  1. Not sure what you mean by "he reacted", but the front office has been unwilling to talk to Dozier about an extension, so love it or not Dozier seems as good as gone after (or during) 2018. Good for him. I hope he goes to a winner.
  2. May and Meyer are interesting examples, as neither of those guys has amounted to much as major league baseball players. I hope Gordon has a great season, both on and off the field. I wonder if the Twins see Gordon as the shortstop of the future here, or if he will platoon at SS with Royce Lewis and Wander Javier someday (snark). Gordon seems more like a valuable trade chip than future Twin, imo.
  3. The cheap payrolls of the last several seasons are going to look bloated after Mauer plays out his contract. This second point I also agree with. At this point my guess is that by hiring a new pitching coach and guys like Josh Kalk in the front office, that Falvey and Levine believe they will be able to marry analytics with intelligent, young starting pitchers to get good results. Over a six month season this is very likely to fail, but all we can do is hope it works.
  4. Well, I'm a horrible human being, Garcia signed elsewhere https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/02/blue-jays-sign-jaime-garcia.html I'm sure the Archer trade for Kepler will be announced any moment now
  5. Remember back in the day when Pittsburgh requested Gordon in exchange for Gerrit Cole? Good times, good times
  6. I will also try Jaime Garcia, Saturday the 17th
  7. Ok I'll bite: June 5, 2018, and I will forego the bonus on guessing the name
  8. I wouldn't be so sure. I have no expectations. I'm assuming signing/trading for a #5 guy doesn't count (assuming Garcia is probably a #4 type)
  9. Thursday morning, an elite veteran pitcher on an amazing one year deal
  10. Berardino now leading us to believe the offer was actually closer to 5/100 than even 5/110 https://www.twincities.com/2018/02/13/starting-nine-answering-twins-biggest-questions-as-spring-training-begins/ The front office owes these players some quality starting pitchers, right away. These guys are a true team, and good enough to win now in 2018. They can't sustain it for six months like they did last Aug-Sept with just Berrios and Santana, and crossing their fingers with the other guys. At this point their best chance I think is to outbid the market for Cobb for 4 years, or do a shorter but richer deal for Lynn.
  11. Interesting, thanks. Didn't realize that was out there. One of the weaker arguments is that since the Twins offered "a lot of money" they should be immune from criticism. Maybe if Kershaw opts out of his deal next offseason (were the Dodgers aware that opt-out was in the Kershaw contract?) so if Kershaw is on the free agent market, the Twins should offer Kershaw 5/110 and then be proud they gave it their best shot and people should accept that. No. Darvish was worth more than 5/110. He is most likely worth more than 6/126, but we'll see. Thanks again. The Twins still have a lot of questions to answer, about both the Darvish negotiation and more importantly their rotation plans for 2018-2019
  12. Shouldn't Cobb have been signed by now, or was that going to be a cakewalk too?
  13. Good response. The front office guys will not fall on their swords, but it puts them in a tighter spot with Darvish off the board. I don't believe they will make any meaningful trades, so that leaves free agency. We don't know what Cobb is asking, but we do know that he turned down an 3/42 offer (not sure where link is). We need Cobb more than he needs us, and he won't be offering us a discount. And the Twins aren't interested in Arrieta, or Lynn I don't think. The whole league knows that the Twins badly need pitching, and will leverage that against us now.
  14. I think I saw the back half of our rotation hanging from those things
  15. Well, now Nick is telling us they actually gave up on Darvish several weeks ago. Which, on the timeline, would put us back to about the time of Twins Fest. And at that time, they said they hadn't even made him an offer yet. Which would then lead me to believe the front office knew they weren't making Darvish a serious offer.
  16. Feel free to do that yourself. This matters, a lot.
  17. by the way, what ever happened about the Twins wanting to make Darvish their highest paid player? The front office said that at the start of the offseason.
  18. you have so many good articles keeping this site going, easy to understand how you might get them confused True, we don't know the details. Maybe the Twins were warming to an opt-out but were slow to the draw. Who knows. The Twins really did hype the possibility of Darvish signing here, and it's been the topic of discussion all winter, so I don't think it's a big thing to spend 24-48 hours blowing off steam now that it's over. The Twins could still make something of this offseason. We'll see.
  19. It was Max Kepler's birthday recently. The reason I know this is because the Twins promoted it on Facebook. At this point let's keep him a while
  20. Not going to happen. In my opinion this is just P.R. fluff to deflect from the Darvish fiasco. But if they can pull it off at this late date without dealing Kepler or Lewis, by all means.
  21. No, but nice try In December you wrote the Twins must get creative to lure Darvish. How so? By being open minded to an opt out provision, and even sillier, suggesting that the Twins should consider signing Chris Gimenez too. (The very things the Cubs did.) You concluded the article by projecting Darvish to sign at 5 years, 135 million. So it really stretches the imagination that Twins Daily, or you, or whoever, is "fine" with Darvish signing elsewhere for 6 years and 126 million. That's right, more years, less money. Not a peep of protest or regret from anyone in there??
  22. $110 million is a lot of money! Doesn't matter the player, Kershaw, Darvish, Bryce Harper, Kyle Gibson... it's a lot of money
