins First Half Summary: Murphy's Law
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't know what kind of leash TR has on him as far as spending goes, but it's time to stop spending on mediocre pitchers that he thinks our staff can get some extra out of. If you want to win, you need STARTING pitchers. Not these guys. The Twins have hired Twins guys to run this team forever, and the pool has gotten stale. It's time for some new blood. I think the young pieces can still develop. I agree with what someone else said on here earlier though, the vets and the leadership that the club has needs to be flushed so that a new mindset can be developed. This team need to either bring in vets to lead that movement or let these young guys lead. Vets need to go, from the top down.- 64 replies

I'd like to see some of the young guys step up and turn into a leader instead of wishing we still had someone like Torii Hunter back. They need to find their identity, and get fed up with losing. Wishing guys would step up like A.J., Koskie, Dougie baseball, and Torii did back in the day. These guys are in the same position as those guys were 15 years ago and they need to grind through this mess and find a way. I don't see how this pitching will get it done. Need starters deeper into games to save this bullpen. Being okay with the slow starts of Gibson and Milone is only accepting losing. They need to be sharp. All we've done is dug a hole and accepted the fact that it's okay because they did the same last year. Had they showed up ready to play last year and won a few early we would have made the playoffs. NEW CULTURE NEEDED.

If I remember right, Danny had a great year when Gardy was the skipper.

TK didn't like young players either and that hasn't stopped Molitor from throwing them in there over the last year. This won't hurt the Twins.

Article: Twins 2016 Season Preview: Rising Power
Lefty replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Remember a few years ago when we were all saying, "wait until 2016." Here we are, and they are all still young, but we're gonna see em. Should be a fun, exciting, and frustrating year. I love the youth on the offensive side, we're gonna score some runs I'm guessing. We still don't have the pitching to get us over the hump. I'm sure Berrios is going to be good, but I'd like to see a true horse of an ACE show up soon. Go Twins! -
Do the Twins have a grit-guy like Gladden anymore? You just don't see guys like that anymore. I think AJ Pierzynski (sp?) fit that mold as well. Guys you like to have on your team but you hate to play against. I think it's one thing that the Twins have been missing.

Article: Opening Day Roster Nearly Set
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Duffey is not going to dominate with two pitches for very long, especially with an average fastball. I am not opposed to him working in AAA for a little longer. He was up last fall out of necessity and he did very well, but I don't think that is sustainable. I'm hoping to see Berrios up before he is. Ideally we see nobody else up because our staff is dominating. We shall see. I'd like to see a few of the younger fireballing relievers up before any of the other starting pitchers come up. Let's see some gas, or preferably just hear it. ZZZZZZZZZ Pop.- 92 replies

Article: Dreaming Of 200 Home Runs
Lefty replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'll do progressive beer chugs. One for the first bomb. 2 for the second and so on. Here's to hoping I get sloppy. I know he's played and is very good at where he's been, but so were a lot of the other prospects that reached the majors. It's the MN sports fan in me, aren't we trained to be pessimistic?- 71 replies

Thirty from a guy that's never seen a that's never seen a pitch in major league baseball? I hope a year from now you can say I told you so. I'll say that we're gonna see more HR from Arcia than we are from Park, and I'd guess that number is closer to 0 than 30. I REALLY hope I'm wrong.- 71 replies

Article: The Offseason Of Trevor Plouffe
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope it all works out with Plouffe here in MN. He has definitely improved at third and I think it would be foolish to let him go when he is being mentioned as close to gold glove level there and is a productive hitter as well. If Sano weren't being moved to the outfield, we'd all be questioning whether he'd be able to play a solid 3b. Plouffe is a known commodity in his prime. Park is an unknown commodity. Mauer is holding first base hostage, I wish Sano was moving there instead. We've begged for a solid third baseman since Koskie and now that we have one, we want to move him. I hope he can weather the storm and let the other chips fall in the next few years. It reminds me a lot of Cuddyer, we watched him struggle for years and he eventually became a solid player for us. KEEP HIM!!! -
Article: 2016 Roster Projections: The Outfielders (Part 1)
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Jeez, I forgot about Arcia. I have a feeling we'll see him traded, that's what seems to be floating around anyway. If he does get traded, I'm hoping it's to an NL team, I could see him getting his feet under him someday and totally going off for 30-40 bombs. Crazy streaky power. Wouldn't be against seeing him in the OF for the Twins. Maybe we can get a corner infield spot to open up somehow (maybe some kind of bi-lateral leg issue), move Sano to one of those, and fill his spot with Arcia.- 74 replies

