  1. Doesn't have to. His norms are a .270 batting average and a .310 BABIP over 1300+ big league PAs. He doesn't have to keep hitting .330 to have value. I think that's where the craziness about him goes south for me.
  2. It's .365 right now and it's .340 over this year and last. He's proven to be about 40 points away from that mark over his time with the Twins. He's hit .279 with the Twins overall, with a .320 BABIP in about a full season worth of PA.
  3. .300/.344/.445 over his last 316 PA (this year and last). Don't know about you, but I'd give that a longer look.
  4. He's exactly one month younger than Brian Dozier
  5. I won't say that necessarily either, but I think it was the right time based on what we've seen so far. They did at the time on Carlos Gomez, too. Then A. the Brewers eventually (not right away) let Gomez do whatever he wanted and B. the Twins foolishly then sold low on Hardy for some reason.
  6. No disagreement here.
  7. Well, Aaron Hicks. Just didn't pan out on the other end.
  8. He was getting throttled at Triple-A, too. Still a small sample size and this still feels like moving deck chairs on the Titanic, but...
  9. Because he's been playing well. You can't just fold up shop and decide to stop trying to win. Beyond that, he's got obvious trade value between now and the offseason, where I'm certain they'll move him.
  10. Beyond that, he was only up because he was a warm body and on the 40-man roster. The same has been true about Polanco all along. It's unfortunate to be in that bind, but would you prefer that, or guys like Beresford and Mastroianni being added? It's a versatile 25-man roster, and I do believe for now that Nunez should be playing regularly. So that means not a lot of playing time for Polanco -- who incidentally has not played ANY shortstop all year. Could be telling....
  11. There haven't been many, but I took a look at the positives for the Twins team right now: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/minnesota-twins/looking-minnesota-twins-positives/
  12. I believe this was spun off from the conversation Seth and I had. I called the team "young" because of the nearly inverse relationship between who was getting paid the last few years and who was providing the results. So maybe what I meant was "baseball young" or "inexperienced" rather than young.
  13. The team got an F overall.
  14. They called up the young players because A. they needed bodies and B. they had nobody else to go to. That's what happens when the guys ahead of them are vested vets (Dozier) or on a hot streak (Nunez). Kepler certainly should have played more when he was up, but that was a byproduct of the time he came up. The Twins still -- for whatever reason, good or bad -- believed they owed it to themselves to see if Eddie Rosario could kick the funk he was in, which I believe he did for a very brief period.
  15. Based on expectations I probably should have gone that route, but I also baked in a little bit of how skeptical I am he can keep it up. That was probably unfair.
  16. That's the issue. They're signed with "high floors" because they're "safe." The contracts are all downside with no upside. At least with Hughes' first deal, he was well under 30 and had some upside left.
  17. This was written prior to Tuesday's game, when Plouffe homered off Gausman. He was in a miserable slump. Also, think about expectations for some players against others. And again, this was written BEFORE Berrios started on Tuesday.
  18. Took a stab at grading the team after 31 games here: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/minnesota-twins/twins-report-cards/ Let me know what you think.
  19. You just said it. Basically the same team. Adding Park over Hunter is big. Adding Abad over Duensing is big. Going with Pressly over Boyer is pretty big. That's a more talented team on the surface. But honestly, I've said in a few places this can be a "better" team and still win fewer games. At this point, however, that point doesn't stand.
  20. Sure, but this is a guy that was never as close to as good as he was in Double-A anywhere else before that. I'd be worried about pushing him too quickly, especially since he's going to be pretty toolsy. He should be able to help this team sooner rather than later, I think.
  21. I'm not really looking forward to the savage beating that I'll get in the comments, but I don't write things for nobody to read them either I guess. Here's 4,000 words from me on the current state of the Twins. Be gentle. http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/minnesota-twins/breaking-twins-roster-construction/
  22. When I say great, I mean compared to where he was before.
  23. Hey guys, I don't post too much around here but in light of Miguel Sano playing third base today and the Twins shaking it up a bit, I thought I'd share something I wrote yesterday that went up today. Basically, the Twins have some very tough decisions to make about this defense, and I spent a lot of words trying to find some answers: Some discussion of this would be great: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/american-league/minnesota-twins/defensive-questions-with-no-definitive-answers-for-the-twins/
