  1. Owners need to clean house pretty much GM on down. Fresh blood fresh ideas all the way through because this organization is stuck in a major rut. Strange times to live in when the Wolves appear astronomically better run.
  2. They cant put May there, because he is basically the entire bullpen and needed available when the **** is going down not just the 9th. I think it will be Chargois or Meyer by the end of the year but its going to get interesting before they hand one of them the job.
  3. I think Meyer is going to end up being the next closer. Berrios and Duffey are pretty easily ahead of him in the starter pecking order and the team is still saddled with 4/5 rotation spots spoken for by contracts and Gibson. He has the stuff and relieving should allow him to not only maximize it but minimize his control issues that plagued him as a starter.
  4. May is kinda the lynch pin, they lose the key pen piece if he is closer.
  5. Could have traded for Papelbon for peanuts. Yes he has issues but another back end pen piece was needed because this writing has been on the wall for awhile, and Jepsen isn't a 8th inning guy let alone a closer.
  6. I was ok with them not trading Perkins at his peak, it would have been the smart move but the cheap contract and left handedness made me think he would continue to be a positive asset as long as they didn't stick with him at closer too long. Well big surprise they stuck with him as closer too long, and did nothing to address the back end of the pen so now Jepsen is there again when he isn't really even an 8th inning guy. The wave of hard throwing kids is coming but none are proven, TR needed to add a legit back end piece this off season if they were really trying to compete for the playoffs, because this situation was not hard to see coming.
  7. Well isn't that nice got home just in time to watch Jepsen blow it.
  8. Is Gibson's sinker the best single pitch in the rotation or maybe on the staff? I think his slider and change have the break to be swing and miss stuff, he just needs the command of them to up his k rate. He suffers Scott Baker syndrome right now needing a little bit more somewhere to be able to end abs sooner be it with weak contact in play or ks. I think Gibson is a nice 3 with the potential to be a good 2 if he really gets his stuff together.
  9. Duffey earned the shot last year, he ran with it and the as it should be gets first crack. Berrios goes to AAA to get a bit of seasoning at a level he hasn't spent much time at and has every chance to force his way onto the team. Duffey is an interesting case because of his reliever roots, hes their first transition type that they have picked a few of recently. A converted closer with the pitch mix to start, if he ends up being a 4 or 5 kinda guy because of stamina/ control/ pitch-ability whatever you can transition him into a back end bullpen role because of stuff. May is currently the prototype (not knocking May at all!) for this and there are multiple similar profile types in the system. What is the value of a 4th/5th starter vs a setup guy in today's game?
  10. Buxton already has a good enough skill set as an extremely fast defensive center fielder to warrant his place in the majors. The Twins are betting he has the pedigree to learn the offensive side on the fly, and its nice to see them doing so. Hopefully batting 9th gets him some meatballs to line and should allow him to really work on his base running. Even if the average and discipline take awhile too really come around hes super valuable with 35+ steals. The downside is learning in the majors there will be some growing pains.
  11. Him playing the outfield by starting on the warning track, within arms reach of the wall, so there was no way he would have to go back on a ball was hilarious. Not really a good hilarious but one must find joys painful times.
  12. Out of the young arms who is going to be the future closer? If they are looking at it long term, the best outcome is probably Perkins becomes your setup lefty because Burdi? Meyer? Landa? May? has supplanted him as closer. I would have liked them to get a legitimate 8th inning guy but 3+ years is a lot.
  13. This is excellent in theory, however its also the same approach they have normally taken while still holding youngsters back. A legit now setup guy would have been nice, and you can always trade pen pieces so its not like they would have been blocking the kids too hard.
  14. I have been on the Marshall train for awhile, he was a really really nasty lefty previously. Reclamation projects in the pen can pay off big, really any high upside pitcher going there is worth the risk because they can pay off or be replaced easily without it being super expensive. TR likes to play it safe and go low risk low upside guys (Fien, Duesing, Gurrier) which peak at being a decent bullpen. I would much rather have some flame outs along with some studs, There are some young kids coming that may fit that bill, but if they are blocked by a stud you either have a good bullpen or a valuable trade piece.
