  1. Yes, and to borrow a cheer from the big bag of ESPN sportscaster cliches: "Hip! Hip!... Jorge!"
  2. The maddening thing about this team is how close, how so very close, we are to flipping our losses to wins. Every loss the past two weeks turned on the Twins needing just one more hit and our pitching needing to make one less mistake. Latest case in point: When Correia got ahead of Belte 0-2 in the 1st, then couldn't get him to fish for a bender, I said firmly to the radio: "Walk him! Rios is slumping big time." And the next thing I hear is THWACK! "It's a line drive home run for Beltre." And Gardy chose to pitch to him again in the 8th with a man on third and only one out. He's the Rangers only offense and we foolishly prefer to announce our presence with authority. Meanwhile, we score four in the ninth and lose a game that easily could have gone our way. Oy.
  3. Looked it up. Thought his injury occurred in 2012. Was 2011. I'll go sit in the corner with my Grain Belt.
  4. And by the by, on this date in 2001, a certain Denny Hocking went 3-for-4, including two doubles, scored three runs and knocked in one, as the Good Guys defeated the team from Detroit, 14-5. Well played Mr. Hocking! This Denny Hocking memory is brought to you by Grain Belt Beer. Grain Belt... not a sissy-boy beer!
  5. Too lazy to look it up. Is this K. Morales's first visit to Anaheim since the Unfortunate Home Run that Cannot be Named? Also, saw "Thunderdome" again. Now everytime I see Kendrys at the plate, I hear a voice: "Two men enter. One man leaves." Don't know what to make of it.
  6. Batted .000 in 2011 in 40 PA, so must have carried over some ABs from the SF Giants in 2010, for whom he batted a respectable .256 over four seasons.
  7. Must be getting old. Couldn't think of who LNP was for the longest time. Little Nicky Punto, of course.
  8. Repeat of post on Monday Morning Madness: The second Arcia hit his grand slam, I said to myself: "The slump will begin in 3, 2, 1..." And it did. After a big hit like that, young players want that adrenaline surge every time up, and so they go fish. Now, having expected the slump, I now am confident he's enough of a gamer to correct course and start getting good swings.

  10. Some are born jinxes. Some achieve jinxness. And others have jinxness thrust upon them. What can I say? It's a gift from the baseball gods. They will punish me in due season.
  11. Yes, it's my fault the Twins won today. Thenk kew. Thenk kew very much.
  12. After this game, Sandy Koufax's plaque at Cooperstown will boast that his strikeout ratio was second only to Jared Burton's.
  13. Please try not to eat already eaten food. My dog does that.
  14. We're going to need at least six to win this.
  15. Hughsie's battling his tail off.
  16. Imagine how bad it'll look at closing time. Oops. Meant how good it'll look.
  17. And it really gets bad if you're wearing ugly shoes and Hot Brian is umping.
  18. No worries. Hughsie's got this.
  19. Touchdowns are nice, but take the sure three points, I always say.
  20. You're right. It was a different world.
  21. Danks is rattled. At least, it sure seems that way "watching" the game on the ESPN website. (I'm at work.)
