  1. Anyone know which roster Buxton is with. Hopefully with a split squad he gets at least 2 plate appearances today.
  2. Anything that prevents him from hitting .415 with 8 HR's this spring is probably a good thing. If we send him down after that the fringe fans and even some real fans will go nuts. I have no doubt he will be a productive major leaguer starting at some point this year, but if we rush him I feel like equaling Hicks #'s early might not be all that automatic.
  3. Just like anything else some guys are more willing to play through things then others. I don't care if it's in the players head or he just isn't physically put together much like I don't care if lack of production is more mental or based on ability. Be as tough as you can, and then be a little tougher. I understand you are worried about your body at 50, if thats what drives you sign for less money and be honest about it.
  4. I think it was Feb 22. I know the $18 seats are very close to selling out for opening day, They really aren't marketing opening day tickets which indicates to me they won't have any trouble selling it out. As for the flex pricing I would imagine the goal is to do whatever it takes to get 30,000+ almost every night and make money on concessions. $6 seats are hard to pass up and it appears there are thousands of seats at under $10 if nothing changes.
  5. I feel like booing Jeter simply because two farewell tours from the same team in two years is annoying. That being said I have more problem with Rivera, I really don't care about the guy who made the final out in many of our playoff losses, and despite the fact he was different then most closers he was just a closer. I respect Jeter but there are 28 other opposing teams that also have great players who sometimes retire. It's the other 28 teams turn.
  6. The nice thing is my ideal weather is 55-60 and clouds. I love a chance of rain too so I can go to stubhub and sit in the dugout box for around $25.
  7. I didn't pay any attention over the offseason, but I just looked and the Twins are selling weekday tickets for as low as $6 through the end of April. Looks like I will be at every game in April without having to worry what stubhub says. Gotta be a few 70 degree days in there too.
  8. While I agree with your way of looking at things, this board is very fair in that respect. Yes some are sick of certain things be it management or certain players, that can be annoying but as long as they make rational arguments fair. These are real Twins fans with possibly a small handful of exceptions. These are people who know the roster forward and backwards, are for the most part hopeful about Buxton, Sano and other prospects. I can very easily if I want say I'm done with Gardenhire or sick of certain players. I can very easily see 90 losses again this season. I choose not to have that attitude as I have the option of not watching and if I did have that attitude I wouldn't watch. I love the Twins a franchise that won the world series at the age of 8 and 12. A franchise that I have never seen fire a manager, and a franchise that has given us a lot in seasons expectations have been low. It will take a heck of a lot more then 3 90 loss seasons to get down on this franchise, but for others thats fair. In baseball there is always a path to greatness if enough things go right so I'll worry about what might go wrong if and when it actually happens.
  9. I just want there to be a point in the summer where if we sweep a home series we could be tied for first. A lot of guys on or potentially on this team that we have no business expecting much out of that could turn out to be difference makers. Willingham Hicks Sano Kubel Pinto Arcia Plouffe and Doizer. If somehow 3 of those guys turn out, and the pitching does it's job we should have at least a few fun summer evenings at the ballpark
  10. It'll be interesting to see what it will cost to get in the futures game in the scalper market. Thats really the only event that I might be willing to pay Ok money to see in person.
  11. Outdoor baseball will never be new again. Remember 2010 was not only a new ballpark, not only the second of back to back division titles, the weather on game days was great from April all the way until the playoffs. In the last two years pretty much everybody from the person that goes to to 3 games a year to season ticket holders has had to put up with bad weather or postponed games. If the forecast opening day is 75 degrees good luck finding face value tickets on the street. If it's 55-60 but the Twins are 4-2 or 5-1 and Sano has 3 HR's good luck getting face value tickets. And of course come a midsummer series against Boston the Yankees or the Brewers these factors get multiplied even more. Don't underestimate the power of a run of 75-80 degree days when the Twins are in town in May will do for overall attendance for the year. I expect to be able to go to a game for $20 or less anytime I want, but I hope by midsummer enough is going right that I am forced to buy directly from the Twins again.
  12. I understand Mauer's trade value probably isn't all that high unless we were to pay a good chunk of his salary, but this is an explore our options sort of thing. If we are so dead set in ignoring all other options because we have a player who is good enough or more then good enough it's kind of hard to get better especially when we all know in 2 or 3 years he will not be good enough and will still be paid like a superstar. A platoon won't replace Mauer, everyone knows that. However when you actually look at all options, you might find out that you come close enough. Theres gotta be a team out there that would overpay for someone like Joe Mauer, it doesn't take much to greatly improve the long term outlook if we win a Joe Mauer trade by even just a little. But you want me to say Parmelee and Sano or something meaningless like that.
  13. Tough to do with a 25 man roster, but in a pennate chase come September 1st get every pitcher available up, and if you get to extra innings of a game that didn't go as planned worst case you have to toss a top double A starter in. Of course your minor league teams would be a joke at that point but I've never understood why the Twins should care about the minor league playoffs.
  14. Agreed Mauer has if anything been underrated the last two years, of course we're measuring him in War rather then wins over platoon, at Catcher that makes sense, at first the difference between a replacement production and platoon could be huge. Replacement level first base stats would be very good stats at catcher, add to that with a platoon and your getting to the point of borderline all-star at catcher. I guess the bottom line you could always platoon 1st base for very little money and get very good offensive production.
  15. If there is a way to avoid taxes drug addicts will never have any shame in doing so. We'll see in a few years what happens in Colorado, but I don't want no government drugs if they over regulate.
  16. Mauer is worth nowhere near his contract at this point. If you could unload him use his money throughout the roster you would do it. Of course Mauer is greater then a platoon but if a platoon at first of Sano and anyone is an option you consider it. We won't be able to trade Mauer anyways but this is what teams like Oakland try to do and it works.
  17. Of course if a player is to good to platoon you don't, but the option to trade into a platoon situation is the next step. Sometimes easier said then done, but we're looking at is a way of measuring WAP (wins over platoon) instead of WAR. Suddenly some very good high priced guys aren't as great. Hate to say it but this means if he would waive the no trade we should look to trade Mauer for baseball purposes.
  18. I've always heard that heroin deaths are usually from a bad batch of heroin. An addict and a drug that gives them the desired result will not be OD'd on unless its a suicide attempt. As for pot laws, I would agree with most of the arguments, but have people really had trouble with the law because of the drug itself? What makes the cops show up is more important then what charge they haul you off with.
  19. No, if this is the moneyball strategy that works you would then make a trade. Why have, for lack of a better comparison, .280 hitters everywhere when you can trade for a .290 hitter and be left with 2 .270 - .275 hitters at one position. The key to moneyball is that it is what drives your decisions. Your overall point is fine if your not playing moneyball.
  20. As the season ticket holder base decreases the secondary market dries up. Only way those tricks work this year is if it's a horrible product on the field.
  21. Hard to worry to much about a RINO who is being promoted like McCain and Romney, and clearly he did something that is not OK and if someone wants to throw him behind bars I'm all for it, but going nuts because of a traffic problem that was politically motivated when ignoring things like the clear connection to the presidents campaign in the politically motivated IRS scandal is insane. Then again at this point what difference does it make.
  22. It is the only sensible way to vote against Bonds. Lets get real Frank Thomas did steroids, players of that era owed it to the fans no excuses.
  23. I don't totally throw out the post steroid use stats but in my mind McGwire and Sosa were not anywhere near a path to the hall. McGwire was basically Josh Willingham from 27 years old on, and Sosa was basically Jason Kubel. Bonds belongs in the Ruth Mays Ted Williams wing of the Hall it is insane to vote Thomas in and not Bonds.
