  1. Wow, that's one of the best double plays I've ever seen.
  2. Plouffe...man on base...go-ahead run...could it be? Edit- Well, no, but jeez he hit the absolute snot out of that ball. Tough luck.
  3. Agreed- Gardy's giving him a lot of chances to show that he's pretty far from ML-ready, I'm afraid. Hopefully something clicks soon.
  4. A masterful Reverse Jinx, in a crucial situation! Nicely done, sir.
  5. I think TD should advertise on MLB.com. These cell phone commercials are driving me insane. The arty one with David Bowie (or a copy) crooning is the worst. Very nice to see the Plouffester come through there.
  6. Doumit could strike out 8 times tonight if this game goes to extras.
  7. Finally, in July of 2035, the young Prince George of Great Britain meets the Mauer Twins, fresh from their recent hunting trip.
  8. Plouffe and Morneau up with a RISP. Please, please, please...
  9. Florimon is making me forget about Lenny Faedo.
  10. Don't cry, sweetie. See? The hand just wants to pet you!
  11. You know, Diamond's throwing a heck of a game here, against a pretty hot team and a sizzling pitcher. Props.
  12. Aug 26, 1981. They used 13 field players. The highest BA was .263 (John Castino). The highest OPS was .705 (Herbie). Your shortstop was Lenny Faedo, .167/.333. Your DH was Chuck Baker, .164/.364. Three Twins batting over .250 (out of 13). Two Twins with an OPS over .640 (Herbie and Danny Goodwin).
  13. OK, here you go, from September 20, 1981. Avg and OPS Hosken Powell, .238/.625 Rob Wilfong .245/.646 Mickey Hatcher, .263/.657 Glenn Adams, .204/.545 That's your DH, with an OPS of .545 Tim Corcoran, .158/.443 That's your power-hitting first baseman Dave Engle, .240/.663 Gary Gaetti, .333/1.667 But to be fair, it was his first game and he went 1 for 3 w/ a HR Sal Butera, .240/.618 Ron Washington, .205/.528
  14. I think there's water in the gas line.
  15. Dang, we're down 1-0. I was hoping we kept them scoreless- then we go to penalty kicks, and at that point anything can happen. Now we're in trouble.
  16. I remember a few, featuring guys like Pete Mackanin and Rick Sofield, but not for a long time. This is pretty brutal. Hernandez gets some credit, but most pitchers would be feasting on this.
  17. Hey, Butera didn't do worse than the others!
  18. Unfortunately, Chapter 5 had already hammered home the part about using 3 outfielders, so that took precedence.
  19. I thought Northern Tip was in honor of the weird haircut that Baffin had?
  20. This Chris Hermann guy has his moments, doesn't he?
  21. You know, I appreciate what Ryan Doumit did last year, and he works hard now- he's a pro. But it's time to let Arcia and others have his at-bats. I hoped he would have a good year and pull up the young guys with his performance, but it just ain't happening.
  22. Joe is surrendering $125,000 per day after Day 3 to remain on paternity leave. Paying for college will cost about 3 days each, even given the rapid increase in the cost of higher education.
  23. Your post said "He's not going to play for a few games." It didn't say he was suspended.
  24. Carew- he's worked with Twins players in spring training for years, but doesn't want any regular season gig. The Angels broadcasters the other night said that he still did some work for the Twins, and didn't mention any relationship with the Angels at this point. I believe Tony Oliva is also there, but of course he's quite a few ballplayer-generations removed from the current guys. And spring training is nothing like the regular season, obviously. Old boys' club- that got shook up a bit last year. And Bobby Cuellar in on the staff now, though of course he's in the bullpen during games. Still, better than previous years. Sano rivaling Ortiz' home run trots- I don't see that as a good thing, partly because Ortiz has an incredible track record to back him up, and also because both of Sano's legs still actually function. I worry a little bit about the attitude, but I'm more concerned that he gets beaned and it wrecks his career and future health prospects. Saying that part of the game is "stupid" doesn't make it any less part of the game.
