I think we are very close to the same point here, just see it from opposite sides. Deduno is having success because of his repertoire of pitches. We agree there. But that is why I think he is different then Diamond. Diamond was good last summer because he had pin point accuracy. His stuff isn't that great. That is why I have more faith in Deduno being able to duplicate his success. His stuff is almost impossible to get solid contact against away from the middle of the zone. The second reason I have more hope in Deduno is that he is a fiery competitor. He takes losing personally. That's someone that will keep you in the game and fight for every out. That isn't to say Diamond isn't a tough competitor. I think he is a tough competitor, just not fiery.
  2. I don't think you remembering all of the factors. Mauer's twins were due in September. They are really quite early and I'm sure he could pay someone to take care of it and go play, but as a father myself, you stay with your first kids and make sure everything is ok. You just wouldn't be any good anyway. Your head wouldn't be in what you are doing. Also, he is losing two days worth of pay. I think it's great.
  3. Here is Ryan's quote: "The system is in good shape," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "We've got some players, and some are closer than others. The two kids in the Futures Game are certainly on a faster track. They're both very talented and highly skilled. And they're both good human beings, which is a good thing." And the link: The Minnesota Twins' farm system, now the second-best in baseball, keep getting better with the leaps of prospects Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano | twinsbaseball.com: News
  4. When you really look at it, the guys they have listed there almost all have a "potential" to be better then your list. I could see Meija, Walker, and Baxendale having a case to break the list but at the expense of maybe Goodrum, Melotakis and Harrison. And to me I am not sure I think the Meija has better upside then Goodrum, or Walker over Harrison, or Baxendale over Melotakis. The prospect list is all about potential upside to be a star.
  5. No, I think that if Burton is traded with Morneau then we might get Oliver at best, and probably less then that. But if Perkins was packaged with Morneau I think we might get 2 good prospects.
  6. Firstly, I thnk having a flair for the dramatic is just fine. They handle it on the field, you show up a pitcher, you are probably going to get plunked. The Twins as a whole aren't big fans of that but it's not like Deduno got benched for showing up the Angels after his big strike out. Secondly, He may not have been benched solely because of his slow trot. The coach didn't take him out of the game, he played the rest of it at 3B. It is very possible that he broke some other team rule. My supposition is that the coach tried to talk to him about it after the game, saying they don't need to get in a brawl because of the way he acted and told him that he was sitting him the next game so he wouldn't get beamed and Sano, like any 20 year old kid probably said something smart response, probably behind the coaches back, causing him to be sat for a few games. Ryan went out of his way in the article today to say how the two young stars in the minors were not just talented young men but great human beings. It is far more likely that Sano said something immature that got him to ride the pine then just the bat toss. He did that in Fort Myers and their was no ill will. Not saying there is a in of truth to this, but hey, no source from the Twins says it was the bat toss, it could be other things.
  7. I agree that we don't need another good catcher but we were very high on Reese (passed on him for a superior pitcher and he was gone later) and then we could trade the others when the start to develop. Catchers are always worth a premium and the Pirates have them in bunches. I would love to get Glasnow, I think he will be something really nice as he fills in his frame.
  8. I think they are ready to eat his salary. They already have it budgeted to pay him. And honestly. I wouldn't doubt if the Twins signed him as a free agent over the winter. Its obvious that Parm can't handle it and until Sano is ready to take over third we don't need to transition Plouffe there.
  9. They traded him because his contract was up and they didn't want to pay him the money. Perkins is under contract cheap for 3 years. Something a team like the Pirates would value a lot. The went with Grilli becasue he was cheap. For them, Morny is a complete rental with RBI potential and great defense. Perkins is the real piece of the trade. And I don't think they will over value him, but because their farm system is stacked, their 10th-30th best prospect is a much better prospect then we would get elsewhere, obvious exceptions to the Cardnals, Red Sox, and Astros. So we might get two prospects from them instead of three. And since they can't trade McGuire I would say Tyler Glasnow and Wyatt Mathisen would be a good paring.
  10. I can see that. I think we should have a strong presence in the minors, doesn't have to be managers but other coaches. I was thinking the Manager at the ML level, and only if as qualified as what is available, because it would help with free agent signings and international signings to have that presence. Pena coached a world baseball classic team, he is a minor hero. I do not agree that Gardy is a good manager. He is terrible at game decisions and I would love to see him out.
  11. He seemed to do quite well with the Dominican team
  12. Absolutely, I'ld be ok with Tony Pena
  13. I completely agree. Me might be able to package Perkins with Morny to get Reese McGuire and a MLB ready pitcher, like Andrew Oliver

So you're saying Deduno is going to need elbow surgery that will weaken the muscles that allow one to control their pitches? You're negativity isn't unwarranted, we have been done this road of hope before, but I believe this one is different.

Last year Deduno pitched to the corners and so his pitches either went from their into the middle of the strike zone or dove away from it. That lead to a lot more strike outs but also getting hit a lot harder and more walks. This year he is throwing at the middle and the ball is diving to either corner. The result is more strikes, less walks, less strike outs and a lot less hard hit balls. His contact rate is high, because they hit weak ground balls. I was sold on Deduno early. He has the stuff, he has the heart, give me those two things and you will have a competitive game each time out.
  16. There are a meriod of reasons someone can start hitting better. That was the first time Plouffe got an extended shot at the position. The Twins lineup was starting to hit well, including, Mauer, Willingham, Morneau, Domit, they were all hitting well so by the time it got down to Plouffe he is going get some fat pitches.
  17. Is that kind of like saying "no offense" after an offensive statement means it isn't offensive anymore?
  18. I agree, it is more likely that Braun wouldn't let his childhood best friend know that he was cheating, and that is why he is better then Plouffe. Plouffe has been a streaky hitter his whole career. Last year the streak lasted a longer time then most.
  19. Like I said, I think May is the best option we have. He is on the 40-man roster already and has major league stuff. He is just inconsistent. I would rather have inconsistent but good stuff than a steady super nasty high schooler. With that being said, Mark Burhle (can't spell that name ) is a pro so maybe it is worth a shot for Albers. You always need those players pushing the edge.
  20. I think Florimon is developing into a fine shortstop. You don't need to hit there if you can hit other places. I think if we traded Perk we would bring up Tonkin and give him the job till he looses it. I would like to see a AAA pitcher, mediocre to them but better then most we have, a A-AA SP with huge upside and A-AA infielder with the same.
  21. Colabello needs to learn that in MLB parks it's a little tougher to hit it out. In Rochester the F-9 he just had would have been a HR
  22. Um... that would be the Portland, Maine Sea Dogs
  23. Maybe for all of it but Florimon, consistent #9
  24. I thought that is what Escobar's role would be, is he the one whining about playing time?
  25. I told my 2 year old last night that he needs to start working his game so that he can get one of the two.
