  1. I agree that Falvey and Levine probably have Dozier valued pretty well, but I think you are really overstating the rest of it. Especially regarding the starting pitchers, I figure they will want at least spring training and several months of the season to get a better handle on those guys.
  2. To get you up to speed, the Dodgers have refused to include Alvarez or Buehler in offers. The combination of Stewart and Wood is probably acceptable to the Dodgers, though Wood is a pretty uninspiring piece if you're the Twins. In my opinion, Wood doesn't really differentiate himself from the group of Hughes/Berrios/Santiago/May/Duffey/Meija/etc. who figure to compete for three of the rotation spots.
  3. Have the Dodgers offered Buehler or Stewart?
  4. Can they compete? Sure. Will they compete? Not likely, but take the field and see what happens.
  5. Sorry but I'm not bothered if the Twins are characterizing these offers as 1:1 offers. Dozier for De Leon, Sheffield, and some low C prospect of our choice? I would call that 1:1. Sheffield is a guy with red flags who is not on track to debut in MLB for at least three more seasons-- as a reliever. Sheffield is not insurance against De Leon not working out.
  6. But if you recall the Surplus Value discussion we had of prospects, isn't that also a realistic way to judge what the Dodgers are offering us?
  7. Not really. Is Sheffield anything special to you? If the point of trading Dozier is to improve starting pitching, both your deals are essentially 1:1 Dozier for De Leon, in my opinion.
  8. eh? I have read just about all of the 626,832 posts in these 720 Dozier threads this past month, and I do not recall a Dozier-wilts-in-the-big-market angle ever being debated for more than a post or two, or even being mentioned at all, quite honestly. And anyone who has followed Dozier knows that he does not wilt in big moments. He hit a pinch-hit home run in the All Star Game, fer pete's sake
  9. I was with you until the last sentence. I think the Dodgers know he could be very good, and certainly good enough to land a guy like Dozier in a trade. The Dodgers just don't have room for De Leon in the rotation in the short run and they don't see the utility in stashing him in the minors or bullpen the next year or two when he's ready for his best shot right now, is my best guess.
  10. I disagree but that's fair.
  11. Too late, apparently.
  12. That and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee
  13. I have come around to thinking that Alvarez is off the table and the Dodgers are not parting with him. Alvarez has such a smooth and effortless delivery, like Mariano Rivera. Alvarez finished last season at low A but I bet he will finish this season holding his own in AA. I still think a trade could be made centering around De Leon and one other good pitcher. Also, I think the 24 hour clock has started ticking, otherwise we wait until after caravan and Twins fest to start speculating again.
  14. So let me get this straight: some folks say the Twins have "no chance" to contend in 2017, but to those same folks, 80 wins is a bit worrisome?
  15. don't know if you have answered this somewhere, but what is your opinion of Alvarez (or at least of the videos discussion and scouting reports you have seen and read).
  16. Unfortunately, I am less and less sure this has been offered. I would feel taken if I were the Dodgers giving that up.
  17. Forced to decide one way or another, I will say 'nay'.
  18. JDL on a similar timetable did not make his debut as reliever so maybe not? The Dodgers think highly of Alvarez and rightly so.
  19. Thanks for the post. I think Longenhagen was typing too fast. Especially if he is also "at 11" on the guy as reported by Jimmer There is no reason to think Alvarez won't begin 2017 in A+ and earn a call up to AA before 2017 is done. Likewise, JDL began 2015 in A+ and earned a call to AA before 2015 was up, then made his debut at the end of 2016.
  20. In the event your survey is still open.... 1) Who do you expect the Dodgers to consider untouchable? none 2) How do you rank the following pitching prospects (feel free to include other names): Yadier Alvarez, Walker Buehler, Jose De Leon, Jordan Sheffield, Brock Stewart, Ross Stripling? Alvarez - De Leon - Stewart - Buehler - Stripling - Sheffield 3) How do you rank the following hitting prospects (feel free to include other names): Cody Bellinger, Willie Calhoun, Yusniel Diaz, Gavin Lux, Alex Verdugo? Bellinger - Verdugo - Calhoun - Lux - Diaz 4) Which of these role players (if any) would you be okay with as a 3rd or 4th piece (add other names if you want): Austin Barnes, Chris Taylor, Trace Thompson, Andrew Toles, Scott Van Slyke? don't know 5) Who are some interesting sleepers in the Dodgers system that you like? Mitchell White, Chase DeJong 6) Who are on your 'I don't want this player in a trade no matter what' list? Puig 7) What is your minimum acceptable trade? not sure. De Leon plus a meaningless additional piece is not acceptable. 8) What is your dream trade (that does not include anyone you considered untouchable)? Alvarez + De Leon + White/DeJong, for Dozier + other 9) Would you consider it a failure if Dozier is in a Twins uniform on Opening Day? no 10) What do expect Dozier's WAR to be in 2017 & 2018? 4.5, 4.0 11) If Dozier is traded to the Dodgers, what is your over/under for his home runs in 2017? 28 Additional comments: This is all guessing, of course. Higher on Alvarez now than I was a week ago. It was fun to read up on the Dodgers system and they look absolutely stacked. I also believe Dozier is the real thing. Let them pay!
  21. True, but what LaVelle failed to mention was that it wasn't until February when the Knoblauch deal was consummated.
  22. ^ bump I saw this and have been meaning to get to it.
