  1. I clicked like, but I’m so tired of the scare language about Trump. Bernie was right about one thing for sure: pounding on Trump for the whole campaign will result in failure.
  2. This country needs to make a choice. Trump or Bernie. **** or get off the pot, as my dad used to say.
  3. Good post, but with that one line, you give it all away. I don’t think Dems will take their historical blue states for granted this time, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did. (Because polls.) Minnesota was a fraction from turning red in 2016, and the malaise from a successful 2018 might be enough to push Minnesota into voting for Trump in 2020. I could easily see Biden and the rest of the Democrat clowns campaigning heavily in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, but then ignoring Minnesota completely. The only two candidates I see who wouldn’t take Minnesota for granted are Amy and Bernie.
  4. Great read. Also, the story is actually from today, the 25th, so, timeliness. Reading this, I still don’t have to squint hard to be skeptical that fully autonomous vehicles will arrive any time soon. I’ve already placed my bet on “never,” so I’ll happily hold that bet, but maybe hedge it with “a couple decades” bet too... I really like the Waymo-Tesla comparison in here, seems very much like a tortoise-and-hare scenario, with Tesla going for flash and Waymo playing the long game to get it right. I think having actual people themselves driving millions of miles in these vehicles, people driving them with the autopilot disabled or in shadow mode, is the way to make this last mile or long tail work. (I’m surprised and disappointed the writer sees this as a bad thing, however.) hell, being a Waymo driver could be a career in itself for some people, if the company is truly committed and wants to build good will with these things.
  5. The reference is to a new poster who is a Trump supporter whose posts get deleted.
  6. Thanks for that perspective.
  7. I mean, those cars aren’t going anywhere, just driving around in circles. Literally. It’s a start, but I’m no less skeptical. Braking does create an accordion effect, but so do intersections, hazards, and reaching destinations. I’d like to see a study that takes those into account.
  8. What are the Google, GM, Volkswagen city tests? I am not familiar.
  9. Not my question; and your link is broken/nonexistent
  10. Are there studies that show the accordion effect will be eliminated, or is that just your belief?
  11. I am not hostile to addressing problems that pertain to dense urban populations.
  12. Powell, Norwood, Disco Dan Ford were the first players I remember, even though I was old enough to see Hisle and Bostock and should have remembered them instead, those other guys for some reason left an impression on me. Tony O and Harmon were just out memory, unfortunately, but I like reading stories about them.
  13. I mean, that was the plan all along, wasn’t it?
  14. And the political part: People like to drive. Maybe not people who post here. Heck maybe not even a majority of people everywhere. Maybe I am wrong about that! But I will believe this issue has traction when politicians start campaigning on it, which seems light years away. And again, they would need to because the money is not feasible. I would like to see Klobuchar go on a long speech and tell the crowd that their cars and pickups will be replaced with self driving vehicles, you won’t have to be a truck driver or drive your work truck anymore, computer programmers from California will tell it what to do, and won’t that be great, etc. Again, I believe there are political solutions better than self driving cars, even in the city. Much better solutions.
  15. So I guess I failed to see, from Brock’s post onward, that what is really important, the issue is self driving cars would fix the congestion on the 9-to-5 highway commute? Possibly, sure. I don’t doubt that little stretch of road is being solved. Then after we exit the highway, we all disable the self driving feature? The record of self driving cars on closed tracks in warm weather states on sunny days wouldn’t convince me. Uber and Pittsburgh are apparently scaling expectations way, way back on their experiment, based on an article I just looked at. So like another poster said above — self driving cars are fake news? Yeah, maybe a little. In any case, I believe there are better ways to mitigate the morning commute issue that have nothing to do with throwing billions of dollars at tech celebrities who would not set foot in Minnesota unless money could be made.
  16. “People love to drive too much. People don’t want to be forced to sit in their truck or car but not allowed to steer or break. People love to drive. Always have. Maybe the 20-somethings want this new driverless stuff. I don’t know. Maybe the big companies should market this to them, then. ” Honestly, what part about that is “wildly inaccurate”?
  17. Or help fix the homeless problem?
  18. I will defer to you on the tech, but only to a point. However, there won’t be a political breakthrough tomorrow. That’s closer to 20 years away or more. People love to drive too much. People don’t want to be forced to sit in their truck or car but not allowed to steer or break. People love to drive. Always have. Maybe the 20-somethings want this new driverless stuff. I don’t know. Maybe the big companies should market this to them, then.
  19. True, lots of people consider Houston a shoo-in, but I’m not so sure
  20. oh yeah how about that, we don’t see them again all year (at least until the ALDS or wild card) Thank you, unbalanced schedule!
  21. At least we don’t play Houston again until ... *checks schedule* ...next week.
  22. We joke a lot on here, but that was a prodigious home run shot, if there ever was one.
  23. And will he get there before the baseball gets there?
  24. Just kinda sneaked over the wall... or something...