Article: 2016 Roster Projections: The Outfielders (Part 1)
Lefty replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope to see Buxton succeed like everyone else. My ideal is going to be Buxton, Rosario, and Sano which I think is what the Twins are shooting for. I'm hoping Walker can get his cup of coffee somewhere in here too. Strikeouts suck, but I dig the longball and the run production. I don't want to be negative on Kepler because he had an amazing year last year. It seems that everyone is always looking for the regression year for all of these prospects coming up but it's never mentioned for Kepler. Wouldn't he be due for this also. If I look at it that way then Rosario would be due for that also, but I guess I'm just not banking on Kepler being ready just yet.- 74 replies

Article: Sano In The Outfield? Get Ready to Juggle
Lefty replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think Rosario should go anywhere. He had a really good rookie season. Hicks I think has really progressed and should be a starter somewhere. Buxton could be in there soon enough. That is an extremely fast outfield that can defend. I think getting Sano accustomed to the OF is totally fine, if he can play the infield at all, he is probably athletic enough to do the OF. We'll have plenty of range to cover for him as long as two of the other three can hold down a spot. Might as well see if he's competent out there at some point. My bet is that he'll still be our everyday DH. Park hasn't even proven himself at the Single A level, why are we slating him in anywhere? Plouffe needs to stay too. He's been solid for the last couple years here and as soon as we ship him, we're looking for another option at 3B, and we all know how long we've been looking for that. As much as I like Mauer, he's slugging our progression as a team to a halt. I don't think he's a terrible liability, but as good of an athlete as he is, he should be the one moving around and trying on different gloves. -

Article: The Twins $55 Million Question
Lefty replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why do we have to trade anybody? Someone will go down the second we do, then what? Why should we give away anybody that is producing? We won't get a thing for any of them, and we should know this from past experience. We have waited a long time to have a decent rotation and now we're going to give it away because we actually have enough pitching. Make one or two of these guys go to the bullpen so we can purge the system of some of the garbage in there. Hold on to talent while it's here! Can't Milone replace Duensing? Nolasco should go there as well.- 55 replies

Article: The Outlook In The Outfield
Lefty replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think Walker should be looked at sooner than later. I'm with lightfoot. Some people drive in runs, some don't, he DOES! I just don't know where he fits yet, but I'd like to see him get a shot sometime... wherever that may be. I'd like to see Buxton in CF, Rosario in LF, and Arcia in RF. I think Hicks is a good 4th OF as well. Good defensive replacement and can steal bases off the bench. Don't know much about Kepler other than he's tearing up double A right now. Arcia has too much power to give up on. He needs to play. Rosario should not be sent down. He hasn't regressed yet, and I hope he doesn't. He's one of our best hitters right here, right now. I don't think Sano will be in the OF, they would have tried it by now if that were going to be an option.- 70 replies

Article: Correa Just Opened The Door For Buxton
Lefty replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins begin to slip a little bit in the standings, I'd like to see him brought up to see if he could help. Maybe he'd give the team a little shot in the arm. I don't think that we should compare batting averages or slugging percentages with guys like Bryant because I don't think he's going to be that type of a player, but he will bring things that these other guys can't. I don't think that he needs to be rushed because of Bryant or Correa. I think the Astros have really pushed a lot of their prospects, because they didn't have any major league talent in the last couple of years until now. Cubs haven't either. But then again, maybe the Twins don't either! We've been super conservative on how fast we bring guys up, other than with Hicks. I think that experiment may have them a little gun shy. I want him up. We all want that shiny new toy, and this one could be fun. -
Article: How Is Mike Pelfrey Doing This?
Lefty replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pretty happy for the guy. As much as I wanted to see him go for the last two years, I'm glad he's having the success that he is. It had to be hard coming back from TJ and not being able to throw like he was used to. Not only that, but he's been ridden extremely hard by 99% of Twins critics out there, me included. Good for him, keep it up. Also you've gotta respect his optimism and confidence, he hasn't been one to hang his head and make excuses. -
Mauer seems to me like the man that should make a move to the OF. We have Vargas and Sano, two guys that are going to be too big to play anywhere other than 1B or DH. I'm hopeful that Vargas' swing and power will come around and he can be a middle of the order guy. Sano hopefully pans out like with think he will. Two big bats with big power and no place to put them? Sorry Joe, get out the OF glove. We can't leave pop like this on the bench or AAA. I like Plouffe, he seems to have taken the veteran leadership role on a little bit, I feel like we need him to be where he is.
