  1. Then again, I might be the wrong person to speak. I don't think the bullpen has been effing horrible. They're finally striking people out, not really walking anybody and right now are 13th in xFIP across MLB. Pretty much everyone out there is doing a decent job, as was Buddy Boshers, whom I would have kept up quite frankly.
  2. I don't think that's the right way of looking at it. Not "is Jose Berrios as good as Pat Dean" but "is Jose Berrios as good as Jose Berrios needs to be to actually help this team?" There's no way you could have justified giving him another start after getting crushed by the Tigers.
  3. Therein lies my frustration with how hard I work at covering the team with little to no interaction off that. Hard to imagine how Mr. Berardino feels in that vein.
  4. Oh absolutely. There are a couple of schools of thought. Even if the team wasn't as good as its record indicated last year, there was room for optimism. All the important players were brought back, with Park usurping Hunter as pretty much the only offensive mainstay. It wasn't unreasonable to expect him to outperform Torii and theoretically he still could. But I also said the team could win fewer games and in theory still be "better" than they were last year. And then this happened. Unreal.
  5. Sorry, that wasn't meant to be negative toward you. I just didn't think the team was good last year and I guess I'm kind of tired of being ripped for not being negative enough about the team.
  6. These are all points I made last year. I think they were about a 72-75 win team. And yet people tell me I wasn't and am not negative enough. It was not a good team last year.
  7. No, but I also don't think they're playing at their true talent level. Talent-wise this is a 72-75-win team.
  8. Half assed rebuild? They signed Mike Pelfrey and Kevin Correia while putting together some decent drafts. Regardless, you can't rebuild now with where Sano and Buxton are. You need to be in talent acquisition mode, i.e. actually doing something in FA to surround your young players while they're cheap. Tearing it down now would be.....not wise. Rip down anything not attached to the wall, sure....but rebuild? NO.
  9. Uh, OK. I guess we're going to ignore a. that last year ever happened and b. that this team still has some pretty good, young players. I get that you're using hyperbole, but c'mon now.
  10. Commit to a true rebuild now? Now? No way.
  11. No, because Dozier is signed for multiple years, younger than Suzuki, and actually good.
  12. Here's today's. Tons of updates today on game 1 of the homestand: https://t.co/RfCaBFfZFV
  13. At this point when you're this bad it doesn't really matter. That's why you make the deal. 1. you're so bad it hardly matters and 2. it allows an extended look at John Ryan Murphy to figure out what the heck is going on there.
  14. It might not be an awful move for the Twins to move Suzuki with the idea of re-signing him in the offseason. Not a well-received take I'm sure, but he'd be a good insurance policy if they could get him to take, say, 3-4 mill per year and a reduced role. If he keeps hitting....that isn't likely. But it's something I'd think about.
  15. Dozier is a luxury in two senses: he's a solid player on a ridiculously good contract. It's almost Denard Span 2.o. Can't throw that away.
  16. Jorge Polanco is not -- by any stretch of the imagination -- "better" than Brian Dozier right now. No way.
  17. Agree that they'd like to move Santana, but the rotation depth is at an all-time low with the Hughes injury. At this point you're one move away from giving a rotation spot to Jason Wheeler, who isn't even on the 40.
  18. I just don't see any way they move Dozier.
  19. Fair point but that's all guesswork. Specifically, I don't know that any of these guys have obscene value. My guess is that Nunez would bring back something pretty interesting (B+ prospect, maybe mid-to-back end rotation guy), Plouffe will bring back very little (maybe low, low level but interesting), Suzuki would bring back more than one might think (just due to paucity of catching depth in MLB) and Jepsen would be just PTBNL/cash, or an actual so-so C+ prospect assuming Twins pick up money
  20. I have no issue with extreme. I just think Polanco is a guy I want to force my hand rather than vice versa. I love his approach though. He'll play in the league for a long time.
  21. Dang though, that's some kind of turnover. Trading your starting 2B-3B and SS in the same month? I'm not saying it's wrong or right. It'd just be....unprecedented?
  22. I should say how does that middle infield arrangement make you more likely to win next year? I mean, if it brings back a really good catcher for next year -- can't imagine so but willing to be wrong -- or a good starting pitcher, well, you might be onto something then.
  23. That's sort of my point though, how does moving Dozier and Nunez make you more likely to win next year? I ask that as someone who really, really likes Polanco and frequently advocates for Escobar as well.
  24. I don't really see any way they'll do that, shy of a shockingly good offer. He'd be like....8th or 9th most likely to go just off the top of my head.
  25. I'm iffy on moving him. Do you move him AND Nunez? Do you move one or the other? Because I can't envision a scenario where you move both. That leaves you with an infield of Polanco-Escobar-Sano, and a backup plan of.....Danny Santana? Engelb Vielma? James Beresford? That won't work.
