  1. I don't know, Dozier getting traded would be the biggest transaction since Johan. I think the interest is warranted. Plus the entertainment factor of Dave sticking to his guns, while hanging tough in the face of a lot of blowback. And then you've got mod and owner intervention and associated criticism. Finally, your got some damn funny posts. It's the perfect storm.
  2. I think, but am not entirely sure, that there were one too many buts in this post.
  3. This thread is hilarious. Almost game thread quality at times. In some ways it would be better if Dave were in fact making the whole thing up.
  4. Is Brock playing the part of Sean Hannity in this particular scenario?
  5. Let's get meta here. If a trade falls in the forest, does it make a sound? If a trade is scooped on a message board, is it a scoop? Can a trade occur with all the relevant parties on a plane?
  6. That would be some serious news, of the not good variety. But it reminds me, I need to make a stop at the package store on the way home.
  7. If this trade gets done the way DaveW has reported it, I think he gets to (has to?) write the trade analysis piece for the website. Was it just me, or was the Rule 5 draft result...complicated?
  8. While teams usually pack up and fly it after the Rule 5 draft...the brand new, massive MGM Casino is opening at National Harbor this evening. Just saying.
  9. However, if Eaton moves off of CF, he will lose value, because there is a positional adjustment (bonus, essentially), for playing an up-the-middle position like CF.
  10. You are right. On BBref, he has 3.1, 3.7, and 6 WAR seasons, an average of 4.3 WAR. If you start at 4.3 and decline to 2.3 in 2021, that's the same 16WAR you came up with. I have seen the many arguments on TD that WAR isn't a useful stat. However, it's pretty well established that WAR and the price per WAR in millions match up extremely close to the dollars and years of free agent contracts. Since that is the case, it seems very important to pay attention to and understand the WAR stat.
  11. Still, Brasoban has only pitched above low A in 2016, so they are a year apart. Compare these minor league stats: Perdomo / Brasoban IP: 280 / 360 Throws: L / R Height: 6'6" / 6'1" ERA: 3.01 / 3.89 HR/9: 0.32 / 0.62 BB: 136 / 152 K: 336 / 300
  12. I apologize, Perdomo only pitched at Low A last year, not high A.
  13. What I don't get is why Yimmi Brasoban is considered the top option. He was the 19th best prospect on San Diego a year ago, then pitched 40+ innings of decent ball at high A and AA, with 8+ K/9. Perdomo was the 9th best prospect in the Blue Jays system a year ago (on some lists), and pitched 127 innings at high A, making significant improvements in the BB/9 department, which was his big flaw, while striking out 150+ batters with high velocity. Plus he's left-handed. Seems like Perdomo should be the clearcut option to me...just looking at the background.
  14. There are some rumblings that the Twins will trade the pick. Hope they do, and take a High A guy like Angel Perdomo or Nabil Crismatt (who seems like a player with exceptional control) with a later pick. Doesn't seem like either are touted as going at the top of the Rule 5 (but this thing seems hard to project).
  15. When doing this calculation, you need to subtract 0.5 WAR per year in the players decline years. So 3.8 + 3.3 = 7WAR * $8million / WAR = $56mm, or $41mm. Same thing when calculating Eaton's value, you aren't factoring his decline of 0.5WAR per season.
  16. Let's play a game with this. What would the analogy be to De Leon / Bellinger / 2 X 20-25 guys in the Twins system? Berrios, Gordon, Lewin Diaz and F Jorge? Or would Kepler match up with Bellinger better?
  17. I can see the headline on MLBTradeRumors now... Source from either Twins or Dodgers organization tells regular Twins fanblog poster Spirit of Spirit of Vodka Dave that Dozier trade is almost done; sticking point is 25th-ranked Dodger prospect. DaveW, I believe that is what you heard, and I believe that is what your source thinks. But there are some holes in the story. I think the skepticism is warranted. But fun rumor, and I would certainly like the return you outline. (But would like Barnes as the third piece back, as I have been saying since the trade deadline.)
  18. To me the biggest news was the fact that the Nats offered Giolito, Robles and Reynaldo Lopez for Chris Sale, and that offer wasn't enough, as the White Sox instead opted for Moncada. If these sorts of packages are being offered, are we positive Urias is untouchable? The general sentiment around these parts is, yeah, he's a non-starter, so don't even bother. But maybe seeing these sorts of prospects offered will alter some thinking about what can be asked for and what is offered.
  19. Very impressive write-ups. Particularly like the Romero description "next year we may all feel foolish for having him this low..."
  20. While looking over the Phillies lists, I notice that in 2013/2014, both the Twins and the Phillies drafted a SS and a RHP with their first rounders. The Twins picked earlier each time (#4, #5 vs #16 and #7). One pair of picks is not like the other: A ) JP Crawford, Aaron Nola B ) Kohl Stewart, Nick Gordon
  21. True, which is why my *perfect* Phillies trade would be Crawford and Nola with Appel thrown in. It's not very realistic, I'll admit.
  22. Meaning you are convinced he is never going to amount to anything? I'm not convinced of that.
  23. If the Nats are indeed willing to trade Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles for Chris Sale, what is the Twins' equivalent? I think it would be Buxton and Berrios. Yikes. That would be steep price to pay.
