  1. Fangraphs lists Dozier's range at .796. That puts him between Aybar and Reyes. Florimon at .757.
  2. Telling us it's thin is a way to prepare us for what we end up with...cause, you know, 'we'll be competing with so many other teams also looking for pitching and it's just such a thin market, teams are gonna overpay...and we just can't see doing that.'
  3. Q: Speaking of change, how has the Twins organization changed since you came aboard? A: "Our philosophies have always been pretty consistent. We try to promote within, not only the administrative part but obviously we believe in our farm system. Our philosophies haven't changed. We try to develop our own people. The changes that happen sometimes dictate. If you have a vacancy, you might have to get out there and play that free agent game. But other than that, we like to keep our own people. I don't think our philosophy has changed that much over the years. We really try to develop our own people." Hmmm.
  4. Yeah, I've been hoping for him for awhile now...
  5. Thanks for posting the info, it's cool to read...but their actions speak louder than their words. They know what the fans want to hear...let's see what they actually do
  6. You mean his 6th season at the age of 23, right? It's not like he's old. Didn't say he was old, did I? But there's no rule he has to be 24-27 before he's promoted is there? I'm trying to give the person who asked a good reason as to why he's dropped in the prospect rankings. I'm throwing out the possibility that maybe BA sees he was drafted in the first round 5 seasons ago still and he isn't ready for the majors according to his own team. In fact, he hasn't seen AAA yet. That might play a part into why he had dropped in the prospect rankings.
  7. That was HILARIOUS!!!!
  8. Our whole farm system, Willingham, Span, and future considerations... Really? I'm not sure that's true. yeah, you're right, that wouldn't be enough :-) my point is, I doubt we have player, or any combo of players, the Angels would want in exchange for a guy his age and with his talent
  9. Aaron Hicks is a 1st round pick...a 1st round pick that will be starting his 6th season in the minors. Maybe that has something to do with it.
  10. Our whole farm system, Willingham, Span, and future considerations...
  11. 'This year is another example of... make the playoffs and anything can happen... Making the playoffs should be the primary goal every year.' I thought winning the W Series should be the goal every year. We know we need serious pitching to handle the major offenses we face in the playoffs and we've lost our last 12 postseason games. Yes, anything can happen, but, um, that hasn't worked out well for us over the last decade...
  12. Some of those fired guys are still on the field as a major part of the coaching staff...
  13. SO it's okay to have the players looking over their shoulders all the time, but not the manager :-)
  14. Rogers center is a pretty neutral park, but their hitting coach preaches an aggressive approach to hitting. I hope Bruno does too.
  15. Unfortunately, the only one who has shown himself to have somewhat major league starter quality talent is going to be 39 before spring training starts next year and has spent most of his career as a utility man.
  16. They don't believe in personal catchers, except when they say Pavano pretty much has Butera as his catcher... Thanks for posting these, that's awesome. I'm not sure he wasn't full of it in at least a few of his responses...like the personal catcher thing. Another: 'As you have seen this year, we’re carrying 13 pitchers so pitching is the name of the game.' Yet, he keeps ignoring starting pitching. We needed to carry 13 pitchers because of that (and Gardy's interesting use of the bullpen).
  17. Nobody at all is complaining over the amount of pitchers taken. Not sure where you get that idea from if you follow the conversation. What I was saying is that upper management made a huge deal about how many pitchers they drafted this draft, and some fans are as well....as if it's a step away from the norm for the team. I was saying it really wasn't that far out of norm...barely over league average, a lesser percentage taken compared to the 2011 draft. In other words, they're throwing a lot of horse poo around...and some are buying it. and yeah, of course pitchers are drafted more than anyone else...on would think so based on rosters
  18. In 2011, 4 of our top 6 were pitchers. In 2012, 4 of our top 6 were pitchers. Same amount. In 2011, 6 of our first 10 picks were pitchers. In 2012, 7 of the first 10 picks were pitchers.
  19. And they drafted 11 more pitchers...so they still drafted heavier last year in the pitcher department.
  20. There were 630 pitchers drafted in the 2012 draft. That 22 more than all the other positions combined and an average of 21 pitchers per team. We drafted 24 pitchers...slightly above league average...and we drafted a lot of relievers, including two closers from the same college. Thing is, we drafted 35 pitchers in the 2011 MLB draft. So when listening to the Twins brag about how they really went pitching heavy in THIS draft, I was like, huh?
  21. Mauer's 88Ks this year is more than he's ever had. Fielder 84Ks is the least he's ever had. Fielder's 162 game average for Ks is 121, Mauer's is 72. Mauer averages 16 more walks than strikeouts over 162 games. Fielder averages 30 less walks than strikeouts over 162 games. Mauer's career BA is .323, Fielder's is .287. Mauer's career numbers with RISP are better than Fielder's career numbers with RISP Fielder has never been the best at his position. Fielder has never won a gold glove. Fielder has never won an MVP. Fielder has never won a batting title. One has primarily been a catcher for his career. One has planted his stone feet at 1B for his career. But Fielder, like most 1Bs, hits home runs.
  22. I believe it was Nantz, I'm not sure, but someone higher up in the organization a few months ago said he felt, without a doubt, the strength of our farm system was pitching...especially after the draft...but that they were quite a bit aways.
  23. I'm not against using the whole team, not at all; however, it's my belief that a team is better defensively and offensively when they are allowed to gel by knowing where they'll play and where they'll hit in the lineup. The combo of Whitaker and Trammell was about as effective in the middle IF, and as a double play combo, there ever was. Part of that was because they played so much together for so long. They knew each other's feeds at the pivot, they knew where the other would be on tough plays up the middle (like who would go for the ball, who would cover the bag if a force was possible at 2B) because they knew each other's range. Just a small sampling of the things you pick up as second nature when you play across from each other for so long. Go on the other side, a shortstop gets used to the range of his 3B and positions himself accordingly, then he has another another 3B he has to gauge then another. Or you have one guy who plays one position one day, then another the next and another the next. How is he gonna settle in? Cause all positions have their little intricacies. Our manager seems to think anyone can play anywhere and be expected to excel. Play a guy at 2B one day, then 3B the next, then 2B and move them all around. If you pick they best guys at each spot and play them there as much as possible, they can gel defensively and be a more cohesive defensive unit...
  24. excellent!
