  1. It is a little sad when your $20M + catcher turned first baseman provides so little leadership that you need to bring Bartlett and Kubel back to help change the culture in the clubhouse!
  2. Cutting Pressley is not going to hurt the Twins IMHO. He is a fringe player and we've got other fringe players who can replace him, like Mastroiani. Bartlett may not get the job done and if so, replace him. Needless to say, but Twins are going nowhere anytime say if Pressley is your starting CF?
  3. MLB creates a value for each of the players that are set to go through arbitration. They evaluated Plouffe against other 3rd baseman and estimated a "market rate" based upon his performance to date and numerous other factors. While some may not agree that Trevor deserves the $, he is being paid based upon the market. It just may be he is better than we think!
  4. I realize Mauer has just made the FT move to 1st base, but why couldn't he be a potential solution at 3rd? There is no question it is hard to switch positions, however, in my opinion, Mauer would be very likely to do a very good/excellent job at 3rd. If Sano continues to struggle defensively isn't this an option? Move him to 1st and let one of the top athletes to ever come out of Minny move to 3rd.
  5. I like the logic (and the optimism!). It is hard to find pitchers with Pelfrey's size, FB velo and overall stuff. The other pitcher I believe will surprise in a positive manner is Gibson. He has very good velo and should be ready to make a big step up in 2014. I read the article stating he led the league in strikes being called balls......the umpires know this now and I think they will adjust. He has as much ability as any pitcher on the staff, now we need him to put it to good use!
  6. Thanks for this info. I watched a video of him throwing and was wondering why he was considered a "soft tossing lefty". Not sure when the video was shot, but he was consistently 91-92 with his fastball. Off speed looked sharp as well. I don't think the Braves would let someone like that go--your comments seem to provide the answer.
  7. I agree with those who say Collabello. Great story with his long minor league history and stats, but doesn't appear that he will ever be an impact player in MLB.
  8. We we need some life and accountability in the clubhouse! Who on the current roster is willing to be the least bit vocal? It's a long season and joe Mauer is an incredible talent but by all indications loathes taking any leadership role. AJ would change some of the country club mindset. Sign him!!!
  9. I think we'd be better off finding a couple of up and coming pitchers vs. those on the back side of their careers. Both Haren and Lincecom are quickly deteriorating, but if I had to choose 1 I like Haren better.
  10. Thanks, very helpful.
  11. Does anyone have input on Madison Boer? I would have expected our 2nd round pick from 2011? to be on list or at least a mention in "others". Haven't really followed him, but wondering what the word is--clearly he must not be living up to 2nd round status....
  12. When I think of Gladden, Gaetti, Hrbek, Puckett, Hunter I think of guys who hated to lose. I just don't get that impression with the current team and think some of those types have to be added. Obviously talent is an issue, but even when the talent arrives we need some passion/energy, hate to lose guys!
  13. One other things while I'm hot! I was with an ex MLB player over the weekend and he is convinced a large part of the Twins problem is that some many of the players have spent their careers on losing teams. Many of the minor league teams lost at similar levels as the Twins circa 2011/12/13. Bad formula to try to get players comfortable with losing to turn it around.
  14. This is a HUGE problem for the Twins and Terry Ryan/Gardenhire own it. They know what you need over a long season in order to get a team to play at or above their potential. Let's face it, Mauer is a wet noodle with a great swing and athleticism. He will NEVER be a leader. He probably puts half the team asleep when his says something. I'm sure his teammates respect his talent but in no way view him as a motivator or someone who will call out a player who isn't performing. Bring in AJ--my guess he gets in several fights the first month on the season as he deals with the librarians! It would be great for the team to see someone with some passion for the game.
  15. Mr Brooks--I think Terry Ryan should try to sign him to a multi year deal. Again, he's far from perfect, but I just don't see a wave of talent behind him in the farm system or via FA that would be better. It's probably more a sad statement on the current pitching in the farm system; many potential back of the rotation guys and very few front line starters. Just seems to me that we needs some mid-90's guys who can eat innings and he fits the requirments. Won't be winning the Cy Young award, but I believe he'll be pretty good over the next few years.
  16. I agree with Brandon--There is no cavalry coming to save Twins pitching in 2014. Pelfrey will eat innings and is getting better. Coming off TJ surgery the odds are high that he will be better in 2014. We need pitching, many of the FA suggestions other have made are no better and in most cases worse. He's far from perfect, but he's more than functional.
