  1. Plouffe is a lock to be signed next year. Given the Hicks disaster in CF there is no way the Twins will leave themself exposed to a rookie as their only option at 3B. The Twins aren't going to give up on him just yet anyway even if they did have plenty of other options at 3B.
  2. Durn right! During one of the telecasts, TK stated that the Twins preferred guys "...who were more coachable..." as opposed to [other guys].
  3. Albers improved? How? He was doing very well in the minors (hence the promotion). He pitched two shutouts in his first two appearances. Then (after some time with Anderson) while with the Twins--he gets shelled in his third game. Improvement??
  4. I remember Liriano's real problem was when he got in trouble things multiplied. Often he would sail along inning after inning, but then have one tough inning and the opponents would score 3, 4, or more. It was as if there were were two different guys.
  5. Liriano has had success before, so its not amazing. Pittsburgh is a good team that is playing well consistently--it's not like Francisco is expected to lead them to victory--just help them. But I say wait until crunch time then judge him.
  6. The Twins don't needanother .200 hitter with 15 HR! Let him "refine" for at least another year. His game vs Trenton didn't impress me that "he's ready" at all.
  7. I wonder how many the Twins would have scored if Hermann didn't sacrifice?
  8. Not tanking? Operating on mini-budgets like Houston and Miami? Houston isn't poor and yet they will use a mini-budget and select 1st overall for the third consectutive year! I have yet to hear that Houston will make a substantitive investment to make 2014 season a .500 or better season--I'm not holding my breath either!
  9. Ryan is just affirming a "tough posture". It may seem to be wrong, but remember when the Twins were winning--and looking for upgrades--no one was cutting the Twins a break! So nuts to them. If they want Morneau, pay up, else finish your season with what they have and wonder "what if?" come November--just like we did! September callups are just what is implied--auditions. The Twins have many open jobs for 2014 so let people show what they have--or don't have! Auditions. I watched much of the Rock Cats game last night--brutal! It was clear to me why this team has a losing record. Lazy, half-ass play; situational baseball--unheard by this bunch! Sano apparently only wants to hit fastballs and he can be baited by FBs out-of-zone. Yeah, he needs more experience. A repeat at AA for a spell next year should do him some good--maybe shake his sweet smell of entitlement.
  10. I expect Deduno will be on the DL and someone else will take his starts for awhile. This is "audition time" (remember 2011?) where the barrel is scraped to permit guys "their chance" to see if/where they belong in the scheme of things. I anticipate many losses and few wins the rest of the season.
  11. I thank those that answered why Gibson "gets a Pass" and Pelfrey "gets the lash"--basically "we need Gibson to succeed" but "Pelfrey is just a placeholder". OK, I understand. But if Gibson's 2014 is a repeat of 2013--then what?
  12. Why does Gibson get a pass because "he's only in his second year after TJ surgery", yet Pelfrey motors on as if he never had surgery, but is simply "ineffective"?
  13. May I introduce you to Aaron Hicks and Scott Diamond? edited to add Vance Worley
  14. I think he voluntarily walks away.
  15. Kind of expected. He would be shut down soon enough anyway, and his performances did not indicate "major league". Will he improve next year? I certainly hope so--or it's off to the glue factory with this horse.
  16. Teams rebuilding without "Top 100" prospects? Sacriledge! How are these guys expected to become competant major leaguers? Yes I am tired of the refrain "...but we have the best minor league system in baseball." The recent promotions from minors to majors have yet to identify anyone who will be a future all-star and there is considerable question whether any of these will be worth a contract tender when eligible for salary arbitration. Arcia? Well let's say he won't ever be confused with Tony Oliva.
  17. This "arguement" is so bogus! If said FA is "blocking" said prospect then either said "prospect" isn't as good as advertised or the FA is very good. If the FA is "very good" it shouldn't be difficult to trade him. If the "prospect" isn't so hot--then why the burning need to promote him. This is especially true in pitchers--there are FIVE in the rotation--the teams #1 (who might not actually be a #1 anyplace else) isn't blocking the "prospect"--it's the #5 guy. Since he's #5, he is disposable anyway. The Twins DFA'd Livan Hernandez in August '08, and he "was credited" with 10 wins on his $5MM contract--this means another veteran can likewise be fired even with a sizeable chunk of money left on his contract in the future.
  18. "Sometimes it seems to me that winning "their way", is more important than winning." So true! GMs don't get kudos for doing the same thing everybody else does. Sort of like that line "...but if we win, we'll change baseball." That's the motto.
  19. Wait until 2016? Maybe Rookie League pitchers will become all-stars, maybe I'll lose 25 lbs? ...maybe the Twins decide to spend money and put a better team on the field next year? Or is it the strategy to pour Kool-Aid, tout the "best minor league system in the majors", and use the profit to pay down the short-term debt--yeah that's "The Twins Way". I can only imagine what quote they will use in 2015 when Sano and Buxton on on the Twins and the minor league system falls to league average. Maybe: "These are your Minnesota Twins--get to know 'em"! ...and pray.
  20. The Twins' proble isn't defense in general and definately not OF defense. Gosh sakes, the SUX made 3 errors today and won easily. The Twins are very inconsistent hitters (chicken or feathers) and their pitching is only slightly better than an Iron Mike.
  21. Now we know why KC was so interested in getting a 2B (Carroll) to finish the year--Tejada is suspended for 105 games.
  22. I'm guessing come September Morneau will be sitting most of the time.
  23. "Somebody's babe" was Stacy's song. It played when she snuck out for "her first time"--and ended up pregnant!
  24. Running on the beach--10. I'm so glad they got Doumit back.....
