  1. I am oversimplifying a little bit, but it kind of reminds me how the owners treated the players in the big leagues way back in the day. People like Comisky did not exactly overpay his players while he raked in the cash.
  2. DL decision to come in 12 days.
  3. That does not sound like a movie that could be shown on TBS.
  4. Of course that would require actual jokes...
  5. I would have thought they would have tried to get him this October during our World Series run.
  6. 1987, 1991, and 2014 World Champs! I think hovering around .500 is not out the range of possibility. It is too bad Sano had the TJ, or we could be talking about how he is raking and the bump we will get when he comes up in the second half of the year.
  7. I think he has gotten a little better with that - but that has driven me crazy when I have turned the game on after it has started-- commercial breaks have come and gone -- innings have ended and started and no score given... I have driven all the way home without any idea of what the score is.
  8. There is potential for the next Twins commercial in here somewhere.
  9. Has anyone noticed if the quality of the posts suffer the longer the thread goes on -- or do they retain the high standard one has come to expect from a game thread?
  10. Since in the timeline this happened after the newer movies, I like to think Jar Jar was actually on board when this happened, but we just never saw it.
  11. It has been awhile since I have seen Clint Eastwood, Tony Dow, and Bugs Bunny referenced together.
  12. I probably fall into the camp of Mauer loyalist (or Mauerians as we are called in the inside circle at our secret monthly meetings at O'Gara's), and I think this is a perfectly valid statement and would not browbeat anyone for theorizing it. He was still experiencing symptons in November for a hit he took in August. Combine that with watching how it effected Justin and to a lesser degree Span (did he ever completley bounce back?), I think it has to at least be considered. It might be that even if he is not experiening overt syptoms, it has effected his reflexes enough to alter his game for being elete to being mediocre. If that is the case, hopefully things will gradually return to normal and better days ahead. Best case scenario, it is just a regular slump and not related to any brain issues. Nice article - I wish Justin the best and hope he gets a few years of good playing. He was really robbed of some of his prime baseball years. The part about him still doing a batting practice routine he did with Mauer, but now he stops for someone not there was a little bittersweet.
  13. Baseball announcers who have difficulty going three plus hours trying to find things to say fill the time really should just come to this board to find good examples of statements with weight and substantive meaning and some deep insight.
  14. The last time he showed emotion it disturbed his teammates so much they told him not to do that again.
  15. I don't know - it is possible we will only be up by 2 going into the 9th tomorrow.
  16. His own helmet attacked him when he successfully stole third and cut his eye lid.
  17. I am pretty sure I would have been ok going my entire life witout this image in my head.
  18. Stark gets up every morning saying "I wish I was Parker H."
  19. Joe is obviously an adult and bears responsibility for how he deals with the media and how he is perceived, but the Twins PR department has not exactly helped him over the years. I think I read somewhere that he had never heard about bilateral leg weakness until he read the release. While he is never going to be an open book, I do think he learned some lessons from 2011 and is a little more forthcoming and at the very least does not hide from the media. I do think he will work it out eventually (unless his reflexes etc. were permanently altered by a foul tip last August) but making changes against 95 mph pitches takes a number of at bats and might take longer than we would like.
  20. I think he will be able to adapt in time, but is not going to happen overnight. He is over thirty and has been hitting the same way for years -- how he hits is going to be pretty hardwired into him. Its not like he can just flip a switch and change his technque, esp. when you have to react in a split second when facing MLB pitching. Adjustments take time in baseball, even for the good hitters. I also think he has had some bad luck, injury issues, adjusting to a new position etc. that have come into play. It does not take much to throw off one's baseball game. I think things will eventually swing the other way.
  21. "LITTLE" diversions? Like Godzilla is a "little" pest?
  22. I just discovered that when you refresh the page there is a "view first unread" button. The fact that this might be the highlight of my day might not be a good reflection on my life... Omelet with bacon, but I do like a good egg salad sandwich (also with bacon and maybe some cheese and tomato).
  23. I am glad this version of Lucy looks like she is crabbing about something. I remember when they released the Lucy statues ten years ago or so, they had her smiling sweetly. Did that artist even know Lucy? From her expression in this version, you can kind of imagine her watching some great defense by our infielder-outfield or seeing Burton come out from the bullpen in late April or early May.
  24. It is Joe Mauer -- team prankster and wild and crazy guy. Is there even any doubt that he is just having fun with us?
  25. Reading between the lines, it is pretty apparent that Yu saw the Twins line-up and all of a sudden had a "stiff neck" which will all of a sudden be better when he knows he does not have to face our murderer's row. I am going to pretend I never saw the second sentence of this post.
