  1. I believe they wasted this selection. Relief pitchers don't need to be drafted this early. There are glaring needs for OF who can hit, play defense, and throw. The mess of free-swinging, one-dimensional types of late suggests that both corner OF spots are available. Then there is catching. Pitching? Reach for a projectable starter, someone with the frame that says "he could be ...".
  2. Another thread illustrating the pending logjam for three positions--LF, RF, and DH. I can visualize rotating four guys for three positions--but no more than four--some continuity must be preserved in order to maintain consistency of performance. Arcia is like the lobster in a heating pot--he doesn't sense the trouble he is in until it's too late.
  3. "...characterized by clutch hitting and unprecedented pitching...". Whoa--this is what winners do. They hit, pitch, and play defense when "it counts". Examine most WS teams--that what they did. I'm not contending that the Twins will have that level of success. Nor was that level the goal for this season--it was to be respectable. So far they have succeeded at that goal and losing 90 games this season would be a huge stretch. I believe we can rule that one out. Most of the bad years this decade did not start out terrible--on the contrary--they were tepid to slightly negative. The team collapsed when the FO decided to use August and September as tryout time for "prospects". I am convinced that if the Twins stick with"those that got them here" as the regular players and keep the "prospects" to bench players, there won't be a collapse.
  4. The use of a Derek Jeter photo as an example of what we could expect with a #6 selection is a glaring example of bait and switch advertising. Barry Bonds didn't always use steroids--and he put up some truly impressive numbers before he used them.
  5. Considering the misfits the Twins have employed at 3B since Koskie left, I am very skeptical that the Twins would trade Plouffe unless he said "I want out." Please remember that Pohlad used the phrase, "...prospects aren't players...".
  6. Mauer isn't, and shouldn't be moved to the OF. He would be a huge problem in the OF. If the Twins are truly planning on keeping Plouffe (and Plouffe staying!!), there is no better position for him than 3B. Then, Sano moves--period. To be blunt, Sano is no future Adrian Beltre at 3B anyway. Since there will likely be a logjam of potentially power hitters with indifferent (or worse!) fielding skills places must be found for those who truly hit for power and average. The rest, are demoted, traded or lost. There can be no more hand-wringing for those "who are young, and need more time--because those guys got "beat-out" by others who are about the same age or even younger. Players must step-up and win a regular position. The "I'm a prospect" mentality has to be replaced with "perform--or go elsewhere" philosophy. These guys have very little time to win their job--or someone else wil!
  7. ...Then there's the possibility that Plouffe is waiting to finish his six years and become a free agent. He can likely sign a 5+ year contract at an annual salary greater than his combined career MLB earnings--likely someplace other than Minnesota.
  8. Now that the team got above .500, I guess it's time to "right the ship" and promote the MiLers.
  9. Anybody remember that Mauer was the regular catcher? I must have read a 100 posts to move him to 3B, and to the OF, how about Catcher?
  10. An OF who can hit for both average and power (and please not the dreaded 5-tool designation, because none of them the draft are...) should be first choice. SS wind up being "slap-and-dash" guys--which is OK if said player actually is a top SS--but with so many SSs in the system (I'm including the projected Dominican 16-yr old), that type isn't worth a 1-6 selection.
  11. If the photo shown of Arcia is the play vs KC referenced--this is no "can of corn". Many of the same posters that scream for "play the young guys"--give up very quickly on a guy when he struggles. This what leads to a team of Shafers, Escobars, Milhones, Suzukis,...you get my drift. You can't demand the Twins play the "young, high-up-side" guys" then quit on them before one month is up--no, you commit to them. Just like the Twins committed to Plouffe and Dozier.
  12. Frankly, it is too soon to make wholesale changes. The desperate moves of Escobar and Nunez to the OF smack of front office interference. This is what we saw with Gardenhire as manager. I am now convinced that said changes were Front Office inspired. Play who you have (except for injuries or suspension) and build continuity. After 8 weeks, then consider making changes.
  13. After this season, if Meyer can't find the strike zone, it's time to banish him to the bullpen--probably at AA--and write-off the Span trade as a total loss.
  14. The top two prospects had a wasted 2014 due to injury. They will spend all 2015 to try to accomplish what was expected in 2014. Combine that with "The Kris Bryant Syndrome" and we should not expect to see them in a Twins uniform until the third week of 2016. Relief pitchers have the best chance of "getting here" this season due to need and the plethora of candidates in the minors. Those that have already been in the majors have the next priority--with the following caveats, two months of consistently high performance in the minors and not being an IFer (sorry boys, those jobs are filled). There is room in the rotation, but the same two-months will be required. But, I expect a quick hook (two weeks) if results are poor--they can return later in 2015. I only expect one promotion to the rotation at a time. There are guaranteed contracts in force, even if posters don't like them!
  15. Not true. I used to buy a cheapo ticket and sit in the upper deck of CF to watch Hunter 8+years ago. I sure wouldn't today!
  16. Posters, we need to refocus our sights. Instead of "playoff contention" (of which it was frequently stated in TD this off-season wasn't happening), we should compete for "draft position"--an attainable goal. Long term this will prove far more useful than a random extra win a month.
  17. Poor defense? Yes, but 2 HBP and a bases-loaded walk in the 8th--there's no defense in the world that can save that pitching.
  18. Hunter didn't have a prayer to catch that ball. His error came on the misdirected throw to the infield.
  19. May got hammered in the 6th--his pitches were flat and "up". Arcia actually caught one that I didn't think he had a chance. But the bullpen...let me be generous and say "they didn't minimize". Two on, two in, no outs--and HBP, HBP, then a ridiculous error, and then even more... . It wasn't all due to bad defense--but I didn't see many Twins pitchers miss bats (Ks) either, and there were plenty of hard-hit balls by KC hitters.
  20. Hmm, 5 runs allowed isn't great.
  21. It's a great day for a ballgame--too bad there isn't one!
  22. "...until they are ready..." Players aren't like bananas. Sometimes the "best" player is the younger/inexperienced player. Occasionally (all too often) the failed rookie was never destined to be productive--but he still might be the best available. Sorry to say it, but the comment "until they are ready" is basically a self-serving, glittering generality, that is based on hindsight--if he succeeded he was ready, and if he "didn't" he wasn't ready.
  23. Santana has lots of money and access to the finest healthcare insurance--yet you postulate he "asks someone" to get him "something to give him an edge" and we are supposed to believe that this substance isn't prohibited? Not all Fairy Tales begin "Once Upon a Time...".
  24. Amen. There can't be any other rational explanation.
