  1. Correia as opening day starter, Florimon at SS? 65 sounds about right to me....
  2. If he truly grew an inch in the past year, isn't it even more implausible that he is 23. Very psyched he is going to be in the Twins organization for the next 9-10 years, minimum.
  3. Here is my second wild ass guess for this year. Anthony Slama makes the bullpen, sticks all year, and puts up numbers...that look just like his minor league numbers.
  4. If he hits 400, then yeah, his OBP will likely be north of 50%.
  5. Mauer hits .400.
  6. The Opening Day Starter for Your 2013 Minnesota Twins: Kevin Correia.
  7. Did you just make a Henry Aaron-Rosario comp?
  8. Watched that video last year, but happily watched it again. My question, only partially in jest, is whether Berrios would be one of the five best SP the Twins could start THIS year. Meaning, would Berrios actually give the Twins the best chance to win games this year, despite not having pitched in A ball yet? Here is a more serious question. When is the last time the Twins have had a pitcher put up these kind of numbers in short season ball?
  9. May had a bad start in high A in 2010, and then figured it out in 2011. He wasn't great last year in AA, but in 2013 here's hoping the trend continues and he dominates. If this trend holds, it also means that it will still take him several years before he is pitching well at the majors. The Cain comparison looks about right from this perspective. Cain was in the majors full time for his age 21 season. Ages 21-23, he had ERA's around 4, K/BB around 2, and WHIP around 1.3. Then starting in his fourth full year and for the past four years, his ERA has been at or below 3, his K/BB near 3, and his WHIP under 1.1. Cain is only 6'3" though, not 6'5".
  10. #42 is a pretty high pick for a second rounder...there are a lot fewer sandwich picks this year.
  11. Webb is the only FA pitcher I am left to hold out hope for.
  12. This thread was alternately interesting and painful. Along the lines of the original question...if the Twins optimal contention year will be 2016 (which seems reasonable to me, when most of the considerable talent they have in the farm will be contributing in the bigs)...here is my question: Given the players currently in the system today, which starting lineup and rotation would win the most games in 2013? Ignore the minors progressions and service time. Would Meyer and Berrios be in the starting lineup? Would Rosario be the starting 2B? Would Buxton out produce Hicks or Benson or Mastro?
  13. Benson, Colabello, and Slama would get my votes.
  14. Worse, because each successive league in the majors is about 15% better, and the amount a player improves each year is likely 5% or under. I'm also optimistic about Rosario being the Twins 2B of the future, and eager to see what a year under his belt at 2B and an injury free one to boot looks like.
  15. OMW--the Hall already has cheaters in it, and we don't really know who the cheaters are. I agree with JimCrikket. If you don't want a Hall of Fame with Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens in it, why bother having a hall of fame?
  16. Sure, let's hope TR grabs Bedard and Webb too. As an example, last year Atlanta grabbed Sheets, who was able to recreate his previous results. If any of Harden, Webb or Bedard got healthy, it would be a windfall. I also would still hope Ryan signs Marcum for at least 3 years. 2014 rotation of Marcum, Gibson, Worley, Hendriks, and Diamond would be fine, with May and Meyer getting close.
  17. Joe Nathan might help make this happen. How about Profar for Morneau? Ok, too much. Martin Perez?
  18. Haren isn't a Cub yet...and I meant Twinstripes, not pinstripes. Come on, Terry Ryan, land him....
  19. By the end of today, I would like to see Baker and Haren in pinstripes. Is that too much to ask? (Rumors the Twins were in it heavily on Ervin Santana, so Haren would be comparable.)
  20. Slama wasn't claimed last year because he was injured. He would get claimed this year, and become a reliable part of someone else's bullpen unless the Twins protect him.
  21. I'd add Hicks, Gibson, Hermsen, Salcedo, Bromberg, and Slama.
  22. My stating rotation, from existing options, would be Diamond, Hendriks, Gibson, Baker, and Bromberg. My preference would be to trade for a rookie arm; (say Span or Morneau for Randall Delgado or Mike Minor or a Texas arm), or sign someone in free agency (I would try to split the difference between a Marquis-type and a Greinke-type. A trade for MN-native Josh Johnson would also fit the bill, but that would take more than MLB-ready players. How about a Johnson-Baker-Diamond-Hendriks-Gibson rotation? That sounds at least average to me.
  23. I'd vote Gibson the pitcher of the day. Nice days by Sano, Slama, and Gibson. Parmelee also keeping rolling.
