  1. It was a joke. You know, humor, Ar Ar.
  2. What are you saying. You're just not happy unless you're miserable? Makes total sense.
  3. I'm with Seth. You can't please some people. I myself could not be happier. I was super excited when they drafted him. I was gratified by his first full year in pro ball. I was shocked and dismayed by his injury. I was impressed by how hard he worked to come back. And I was extremely impatient when he was knocking on the door. Now I can just be excited to watch him pitch. I get an added sense of excitement when Hicks and Arcia hit. This will be like that and then some.
  4. I assume they determined that Doumit is not seriously hurt before they made this move.
  5. I get this now, but I originally thought this was a 15-day deal, which could give Albers a real chance to show what he can do against MLB hitters. It was on his turn in the rotation, and on merit alone, he deserved the shot. But I also get that Hernandez has value. So, as a temporary move this makes sense.
  6. If they can get a B prospect at a position of need (such as middle infield), they should certainly entertain the offer. I doubt they would get such an offer, but GMs desperate for an edge down the stretch sometimes do this. Bill Smith did something similar in 2010.
  7. According to LaVelle, it happened shagging fly balls yesterday.
  8. Makes sense. According to Lavelle, they don't see Hernandez as the ultimate replacement, just a one-start stop gap. That's comforting.
  9. Hendriks is another on who could easily be DFAed. For that matter DeVries could as well. Getting shelled in AAA means they will pass through waivers with ease.
  10. Buxton needs to be challenged to grow. There is no good reason to keep him in low A. Brad Stile has said his promotion is "close" for two weeks. Yet they do not promote him. It is inexplicable. This is not Twins bashing.
  11. It's at least two starts, possibly three. Hernandez is not and never will be a capable major league starter. That much was plain in his last stint. He got shelled in AAA and is the worst of the five guys down there. This will not go well. I can't believe they don't have contingency plans in case of injury.
  12. If they don't limit his innings, they are taking a huge, unnecessary risk. The science is well documented. They have a recent example of how this risk came back to bite them in Liriano. If they push it beyond 140, I would be shocked.
  13. Easy: DFA Hernandez, call-up Albers.
  14. My 2 cents: Until about 2009, the Twins focused on Venezuela ans Australia, choosing not to compete in the Dominican. Now they spend as much there as anywhere. they also do a lot of work in Europe. That focus is paying off, and I expect that trend to continue.
  15. Most businesses enjoy publicly funded infrastructure. State and local governments are all too happy to fund bonding projects that will bring good jobs to their local tax base. The other stuff is unique to baseball though.
  16. I'll go you one further: It's much better than last year. The pitching, in particular, is much deeper. List curtesy of Cots ( I deleted names I thought were not options, or who have options): Bronson Arroyo Scott Baker Erik Bedard A.J. Burnett Scott Feldman Matt Garza Jason Hammel Tim Hudson Phil Hughes Josh Johnson Hiroki Kuroda John Lannan Ted Lilly Tim Lincecum Shaun Marcum Ricky Nolasco Mike Pelfrey Ervin Santana Jason Vargas Chien-Ming Wang Chris Young
  17. I like some of the pitchers. I think they will concentrate on that.
  18. No, but they will have to spend more money in the offseason if they expect to win. That doesn't mean they will win if they spend the money. It just increases their odds of winning (assuming they spend their money wisely).
  19. What, did you kill a relative in battle? He's the best Twins pitching prospect since Garza, maybe even better than Garza. He's better, right now, than four fifths of the rotation. The odds against your hypotheticals are pretty long.
  20. The problem is, we lack evidence. Is the current spending an outlier or part of a trend? The cynics are inclined to say it's part of a trend. The homers are inclined to call it an outlier. I lean toward the latter camp, but all I have to go on is the decade prior to this year, in which they spent close to 50% of revenue every year, give or take 5%. I understand that's not good enough for some. And I accept that I'll never convince them until the Twins indeed spend 50% of revenue again. But I fail to see why they wouldn't do that. You have to spend money to make money. They will lose money if they are so cheap, they fail to field a winning team. That is the reality of the business.
  21. I'm trying to understand this. Florimon has the best UZR for a Twins shortstop since Hardy. Dozier's been the best since Hudson. Plouffe/Carroll has been better than last year's combination of Valencia and him. Hicks is a slight downgrade from Span. Parm is a slight downgrade from Revere. Otherwise, it's the same team. Overall, it should be better than last year by a significant amount.
  22. I was with the Twins on the "inconsistent" comment six weeks ago. But when TR repeated it to Lavelle late last week, I no longer agreed. Of course, "consistent" is so vague as to be almost meaningless, or it can mean whatever the Twins want it to over whatever period they want it to. It could, for example, mean he needs to pitch a shutout in every start. It could also mean that one bad start among 10 is enough to make him inconsistent. That's what's so insidious about their position. Six weeks ago it made sense. Now it certainly does not. You have confidence he will be up soon. I think he'll run out of innings in AAA and they'll say he just wasn't consistent this year. In sooth, he's been more consistent than anybody in the Twins rotation not names Correia.
  23. Signing him to a new deal does not guarantee him a spot in the starting line-up. Perhaps his role would decrease. That would be up to him. Worst case, he's a solid lefty bat off the bench who can provide some competition for the Parmelees of the team to continue to progress. Parmelee is not taking playing time from him at this point.
  24. This. It is well past time to make this move. Perhaps they want a lefty in the rotation. Fine, make it Albers. But find a way to get Gibson up here before he hits his innings limit, please.
  25. I'm still waiting for the definitive source that the Twins will continue to pare payroll despite a $25 million wind fall. I would argue that if they ever should sign a guy like Morneau to end his career with the team, it is after this season, when they will have more money available than ever before and when he will be more affordable than he's been since his second year in the majors.
