Omen: While in my home office a few minutes ago, the cardinal that makes a home in the back yard spent a minute or so on the tree branch right outside my window. Pretty sure he chirped, "The Twins will beat the Cardinals today." So I placed five Benjamins on that result. Pretty smart bird.
Haven't been to Comerica, but do have great memories of Briggs Stadium from the 1960s when my family lived in Flint. Saw Denny McClain outpitch Jim Kaat 3-2 in May 1969.
When I lived in Ohio, I enjoyed occasional games at Cleveland's old Memorial Stadium. The last time there, as I rolled through town, a little kid wound up and threw a perfect strike with a good-sized rock through my open car window that whizzed past my ear and came to rest on the passenger seat (unoccupied). I sometimes wonder whatever became of him. He looked a little like Pierzynski.
The thing I've enjoyed most so far is the team's Crazy Ivan lineups and aggressive at-bats and baserunning. Really keeps opponents off balance and works more often than not, and when it doesn't it's still better than playing not to lose.
Watching Escobar's almost-HR to right took me back to the afternoon when Jim Thome hit a walk-off dinger to complete a sweep of the Chisox. I know Jim's retired, but whatever became of his brother, Mel? He could really belt them out, too, I hear.
