  1. Should the issue of a new ballpark built for them and they promising to spend more money on the team instead of pocketing it for the most part be addressed? To me this is huge but does it impugn their intent? Murky stuff here, even moral issues in my mind. When they promised to spend more money on the roster and then cut payroll what are the fans to think? It can hardly be had both ways, can it?
  2. Mentioned in this thread is that the Twins have no decent shortstop prospects, however I count three at least with varying degrees of ability, Santana, Polanco and Goodrum, who knows if any of them will be decent down the road or not but at least they are in the organization.
  3. Even though the consensus is about his ability or not to be a decent second baseman should not this be properly determined by Twins' field management and arrived at early on this spring while also taking into account his suspension and what that could ultimately mean in future seasons?
  4. Should we or should we not be critics of the owners as regards how they handle their finances in respect to how much they merely pocket and how much they put back into the organization. And is it really our business as fans to do so? Or if we are displeased with how they are financing or not financing the team should we instead of criticize merely stay away from Target Field?
  5. Vigorous discussion to be sure, much of it centered around pro and anti Terry Ryan posts which is understandable. And not much on pro and anti ownership. There is a large group of people that think ownership is merely feathering their own nest without doing a thing to better the product on the field. Is this valid or not and furthermore does it belong in this forum? I believe moderators should take a close look at this now and in the future.
  6. Hopefully with Baseball Prospectus now in the stores we can get some vigorous discussion of the section on the Twins written by who else but Aaron Gleeman.
  7. I agree 100% with Kab21's comment way back in October about adding the right pieces in MLB right now to augment the good prospects coming along. If management does not do that there is little or no success to look forward to in regards to moving up in the standings.
  8. Thank both of you for your remarks, have either of you seen Aaron's write up? He for sure is not as favorable toward the ball club as most posters are here. I have not purchased the book, only read some of Aaron's article while in Barnes & Noble browsing.
  9. This is way, way off topic but I asked a question and cannot find where on the site it may or may not have been answered. I am obviously doing something wrong. I wanted to start a thread about Aaron Gleeman's article on the Twins in the 2014 Baseball Prospectus and inquired about the appropriateness of it or not. Since Aaron has his webcast posted on the site I wonder how discussing his article in Baseball Prospectus should be approached. Could a moderator give me some help on this one, please.
  10. Aaron Gleeman's review in the new Prospectus that I just read this morning begs comment but I am at a loss at how to go about it. Could a moderator give me some advice here please.
  11. How can Bonifacio utilize his speed when he will not even be able to get on base most of the time, just look at his OBP! Nice fit for Rochester though.
  12. Sconnie, surely you jest about Wilkin Ramirez being ok in LF, he will not even be okay in Rochester.
  13. Okay, anybody that remembers Hurricane Hazle stand up, that is if you are still able to. How many years ago now was it that Hazle played? Thanks for my great laugh of this day.
  14. Jimbo, in what universe is Doumit considered a good ballplayer? Surely not mine and I would think hardly anybody else's either. Teams that people their rosters with players such as Doumit are doomed to failure, so logically why not then take a chance with Gilmartin? Even is he fails you have lost nothing.
  15. So, two "experts" disagree on how many PA's the two catchers get, how really important is that in the whole production or lack thereof in the entire lineup? I would think PA's plus production in traditional hitting spots in the entire batting order is much more important than wondering what two rather pedestrian catchers give to the lineup. If the so-called "big guns" don't produce 90+ losses again are staring us in the face.
  16. What if Turner is available in the second round? And would he likely be passed over by everyone the first time around?
  17. Will the Twins take Trea Turner to fix the shortstop position ultimately?
  18. Surely work with him as a starter but also cut bait sooner rather than later, sounds as though he could be terrific in the pen. And could he close? I do not think it is too early to consider some of these young pitchers as closers down the line. Perkins will not last forever in that role and it might even be propitious to move him sooner rather than later also. This idea of holding onto a "closer" until he is completely out of gas is absurd at best.
  19. Regarding Florimon versus Escobar - I see no real urgency with either of these two players, the effect they will have on how well the team does with these two in 2014 is minimal. And by the time the team is ready to compete for post-season play in 2016 and beyond neither will be on the roster, correct? At that time Santana will be the regular shortstop - no doubt in my mind.
  20. There has been much written over the last few years that Cuddyer is very self-serving and not the great clubhouse influence that he appears to be. This is a somewhat offensive statement I realize and if the moderators decide to delete it I am fine with that, just wanted to mention something about Cuddyer's attitude that has been purported over the years and that I have read previously. I do not know how else to put this delicate situation
  21. Seth, where are you getting these results from? Is it on the official MLB Television network?
  22. That is a rhetorical question I am sure but just who was it? I am sure this has happened many times with various teams hasn't it? And who will blow out their arms this spring with various teams? I'd say maybe even a half-dozen or so, just the nature of the beast. Here is another scenario that begs an answer - Say the Twins are terrible, I posit that they trade anyone that will put a contender over the top if they get the right youngsters and/or prospects. This includes Mauer or their best pitcher at this point including Perkins, but not Sano or Buxton.
  23. Many say trade Correia and imply that it is a given that teams would want him, I do not think it is that simple. Do not most teams already have a Correia type pitcher on their rosters? I believe that is the case so why would they need another one? Perhaps later in the season but not to start the campaign, at least that is my analysis of the situation.
  24. I for one have seen enough of this whole business from management about teaching the young players a lesson, how about a second on that one!
  25. In what disjointed universe was Kubel a "star"?
