  1. I wonder if Granite wouldn't be better served by getting regular playing time in AAA early in the season. LaMarre could handle the 4th outfielder role. I'd also rather have two extra infielders the way this team is shaping up. Adrianza could serve as an extra outfielder if you suddenly needed one; you're not going to throw an outfielder (other than Rosario, perhaps) into the middle infield if there's an in-game injury.
  2. Adrianza is good defensively, and has shown more pop in his bat lately. Uh-oh....
  3. There's really no one left with the Twins for him to be pissed at.
  4. You have got to be happy with Gibson as a 4 or 5 starter, rather than hoping he can be a 2 or 3!
  5. This has become a very solid staff. The top 5 starters might not be lights out individually, but you’ve got quality pitchers 1 - 5, especially when Santana rounds back into form, and intriguing options behind them. The bullpen also has a good mix now to pick and choose from; maybe now they’ll be more smoke and fewer mirrors!
  6. One difference is that Kiriloff's baseball IQ is cited (as is the case for several Twins prospects). Arcia's baseball IQ seemed to extend no further than knowing to grip the bat by the skinny end. Skills are important, of course, but understanding the game and knowing the right play is better than just playing. It could shorten the experience curve needed to move up.
  7. Is there no longer any thought being given to trading for Chris Archer? Seems the ideal time to plug him in for Santana and then have an even stronger rota when Ervin comes back. The cost will be high, but do any of the Twins pitching prospects project to be better than Archer when they eventually get to the majors?
  8. Agreed. Nobody has traded for Archer or Cole yet, either. There's still time (and room on the roster) for things to happen.
  9. Archer will be expensive in terms of prospects, but he's got four years left on his contract; $6.5 mill next year and options for just $9 million and $11 million in 2020 and 21. That's almost cheap in terms of salary; over 4 years you spend about half of what you would for two years of Darvish.
  10. Assets is right. The previous regime was thought to be too unwilling to trade a prospect or two, perhaps because they had so few of them. Now that several of those one-time prospects are on the field, and the pipeline is refilling, the team has some assets that can be packaged not to plug a hole, but make a difference. What if you were to put a couple of those together to get, say, an Evan Longoria from the salary dumping Rays to play 3rd base, strengthen the lineup and provide some veteran moxie? Let Sano DH and then let him show you he's willing to do what it takes to be an on the field player.
  11. Why? So they can really compete in 2024? B.S. The Twins had the top-ranked farm system a couple years back; these guys are here now and learning their craft and seeing first-hand what it is going to take to compete. The offense has been productive in spurts (look at the number of 5-run innings), only to be undone by the pitching staff giving up 6-run innings. You want to reboot just as Kepler and others are getting the experience to hit in pressure situations? By all means, clear out the never-gonnas from the bullpen and rotation (and the FO appears to be doing just that, bit by bit) but let the young guys get the feeling of being in it, even it its at .500 and in struggling division. This will pay off in the next couple of seasons, rather than being in constant rinse and repeat mode.
  12. I haven't seen Twins opponents so frustrated at the plate since Francisco "F-bomb" Liriano was dealing that slider, pre-TJ.
  13. Don't overlook Greg Luzinski (as if you could). He was over 6' and 250+, playing left field. Managed to do it for 10 years in Philly. More than 300 career home runs and 1100+ RBi.
