  1. From what I've read, and from the interviews on MLB Tonight from yesterday, I find it really hard to believe that Buxton doesn't open the season with the Twins. I am also impatient sometimes when it comes to young guys, and I really want to see Buxton for the full season. I'm even hoping that he has a season that puts him up into the national conversations along with Correa, Bryant, and the other young guys who have seen immediate success.
  2. Oswaldo Arcia's 2 opposite field HRs off of lefties yesterday pretty much solidifies that Quentin is not making the team.
  3. I think Buxton is almost at 100% opening day center fielder, and about 75% that Ricky Nolasco is the #5 starter. Ryan said the other day on MLB Tonight that all five starters have a lot of experience. Molitor didn't give that big of a clue during his interview though.
  4. You didn't mention Ryan Pressly, who has been very good this spring and was good before his injury last year too. I'm guessing both he and Tonkin make the team, with Duffey (unfortunately) starting at Rochester.
  5. I don't think Ryan Sweeney can really play CF anymore. I would guess Danny Santana, but I'd rather see Rosario in center with Arcia in left. That would be a bad defensive outfield, but the lineup would be fun to watch. I think there's a really strong chance that Buxton opens the season with the Twins though.
  6. Reading the part about the plan of throwing more curveballs for strikes makes me think of hangers that end up a long way from home plate. Hopefully Duffey figures it out though, because he sure was fun to watch pitch last year.
  7. Does it though? It seems kind of random to me, as most bullpen guys are in the 7-8 range. Is there really that much of a difference between 7.8 and 8.3?
  8. It's just for spring training. 10 for facing MLB players, 8 for AAA, and on down to 1 for rookie ball. I don't know how useful it really is though.
  9. Those were impressive. That first one was off a pitch chest high and the second one went out just left of center. Wow. I really like the big leg kick too.
  10. 9 Ks in 5.1 innings for Phil Hughes? Is that right? If it is, I think that deserves a mention somewhere. Pretty good overall spring training day for the Twins today.
  11. I would be content with Seth's predicted line for Mauer. By the way, what went into the selection of the picture for this article? That's obviously not Joe's typical smooth swing.
  12. Or Kepler in RF and Sano at DH. I also think Arcia would be higher than Vargas on the DH depth chart.
  13. I think you're forgetting one season.
  14. Either Sweeney, Quentin, or Arcia is for sure going to be on the opening day roster. Two of those guys are over 30 and didn't play baseball last year. The other will be 24 on opening day and has great minor league numbers with some success in the majors. There's definitely a spot for him, and I think the choice is an easy one.
  15. Carlos Quentin is a basically a DH only. Sure he's a veteran presence off the bench, but who is he ever going to pinch hit for? He's not much of an upgrade with the bat over anyone who is going to start regularly. The case for him making the team makes very little sense to me.
  16. Milone has shown enough that he deserves to have a shot to start the season in the rotation. Nolasco still has a good chance of being the long guy in the bullpen, so I don't think I would be upset about that part yet. As for May, he seems like a good guy who gets it. I'm sure he has all the confidence in himself that he's better than those guys as a starter, but he also sees the value he can bring in the bullpen, and he'll just have to wait his turn to start.
  17. Roberto Osuna was closing out games as a 20 year old for the AL East champs last year, and he never pitched above high-A. I wouldn't be too worried about counting on Chargois and Burdi this year.
  18. Ryan seemed very impressed by his spring performance, plus he kind of emphasized how he would like to have a left hander in the rotation during the telecast tonight.
  19. I think the #5 spot is between Duffey and Nolasco. Milone is almost a sure bet to be in the rotation.
  20. I would expect Mauer to stay relatively healthy at 1B, but if he goes down, I'd assume Park goes to first full time, Sano plays more DH, and then Kepler might get his shot. Or maybe Arcia just increases his playing time and they call up Vargas. Either way, the Twins seem pretty committed to Sano in the outfield full time this year, so arguing for a scenario where Sano is at 1B (for this season) is pretty unrealistic.
  21. Well that's obviously not going to happen any time soon, so there's no real point in arguing for it.
  22. I don't think I've ever heard of a top 50 prospect, with minor league options remaining, and who has never played in AAA starting a season as a 4th outfielder. That seems like a poor development path.
  23. Why? They're prospects who need to play everyday, and the Twins don't have any available starting spots for them right now.
