  1. And Grossman will almost certainly be on the Opening Day roster, for those wondering. No options left vs. Granite's option. Twins already excellent defensively in the OF. Grossman's an OBP machine vs LHP. He'll make it. Granite will be in Rochester. Fair to wonder if he'll finish 2018 on the Twins, however. Time will tell.
  2. Kinda nice to see the Twins do what many of said they'd do all along. When it's time to win, spend some cash. Caveat - there's still plenty of $$ in the pockets. Doesn't need to stop.
  3. I love this site. Thank you for writing about the things that presumably keep you up at night. I would think we, as a community, would want to help. I occasionally comment but mostly just read. When the opportunity came out a couple years ago to start game threads, I jumped on the opportunity. I love to write, and I love baseball. The threads gave me the chance to combine those and do something that was at least somewhat meaningful. I've maybe written 6 thread starters and have loved the opportunity to write them. It's not about the money to me, personally. I'd write stuff for free. Time is certainly a concern, with a demanding job and a family, but I could make time. Part of it, I guess, is that I feel to some extent that I should be asked. I know anyone can post a blog....but it never felt like I should unless TD's power players felt I should. That's probably weird - but it's my thought process. One idea is to perhaps get a roster of part-time contributors signed on to contribute, and maybe they can select general idea categories to 'own'. And then, build a schedule. Maybe it's weekly, twice a month, whatever. But if it's your day to create content, then you are accountable to putting something out there. Anyway, I have faith that TD will continue/begin to thrive. Because it's excellent analysis and discussion. Best of luck to you all.
  4. Small moves become additive. These prospects are actual people, but in some ways, we're better off viewing them purely as assets. The Falvey/Levine team have done a great job upping the assets in the bank. They can choose to have them mature or use them to buy talent elsewhere. They clearly get it. I am over the moon with their first year. Bring on year 2.
  5. This would actually be a great idea....if Ohtani showed any care whatsoever to the size of the bonus he can get. Damn selfless kid......
  6. Yes! This is exactly why this argument is completely fruitless. The performance the team received from their replacements was possibly better than what they would have gotten otherwise. Hard to know.
  7. I think Luke Weaver is already better than Erv, so I'm not sure I get this trade proposal.
  8. JDL isn't necessarily a bust, but he will be a bullpen guy. 100% guaranteed.
  9. I don't think this is true. The human element actually exists, and if a team is within sniffing distance of a playoff spot, throwing the locker room a bone of a pitcher that is halfway decent for a lottery ticket that MAYBE you can cash in in 5 years is probably a good thing to do. I know as enlightened fans we can sit back and say selling was always the right thing to do, but as GM and Chief Baseball Officer, Falvey and Levine have other concerns they need to keep in mind. I'm fairly confident in saying they were not fooled; I think they are pretty savvy and understand their 2017 team well. Rather, they were taking a small step to add a piece to help the team JUSTINCASE, but also a piece they could resell for a similar piece (or better, if they take on salary).
  10. A million times this. He's been extremely fun to follow. Has hit at every level. It's fun to see guys picked in later rounds (not super late, but 9th isn't that early) work hard and move up the rankings. Would be fun to see him debut in Minneapolis sometime in 2018. We'll see.
  11. Exactly. With MLB pitchers, you first need to give them a reason not to simply throw you fastballs. Once you do that, you need to give them a reason to throw you strikes. Buxton hasn't yet done that but he's getting close. Love the recent approach change. It seems like it's starting to click for him. As Ashbury said, once they see the need to throw you strikes, that's when we can start to see this develop.
  12. I was there in person today. It was kind of humorous to be a fan, TBH. Cheer for a hit by the Twins? Or not cheer because it was off our pitcher? Stadium was half full and it was pretty fun. I spoke with a few of the Colombian fans. They had a rather small contingent but it was vocal and playful. Fun environment!
  13. Sweet! Just got the PDF and uploaded to Google Drive. Now I can read it at my desk at work, in front of the TV at night, or while I sit on any toilet from which I can connect to wi-fi. Perfect.
  14. Like the 1st post, Sheeran! I don't think the Cardinals are going to look to move on from Wong (they signed him through 2020 last spring) but who knows? I have seen lots of rumors involving Weaver or Wacha for other guys. Not sure either makes a ton of sense for the Twins but perhaps there could be something there. Worth watching.
  15. Yeah, thanks for this reminder. I would guess a couple trades could happen before Rule 5, so if you don't have guys you can DFA you're kinda screwed.
  16. I echo the above commenters that I see little value in hanging on to Danny Santana, but they have protected the guys who matter most. Today is a victory, smart moves.
  17. Really happy with this move, and I wish TP the best with his new team, whoever that is.
  18. The Radiohead model! Love it - I will probably pay you more than you would have charged.
  19. It feels like this thread has gotten a little off topic, but whatever. The original article talked about a hierarchical shakeup, which is interesting indeed. The ongoing conversation about replacing St. Peter, Ryan etc has also been interesting. Like Riverbrian, I was (too?) patient with Ryan. I think he's likely a very good talent evaluator. His roster formulation and decision-making leaves quite a bit to be desired. But it is clear that the organization needs fresh leadership, and that isn't going to happen with an internal promotion to replace Ryan. For all this, bringing in a heavy hitter to lead all may be the best solution, and if that means St. Peter loses his job too, then that is a necessary consequence. I personally am more positive about his contributions than others (while we all admit we don't know the day to day of his performance) but sometimes good people lose jobs to circumstances. If it's for the greater good of this organization, than so be it.
  20. I guess my response would be that we have nowhere near the information needed to make that sort of jump (that it's a bad deal). If it is truly that bad I sure hope we have someone with journalistic skills do an investigation. I read pretty much every thread on here, and I have never seen anyone make the argument that we can't spend one dime more on payroll than we currently are because of our TV deal. The Twins certainly can spend more money on payroll than they are right now. And I think they probably will as the potential contending core advance to their collective prime. However, I think it's safe to say that our budget likely will never have the top-end limit that some larger markets will due to TV deals that are more lucrative. That's just reality, I suppose. And, I don't think that makes me a Pohlad Pocket Protector (whatever the heck that is) to say that.
  21. Thanks for sharing this - interesting read. There seems to be a lot of information missing from this though. I don't know what a Pohlad Pocket Protector is so I can't really comment on that. I mean, I know it's a Common Man thing, but I've never really encountered anyone who really fits his bit.
  22. God this is so sensical -- I'm crying from joy. Thank you, Riverbrian.
  23. I have not heard it is under market value; I have heard that the Twins got less because cable penetration in this market is so low.
