Forgot they have Plutko in St. Paul. If Varland stinks and they don't want to rush Matthews, maybe that is the move. -
What is the deal with waiver wire pick ups? The Guards scooped up a bunch of guys last summer, Giolito, etc.. Not ideal but a serviceable starter or two could shake free. Isn't there a deadline for when you have to add them in order to have the player post season eligible?

Yeah, I wouldn't consider him as 'missing' starter - was never really there to begin with.

At this point, all things considered, might as well sign Rich Hill. If the Twins get to October, you can use him as a piggyback for one of the young guys. He might able to piece together a few good innings here or there.
