  1. And I bet he'll be just as tradable next year as Nolasco is now. This doesn't make any sense, but it's sounds like a Ryan plan.
  2. I hope the Twins hold off signing anyone now, no need to make another Nolasco signing. Let the market play out for awhile and see if you can add bargins later. Garza and Santana signed late last year. If not go with the young players and make the a move in free agency next year.
  3. On the LD%, I'm going to have to agree with Torii Hunter, I'm going to believe my eyes and not the stat. There was very little drive in Mauers bat last year no matter what the stats say.
  4. I'm in this camp also, the signs just don't point to a positive outcome. Even in 2013, if it wasn't for his .383 babip, he would have hit under .300 The strike outs are a major concern. But Morneau figured it out last year and cut down his strike outs and won a battling title, so it's possible but it's going to take Mauer to change his batting approach. Hopefully Molitor can get through to him and make the necessary changes.
  5. It's sad when we start comparing Mauer to a player who is 40, let's hope Mauer can outperform him. Kind of sad he didn't do it last year.
  6. Mike Trout on Hunter from the article: Then there's his off-field leadership, which is impossible to measure and isn't given much weight in a game so driven by the numbers and the tangible. Not to Trout, though. "He's impacted my whole career so far," Trout said. "Coming up, he kind of took me under his wing and showed me the ropes. He was always there for me, on and off the field. Any questions I would have, he would answer. He was the right guy to go to. "He's been in the league for that long, a veteran guy, he really took it upon himself to lead me the right way, and I can't thank him enough." If the best player in baseball feels he impacted his career, I guess we can choose to believe it or not.
  7. That what a good mentor does. Trouts the one calling him a mentor, if he says it, I don't know why we don't believe him.
  8. http://m.angels.mlb.com/news/article/40262584/ Torii Hunter played a big part in helping Mike Trout bounce back from an up-and-down 40-game stint in the Majors in 2011 to become one baseball's best at age 21. Hunter helped Trout grow as a center fielder, as a hitter, as a man. Now Trout is starting to come to grips with the reality that his biggest mentor probably won't be back with the Angels next season. "I've been calling him, wishing him the best of luck," Trout said on a conference call Monday, shortly after being named the unanimous winner of the American League's Rookie of the Year Award. "It doesn't look like he's coming back. I've been just thanking him. Even if he plays for another team, I'm sure I'll still be able to call him and keep this friendship going. He's just an incredible guy."
  9. Typical Ryan move, he can't not wait out a market. At this point, nobody else probably would accept a 1 year deal, so he signed the only player who would accept the offer now. In a couple months, he would be able to get better players for less money, but it's just the way Ryan works.
  10. I think we'll need to give Mike Trout a "shiv to the liver" then. I keep hearing from him how much he missed Hunter.
  11. Why no hope for Meyers and May's? Gibson was in the same position last year and out performed 2 out of the 3 free agent signings? The Twins are never going to buy their into first place. Sometimes the best way to try and giving your own players a chance.
  12. Twins spent the 6th most money in free agency last year - how did that work out for us?
  13. If you drop someone from the 40 man roster, I believe they go through the waiver process and a team would just have to claim them and put them on their 40 man roster. If a player is pickup up in the Rule 5 draft, the team has to pay $50,000 plus keep him on the 25 man roster. So it more likely to get someone through the Rule 5 draft then through waivers. Also with Scott Diamond, the Twins didn't keep him on the roster, they had to trade a player back to the Braves so they could send him to the minors.
  14. Will the Twins still be able to remove other players from the 40 man roster so they can draft players in the Rule 5 draft?
  15. I hope Ryan has a backup plan for the outfield, he hasn't had one for the last 2 years. I'm not against signing a player, but I think we need to be more agressive in bringing up players. Keeping players like Meyers in the minors when he is a top prospect and 25 years old doesn't make a lot of sense, The goal shouldn't be to make him a all-star at AAA, we need to see what kind of player he is in the majors.
  16. I agree that we shouldn't use Aaron Hicks as an example not to bring up young players. The problem with Aaron Hicks is looking more like a Aaron HIcks problem and not a being brought up too young.
  17. I agree we don't know Mauer toughness, but it seems we have less faith in the reporting of someone who has access to the athletes than a national reporter who probably has never stepped into the Twins locker room. It looks like most people are informed by want they want to believe and considering another view is not an option.
  18. HomeSportsTwins/MLB Twins: Mauer might have to learn how to pace himself Article by: LA VELLE E. NEAL III , Star Tribune Updated: June 7, 2007 - 11:54 PM "I think some people take pain in different ways," Twins center fielder Torii Hunter said. "Some people have to play at 100 percent, and Joe may be one of those guys. I've seen it happen. Joe is a good player, and he wants to perform at 100 percent, not at 80 percent. Here's Hunter's comments from 2007.
  19. Probably like everyone else on this site, I don't have knowledge of Mauers injurys, so you have to listen to people who are closer to the situation. I would think Souhan & Reusse are closer to the clubhouse and would have better information on the culture. I'm not hearing any teammates jumping out and defending Mauer toughness. The only time I remember anyone talking about was Torii Hunter, who basically agreed with Souhan & Reusse. All that being said, Mauer just need to go out and play 150 games and drive in 100 runs. It's really up to him to show he can still produce.
  20. Big year for Mauer to show which side is right. People try to compare him to Moliter, Carew and Gwynn but all of those players were all-star and hall of fame players well into there 30's. Right now it look's like Mauer peaked around 27, when most players are reaching their prime. Hope to see Mauer play 150 games and drive in 100 runs, but if I'm making a bet, I'd go under in both categories.
  21. With the Twins biggest problem being pitching, I don't understand why they would consider trading pitching prospects for position players.
  22. I'm sure there are qualified people in the organization, but I really hope they fill the coaching staff with outside personnel. I couple holdovers would be okay, but they need to bring in some new prospective instead of just current staff and former players.
  23. I like the Moliter hiring, but I hope they get some coaches from outside the organization. If they just start promoting the AAA Manager and other coaches, then I think this is a lost opportunity. Then it truely is a country club environment.
  24. We lost 92 games and had the 4th oldest pitching staff in the AL. I hope the rebuilding isn't done. At the major league level, we have not really began to rebuild the staff. Time to try Meyers and May and get younger not older.
  25. Only if they are taking Nolasco in trade.
