  1. I just aged like 5 years that inning.
  2. Meanwhile, pelfrey slows the game to a crawl. OF of the future looks solid though.
  3. Mostly done i think. I guess some people were like, "look, the Beatles!"
  4. Just saw it! Awesome. Kitty corner from Sneaky Petes and some place called Augies that i wouldn't know anything about...
  5. Hmmm... Hard for me to say that any of those were horrible signings or non-trades. Revisionist history might say we held on to some of them too long. I've been on the record as saying our lack of aggressive signings and over-reliance on youth hurt us more than anything. We didn't have enough depth to trade and were more or less forced to keep guys past their peak value. Is Santana yet another one of those? Time will tell I guess... but if Esco ends up being average or above for the next couple years, and Santana ends up being anything less than Esco, it would appear we missed an opportunity to flip him for value after or during last season. Santana has better defensive tools, but I think it's a stretch to say that he has better hit tools than Esco whose hit tools may need re-evaluation. I don't think anyone is saying Ryan was wrong for wanting to move Santana back to short and give his upside a shot. I think we're frustrated that a single player's development trumped the immediate need of the team when Santana projects as a likely stop-gap anyhow.
  6. Wow, how does Duffy's curveball have its own thread, but May's hook doesn't? That was filthy!
  7. Well that was a solid frame!
  8. Chris Herman is a backup catcher. Is he ideal? No. But I don't really see him as a huge problem or drop from Zuke. Buxton failing to show up last night and take competitive at bats cost his team far FAR more than Herman could ever cost us in one at bat at the end of the game. Buxton flailed so ineffectively, it literally felt like I was watching a right handed Nishioka. It's one thing to K 3 times in a game while battling to 3-2 counts as Sano has done. It's quite another to whiff at 92 mph fastballs down the middle for 4 straight at bats. Once or twice did he get wood on a ball and flair it to the foul ground? Put him up there same side against a guy who throws 97? Come on. Herman has 2 HR this year. Buxton has 0 in his career and has never even come close. It's a 1 run game, you're down to your last out. Buxton never tried to bunt, never altered his approach, never choked up, and basically took his at bats like he was asleep. He's a pro. He needs to compete every night. I saw him looking at his thumb with Hunter in the dug out. If he's hurt, tell the trainer. If he's playing and he can't swing, bunt. If he's just not quick enough to get to a 92 mph heater from a lefty, then we're seriously boned. Don't make Molitor or Herman the scapegoat for a disappointing loss. Herman gave us a better chance of winning last night, albeit slight. Basically like getting 2 extra powerball numbers.
  9. Was Buxton partying last night or something? Please show up for the rest of the game.
  10. If anything, hitting that catwalk like that should be worth double (2 HR), not A double.
  11. Wow... domes are dumb...
  12. Ryan publicly backed Gardy last year, then asked for Santana to be moved permanently to short. Gardy publicly stated Santana in CF and Esco at SS gave them the best chance to win (he finally gave in). Gardy was then fired. You may not think there was a connection there, but I do, and I think Molitor was well aware. Moli's credit, he probably did and said what he had to in order to get the manager position, and got out of it without completely costing the team. Good finesse.
  13. Saving that one stinking game for October.
  14. Boyer was waaay overused earlier this season (I get there is a joke or 2 there). Maybe he can be fresh and useful again down the stretch after 2 weeks off.
  15. Yeah, i'm just hoping they'll show Kate Upton's response if Verlander can finish this thing off. I'm thinking she does a lot of leaping for joy.
  16. MLB Channel is carrying Verlander's no no by the way.
  17. Is the book out on Duffy? If it's low, let it go?
  18. I recall Duffey's stuff not playing nearly as well 2nd and third time through
  19. Robinson hasn't been DFA'd yet?
  20. Not since Rookie of the Year has a pitcher retired 27 batters all on strike outs...
  21. Dear goodness, are there no accountants on Twins Daily who can resolve this issue once and for all? Or are baseball blogs too nerdy even for number crunchers... Excuse me, I have to reexamine my life path...
  22. Yeah, it's tough. I'm going off the little I've seen. The scouting reports aren't universally bad about his defense. And the bar isn't particularly high for offensive production at short. Though Esco has been hitting like a starting MLB SS lately. I do like the potentially high ceiling though. His history at the plate shows him to be a more complete hitter than Santana. Reviews of Santana's defense were similarly mixed. But many of the negatives I've heard re: Polanco have been a) poor judgment (comes with experience) and avg. arm (what's wrong with avg?). His frame and approach at the plate lead me to believe that he might add some amount of power to his game over the next few years. Perhaps I should have stated, I'm not sure why the people who were excited about him earlier this year are no longer excited about him. Seems like he's lost some support among Twins Daily posters at least... Maybe his supporters are just resigned to the fact that Esco is playing well enough and Santana is no longer submarining the middle infield anymore, and it's not that big a deal anymore...
  23. Well that's sort of why I stated that I don't know why people are not more excited. The most common knocks I hear are errors (throwing to Kennys Vargas) and arm strength. I saw enough arm strength when he was up that I'm not too concerned. I guess I don't know why he's looked at as such an afterthought when he's been pretty darn successful everywhere he's gone including the bigs.
  24. Escobar's been playing great. Big hits, steady d. But for the life of me, i can't see why people aren't more excited about Polanco. Having watched him go deep in the hole, fire a laser to Mauer, then get charged with an error because Mauer doesn't know how to stretch, i have no concerns about his arm strength. He makes a lot of errors apparently, so do a lot of short stops. To me, it didn't look like anything a better fielding 3 couldn't fix. I'm frankly surprised he hasn't been given the starting spot.
  25. If dazzle took the time to explain siera in the first inning he'd finish 5 runs later in the 4th inning and he'd run out of time to tell us how many coors lights he was planning on drinking on his birthday. So not that different... except i wouldn't be thirsty. ..
