  1. My Twins trade deadline primer is up: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/minnesota-twins/looking-twins-likely-traded/ Love to hear the community's thoughts on my takes....
  2. I just don't agree. You have to prolong the game before you can think about hypotheticals. If there's one out instead of two, I agree. With two outs, you keep the line moving as long as possible.
  3. brutal decision not to bat Mauer for Santana. even if you're down on Mauer, he gives you a hell of a lot better PA than Santana. and beyond that, you're then weighing Buxton v. Santana -- neither a shoo-in -- and the fact that the game is over if you don't get past the first one. I....I just don't get it.
  4. Got away from posting these lately, but here we go again with Ep. 24. Brandon and Tom are joined by Dan Hayes (@CSNHayes) of CSN Chicago for the first half of the program to talk about the upcoming series between the Twins and the White Sox, and in the second half #oldfriend Matt Trueblood (@MATrueblood) of Baseball Prospectus and BP Wrigleyville joined the program to talk about the world-beating Cubs team. All that and more on this edition of Midwest Swing! http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/midwest-swing-twins-white-sox-cubs-chatter-with-dan-hayes-matt-trueblood/
  5. Stopped posting these for a while and not sure why I did. Here's the latest episode, as we were joined by Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago to preview the Twins-White Sox series and Matt Trueblood of Baseball Prospectus to talk about the red-hot Chicago Cubs: http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/midwest-swing-twins-white-sox-cubs-chatter-with-dan-hayes-matt-trueblood/
  6. Whoops, confused my regression(s) there on the HR rate. That would be, uh, a positive one. Still, for two years and $10 million I'd have given it a spin I think. Edit: Though, it's not like he put much of anything good together last year. Feels a little hindsight-y to me.
  7. I was all in on Kelley. Cishek would have been fine, and I actually was hoping they'd have traded for him at the break last year. But even Cishek is up and down, with a ton of room for regression this season (walks, HR rate, BABIP AND strand rate).
  8. LOL. None of those guys have the kind of value needed to get Kimbrel. Or Smith, I would venture.
  9. Guys, feel free to name names you would have added. The market this offseason was whack.
  10. What? Kimbrel and Smith? I'm not even saying this in light of how hilarious that would look now, but you understand the assets that'd have been given up for those two guys, right?
  11. Did you read the article, which I wrote, or the headline, which I did not?
  12. I didn't really have an issue with how the Twins conducted business regarding their bullpen in the offseason. Now before you jump down my throat, please read what I wrote for Today's Knuckleball: https://t.co/ViMHWhWH7Y Then we can discuss.
  13. Not really fair to compare strikeouts per nine when considering the difference in eras there. Blyleven's best year of K/9 was 8.0. Ricky Nolasco this year is right around there at 7.8. Times change, yo.
  14. Well, no. The eras were completely different. That was the a. Metrodome and b. tail end of the steroid era.
  15. It's complicated, but I haven't agreed fully with any take I've seen elsewhere, so here goes: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/minnesota-twins/past-present-future-oswaldo-arcia/#disqus_thread
  16. But you've got a few months between now and then where you really should be figuring that out. That's why I think I'd get him back up here. Can't go into next year not having any idea what he can do.
  17. No I get that. I just mean the track record supports "he can kind of hit" rather than "is this person blind?" I'd give him another shot relatively soon here.
  18. Hot take: I might take a shot on Jason Castro, who is supposedly a good framing catcher who has shown some ability to hit in the past.
  19. Murphy, who is younger than Mitch Garver and -- I believe -- will still get it going offensively. He's now up to .341/.408/.561 in June. I think we've seen enough of Juan Centeno, by the way.
  20. Suzuki has hit much better in June and even dating back to mid-May, and I happened to stumble upon the reason over the weekend at Target Field. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it and learning about it: http://coldomaha.com/2016/twins/kurt-suzuki-credits-new-weapon-in-recent-resurgence/
  21. Decided to try figure it out, and came up with this article: http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/minnesota-twins/gotten-robbie-grossman/ let me know what you think, thanks!
  22. Literally no one had Wacha at No. 2 overall. That would have been a reach. And beyond that, I'll still take Buxton's potential over Wacha's. Since his magical rookie season: 3.63 ERA, 7.7 K/9, 3.0 BB/9. Those guys aren't (SHOULDN'T BE) hard to find.
  23. Appel didn't go No. 1 the year Buxton went, either. I'm saying the Twins could have drafted for need (Appel, who went 8th) or went best available, which worked out better for them.