  15. Juggling an extra bat is not a bad thing at all, but doing so at the sake of Sano being the everyday 3rd baseman for as long as he possibly can is. Juggle Plouffe, Mauer, Park, RF, and some Sano DH days to your hearts content but give 3rd to Sano.
  16. Not a real big fan of bringing Fien back but it seems like he is there to be a placeholder/ depth for when the young guys are ready. TR needs to sign a legit setup guy/ closer plus 1 more reliever. Perkins FA (Soria/ Clippard) May Jepsen Tonkin Fien FA (Loogy or long guy)* *Sean Marshall or Antonio Bastardo would look nice here though I would guess TR goes more along the lines of Cotts/ Ramos.
  17. TR seems to be in a wheeling and dealing mode so lets say he went nuts and have some fun with it. Trade Plouffe for pitching (straight up for a promising young starter or a stud young reliever +) Trade Gibson for a big bat corner outfielder (How awesome would Jay Bruce or CarGo be? How much more do those cost? What about Ozuna from the Marlins?) Sign Jordan Zimmerman Trade Arcia for peanuts Sign Tyler Clippard Sign Sean Marshall CF Buxton 2B Dozier 3B Sano RF Bat acquired for Gibson DH Park LF Roasrio 1B Mauer SS Escobar C Murphy C Suzuki IF Nunez IF/OF Santana OF/ 1B/ 3B Old vet acquired from Nolasco Zimmerman Santana Hughes May Duffey Milone Tonkin Marshall Jepsen Plouffe aquisition Clippard Perkins
  18. I like this move, and its nice to see TR being aggressive. I don't think Hicks is going to ever hit enough to be a valuable piece in a corner outfield spot, and his defense in center was mediocre (plus Buxton). I don't know much about Murphy but looks like he is a superior defender to Suzuki and has a good chance to already be a better bat, while also being young and only having a year of service time.
  19. Seemed like Anderson was throwing a ton of changeups about belt high, those are supposed to go into the seats not the catchers glove.

    What if...?

Lets pretend you had access to a crystal ball during spring training. When you asked it where will the Twins be Aug 30th and it said 82-76, 1 game back in the wildcard, you could make some pretty logical assumptions on how that came to be. -Phil Hughes and Ervin Santana had solid years and led the rotation -Kyle Gibson took a step forward in consistency -Arcia/ Vargas/ Santana avoided crashing back to earth and turned in decent seasons -Young stud relievers rode the fast track and replaced the place holder bullpen -Mauer regained some of his old form -Buxton/ Sano/ Rosario made cameos as September call ups None of that stuff happened, instead the Twins find themselves where they are based on a molten hot streak during the first half, a frigid cold streak in the 2nd, and a major rookie boost that came early. This season has been unexpected and fun to watch but in the end if they do not make it my major what ifs will be -What if Santana didn't get suspended and Pelfry never got a chance to entrench himself in the rotation? -What if DanSan/ Vargas/ Arcia didn't have terrible years? -What if TR built a bull pen not based around the core of Boyer/ Fien/ Duensing? -What if Suzuki had a competent backup (or preferably was that backup)? -What if Hunter/ Dozier didn't disappear in the 2nd half? -What if Berrios had been called up?
  21. He actually seems to have somewhat suddenly forgot how to hit. I think he is one to let get away, let someone else try to fix the gaping holes in his swing and attempt to get him to not take cuts like hes playing a carnival strength test game.
  22. Plouffe has turned into a solid player, I still think he is worth more to the Twins as a trade piece however. You have to trade good players to get good players back and if Plouffe could return a promising starting pitcher, shortstop, or catcher he should be moved. Third base needs to belong to Miguel Sano and Plouffe hasn't ever developed the defensive chops to become the Cuddyer clone that would have fit the team well.
  23. Sano. Gotta be terrifying for the pitcher to have to try and sneak one by him 3-2.
