  1. When would critics not be premature? I agree that Terry Ryan deserves more time but I would put out there that if he has not signed a starting pitcher to a guaranteed Major League contract by December 31 I would start thinking this offseason feels like a failure. It's not like Terry Ryan was away from the team when Smith was the GM...
  2. I would have been happy with Feldmen as a sleeper pick up, but when you pay a guy $6 million it kind of erases the UNDERRATED/SLEEPER label from your title. If the Twins pay a starter $6 million, he's probably going to be expected to 2-3 starter. 6 million isn't gonna get you a #2 or even a top notch #3. Have you not been following this team? The Twins annually wedge a $6 million pitcher into the 2 spot regardless of his actual talents. This team hasn't overpayed for pitching unless they wore a Twins uniform the previous year. Yes, I've been following this team...doesn't mean I'm gonna stop pointing out the idiocy of their actions
  3. I'm so sick of Twins apologists and statements like this, quit trying to be an armchair GM. IT'S A ONE YEAR FRICKING DEAL! I don't even care about Feldman specifically, but to justify passing on a player over $2-3 million on a ONE YEAR contract?!?! Come on!! Makes one wonder what kind of free agent pitcher you'd expect to be able to sign for 6M a year...

Sure, why not :-)

  6. We can keep consoling ourselves by saying this GM paid too much for that starter and that GM paid too much for that starter...until it finally clicks that the only way you sign anyone decent is by 'spending too much'...which turns into it really not being too much cause it's the amount needed to get the job done.
  7. with the way Gardy works his roster, it's not hard to understand why we haven't had a guy stick at shortstop or 2B. No one gets a chance to really get comfortable there. 'Guess that lineup' isn't conducive to position stability. We finally had a shortstop in Hardy, and Gardy wanted him gone. Smith traded him due to Gardy's wishes. Heck Gardy said even if Hardy stays, CASILLA would compete with Hardy for shortstop cause Casilla has speed and he liked his athleticism.
  8. We're not going to get ANY top-of-the-rotation types...
  9. The potential for awesomeness doesn't equate to immediate awesomeness. So yet another high draft pick we'll wait 5 of more years for...and everyone seems okay with that. Five years? Three to four for a highschooler is completely normal, dude. Some are saying he's still 3-4 years out, minimum...

  11. Realistically: he should start 2013 in low-A, finish 2013 in A+, then start 2014 in A+ with a shot to finish in AA or higher. That didn't really answer my question...
  12. The main reason they decided to move Hamilton to the OF was because they have Cozart and Didi Gregorius.
  13. why are so many fans completely content to say a pitcher drafted as high as Berrios was will take 4 or more years in the minors to make it to the show? If he's as awesome as so many claim, why take that long?
  14. 'I don't get the point of trading Span and getting Billy Hamilton back. It's a sideways move and the Twins already have a center field logjam. I'd want a middle infielder instead.' Hamilton is a shortstop...they are moving him to OF, but he's played 311 games at shortstop, 50 or so at 2B and zero in the OF. We wouldn't have to have him in the OF...and y'all know how much Gardy loves speedy middle IFs...
  15. Pelfrey, Jurrjens, Hunter, Stewart,
  16. Oh, so now you're saying they're spending too much and really going out of their way for payroll? Everyone should be thrilled with what they spend and feel lucky we have such generous owners? No, but thanks for playing. That is exactly what your post implied...
  17. Players who were signed when they were 19 or older and have played in professional baseball for four years are eligible, as are players who were signed at 18 and have played for five years.

  19. 'Are you the Chief of the Department of Redundancy?' That's only funny if you add 'Department' at the end.
  20. In no way should a pitcher who was a rookie last year, and who posted a 2nd half ERA of 4.31, be considered any kind of Ace. He's a decent #3. But he's the best we got, which is sad.
  21. I wasn't referring to Gardy or the players...
  22. I think EVERYONE would prefer something real...have you seen something happen the rest of us missed?
  23. Everyone seems to believe that winning is their goal...and by winning, I mean really winning...playoff bound and a true W Series contender. I believe their goal is to maximize profits. I don't think ownership gives a rat's behind about winning or losing...just about money. So they'll slap a team together, hoping they get a few more wins and are competitive in the division, so attendance doesn't drop any lower than last year, or gets a bit better, and that's that.
  24. 'As for the "quit fooling ourselves" part, I suspect his bosses would have had a problem with him saying such a thing when they were lobbying for a new stadium a few years back. At that time, ownership was indeed contending that their existing stadium situation put them at a financial disadvantage... making money certainly a big part of "the answer." So were the Twins fooling themselves then? Or were they fooling their fans... and local taxpayers?' As soon as Ryan said that whole quit fooling ourselves statement about money, a reporter with some nads should have asked him why a new stadium was needed then. Cause you're right, that's exactly what they told us, and now they said spending isn't the answer.
