  1. You realize I could make a list just as long with a bunch of guys who hit a ton of HR's and dont have rings as well?
  2. I'm not sure how you got that out of my post. Thats not what I said at all. I said that even if only SOME of the negatives go wrong (which some are going to, its simple probability), that could be enough to make it just as bad as last year. I'm not saying they will go negative in every case.
  3. Its just as unrealistic to think that none of the possible negatives will go wrong, which this post seems to suggest. And again, which prospects are going to eat innings? If you think that, you are counting way too much on Gibson. May and Meyer are not ready. If they were they would have been in the competition for the 4th and 5th spots. One of them might come up in Sept, but by then there are not many innings left to eat.
  4. When in the hell did I ever say he had 4.5 for a season? 4.4 is what his career WAR is on bbr, that is what i was referring to. And who ever said he was exceptional? The guy was drafted in the late rounds, I'm talking about finding value there, not all stars. Do you think that any compliment paid to another organization is automatically meant to be an insult to the Twins?
  5. Again, I could be wrong on this, it was a while ago, but didnt they get that control problem fixed before the injury? Like I said, I could be remembering it wrong, but if they did, that would make it hard to blame the control problems on the injury, if he was able to correct them before it was even discovered.
  6. Wasnt it from getting hit by a pitch?
  7. I dont think peoples financial IQ has anything to do with it. Even if someone has managed their money well, and has enough saved up to retire on already, it doesnt change the fact one bit that they should get what they were promised when they were hired. Its the principle of it.
  8. I'm not really sure if this post is serious or joking around? I'm guessing if you took away the worst couple of outings for any pitcher it would make their numbers look substantially better. In fact, I'm guessing if you took away the worst couple of outings for '11 Worley, then he would again be better than the '12 Worley with the couple of bad outings taken out. Either way you look it at, I just dont know WHAT to expect from Worley. I think the available data is too small, and filled with too many variables (that I mentioned previously). And I dont mean that in a negative light. He could just as easily be better, worse or the same. Just tough to get a read on.
  9. I'm not sure what you mean by finally taking notice? They signed him as a FA 15 months ago, then brought him back this year when all 29 other teams passed on him, so they must have seen SOMETHING in him to begin with.
  10. What is your deal man? Nobody is claiming it has anything to do with putting on a Twins uniform, jeez. There is a well documented NL to AL regression, do you dispute that?
  11. Its not really that I think every collection of independent events will turn out negative, its just that I dont see nearly enough talent in this group to overcome even just some of them going negative. If worse case scenario were to hit (meaning all of them turning negative), I think this rotation could be historically bad. Like someone else said, its not just pitchers coming from the NL, 2 of them are coming off significant surgeries, so they carry even more risk than just the standard NL to AL switch. I'm not convinced that Pelfrey is anywhere near ready to pitch, I mean what is he throwing right now, mid to high 80's? With his lack of movement, he needs his typical low to mid 90's just to be the serviceable pitcher that he was before the surgery. I hope they dont rush him out there knowing he's not ready, because IMO it could get ugly. I also think its hard to know what you are going to get from Worley. He was good his rookie year, pretty bad last year. So many variables though: smallish sample size, his first year looks fairly lucky, last year looks fairly unlucky, he was pitching through injury, its just so hard to tell what to expect from him. I think they are trying to be optimistic about Gibson, but the whispers I am hearing are that internally they are trying not to count on anything from him this year. To me there are just so many ? marks, and IMO not even the majority of them need to go negative to be pretty bad, because i'm just not seeing much talent there to begin with. But, this is why they dont play the games on paper, right! Only time will tell.
  12. The one thing to keep an eye on though will be if he can stay healthy. The wrist injury was flukish, and it is FAR too early to call him injury prone, hopefully its just been a small sample size of bad luck, but still something to watch, IMO.
  13. Every staff is going to have injuries at some point. So the Twins, in a way, actually are counting on one or both of those guys.
  14. I dont think its overly pessimistic to think that all 3 of those guys, being NL pitchers, could struggle significantly in the AL. In fact, with few exceptions, its generally the norm.
  15. Yeah, like I said before, it only makes sense if he misstated what he meant, and meant something different than how its exactly written. If not, then I agree, it doesnt make any sense in the context its written. The way it makes sense to me is if he meant something like: "I like Worley, though I think he's due for some regression in the AL, and if the Twins are counting on him to be their best pitcher, they are in trouble."
  16. Dallas Braden was a good find. The fact he had injuries doesnt change that. To find 4.5 WAR from that round is good value, even if he never plays again. Griffin and Straily have been successful so far, so until they show otherwise, I'll put them in the good value category. If they prove to be flukes, I'll move them out of that category at that time. We can only go with the information we have now, we cant attempt to predict the future.
  17. I'm not sure where you are going with this? Are you suggesting that Blackburn wasnt terrible in '10 and '11, or are you suggesting that he was pitching with elbow pain for 3 full years?
  18. As far as i'm aware, the control issues were well before the injury, and was not related to it. If you have a link suggesting otherwise I would be happy to be wrong (because I actually like the Wimmers pick and hope we get some value from him), but it would be the first I have seen of it.
  19. Boy, I disagree. I'm worried the starting pitching could be just as bad, if not worse this year. Thinking we are going to get help from the minor leagues is placing a ton of faith in Gibson, because I dont see May or Meyer coming up until Sept. at the earliest. And while I think Diamond will still be a serviceable starter, I see a fairly significant regression from him this year.
  20. Saying one guy is the best starter isnt really a "label". Unless a team manages to literally clone a pitcher, and have 5 of him in the rotation, you are always going to have a best pitcher, 2nd best pitcher, 3rd best pitcher, etc., even if you/they choose not to use those terms.
  21. It depends on what he's telling ownership. If he's telling ownership, "we will compete now and rebuild", then yeah he might be in trouble. If he's telling ownership, "we are punting this year, saving you a ton of money, and will compete in 2015", then I dont see how he could be in trouble.
  22. That just sounds like semantics to me. If you replace the word 'ace' with 'best starter', it doesnt really change anything except the words.
  23. Well everyone in professional baseball has some kind of actual skills. They wouldnt get paid to play baseball if they didnt. There is nothing in his AA numbers last year that impresses me, given his age and position, thats all i'm saying. I have already said that its not a novelty if they bring him north for the right reasons. My original "novelty" statement was in regards to a couple of posters who said it would be a feel good story if he were brought north. After that it kind of went of the rails a bit, and I think some people have been led to believe that I feel bringing him north for any reason is a "novelty", which is not the case.
  24. I dont think he was talking about you. I'm pretty sure he was referring to the 2nd comment in this thread following the article (yours was the first), which he states in his post.
