  1. Would you rather they pocket it? They're only up to ~85MM. It's not as if they're going to earmark the remainder for 2015.
  2. I don't see how this works out to be a good thing for the smaller teams. With the negotiating threshold capped at that number, a figure any MLB team could meet, it basically makes every elite Japanese player a free agent. How many of these guys pick the Twins, or say, the Reds, or the Royals, over the Yankees or Dodgers when they can have their pick of any team that posted the 20MM? My guess is, not many.
  3. The rest of these numbers look about right, but I'd say you're ~10MM off the total on Garza. I would be shocked... SHOCKED! if the Twins were seriously considering paying him (not that I'd be upset about it if they did.)
  4. Would still take his detached arm if it was flopping around out there in the fourth round.
  5. Thanks. I tried that once, but wasn't clicking the little radio button for delete post. Got it now.
  6. Qualifying offers are the same for all FAs, and are set by the league and the players association on a year to year basis. This year it's set at 14.1 MM.
  7. Not that I expect the Twins to engage in a bidding war for Lincecum, but Dan Haren has been a comparable pitcher over the last three seasons. Unlike Lincecum, Haren likely won't cost a draft pick and actually seems like a realistic target, moneywise. From Fangraphs today: Dan Haren, Tim Lincecum, and Perception Gaps | FanGraphs Baseball Unfortunately, the Twins were on his no-trade list as recently as 2010 when he was with Arizona, so he may have a preference to pitch elsewhere.
  8. Tanaka is already being perceived as the best available FA pitcher this off season. Somebody is going to outspend the Twins.
  9. Sickels also noted in the comments that Thorpe has potential to be a top pitching prospect in all of baseball in 12 months, based on the way he's pitched in the GCL so far.

  11. Yeah, nice with the links to the player cards, right?

  13. He's looking at a one year "make good" type contract at this point, and I would offer something in the 6-7MM range at most. I'd be shocked if any other team would be willing to go more than that, and the Twins shouldn't either. He still has value, but for a 32 year old 1B with a .750 OPS and injury concerns, I'd throw that money at some pitching if he wants more.
  14. Steve Adams agrees with Olney... from his mlbtraderumors chat today: Personally, I agree the Twins have a bigger need for pitching prospects at this point, but I'd be ecstatic if they could get Castellanos for Perkins. This looks even better if you don't think Sano sticks at third.
  15. Stumbled across this, from Fangraphs. Trade Candidate Leaderboards: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com leaderboards for players from teams that will be likely sellers. Glen comes in at the top of the reliever pile based on a number of different metrics, including xFIP and k/9, and he's second in WAR, behind an old friend.
