  1. we'll continue to carry three catchers as long as we have two catchers who carry bats potent enough to want in the lineup together as much as possible by slotting them at DH or 1B or wherever Gardy's crystal ball says they should play if they aren't playing catcher. It's an issue created by having two catchers who can also hit very well. It's still not a reason to carry three catchers, cause at worse, one happens to be at DH when the other is hurt catching and we have the pitcher bat a whole 2, 3 times in that game before another catcher can be recalled for the next game. If Doumit wasn't on the team, or was just the DH, and Butera (or someone like him offensively) was the #2 catcher, we'd only need two catchers.
  2. No Berrios isn't Kershaw or Felix, but when those two were that young, did everyone know they'd turn out exactly how they did? I wonder who people were saying those two weren't when they were that young... Berrios' numbers in rookie ball were better than Kershaw's...arguably better than King Felix's...at least stat-line wise. We could really have something here.
  3. Not only that, but they seem to not even take into account how losing the #1 and #2 batters last year will hurt the team this year...or they gloss over it at best.
  4. Hey, if Doumit and Mauer are both in the lineup (one at DH and one a catcher), and the one catching gets hurt, we'd have to move the one DHing to catcher, forcing the pitcher hit to hit a whole 2, 3 times for one whole game before another catcher got recalled. Could be the difference between a playoff spot and missing the playoffs :-)
  5. Personally, I'd grade this offseason a C-. For 2013, it's a D-/F. We've downgraded OF defense and our offense took a hit losing #1 and #2 batters. Pitching is a bunch of question marks, no certain quality in any starter we have. No #1s, no #2s. For 2014, there is POTENTIAL to have May and Meyer come up at some point and have at least one be worthwhile in that time. So C+ for 2014 For 2015 and beyond, maybe a B or higher if May and Meyer both turn out and Worley is still with us and performing like many think he will Worley is still a big question mark. Hasn't pitched more than 135 innings in a season yet, had some injury issues, not sure I can say he's a #3 guy. He's still a big question mark
  6. There's been no evidence to suggest that payroll has been directed at where it is, especially not 65M since payroll sits an 80M now. I'm also not criticizing everyone's opinion, I'm asking why they gave the grades they did. I value Seth and John's opinions, so I'm asking them why they graded they way they did. Asking what I am missing? In other words, just talking. I'm not saying they are wrong, asking WHY they are grading the way they are isn't criticizing.
  7. That horse has been beaten so hard, there's only remnants of hair left Johnny :-)
  8. I believe I do...on this thread in fact. Do they all look like snide half sentences? Most of my posts are just conversations back and forth. How many have you read, or are you just saying this cause you are ticked off about my response to you saying this offseason could potentially grade out at an A+?
  9. Okay but you said the moves made this offseason, you'd grade out and A- starting in 2014. Sure some internal players come up in 2013/2014, but that doesn't have much to do with the moves made this year to boost us up to an A- in 2014...just May and Meyer (if they come up). Even if Span and Revere had stayed, Hicks was gonna come up anyway, Arcia likely was too. What other things do you see happening as a result from the moves made this offseason in the form of trades and FA pick ups that would grade 2014 so high? Worley and Correia are here now...which you give a low grade for...so what bumps it up to an A- for 2014 that had to do with trades and FA signings? I guess my question is this: Pelrey, Correia, Worley, Harden rate a D, but Worley, Correia along with MAYBE May and Meyer, some time in 2014, rate an A for 2014? I'm trying to understand...not being sarcastic. Trying to understand how moves so far this year could rate 2014 an A.. And although I like the optimism, I don't see how we're really competing in 2015. I'd be interested in your views as to why you think we would.
  10. Yeah, I don't know how one can project moves this year making 2014 any variation of an A grade.
  11. You lost me at A+...
  12. Or even the health history of the guys newly plugged into the rotation themselves...
  13. Moves for 2014 would include two moves that affect us for 2013, Worley and Correia, and then Meyer and May. Are you expecting Meyer and May to be up with us the start of 2014? If so, why? Additionally, are you expecting them to both be very good right out the gate to give an A- starting in 2014?

  15. 'more question marks than an interrogation.' That's funny!
  16. Are you saying that, as a rule, most teams do that? There's 4 days off in April this year. 26 games played. 8 days straight, 6 games straight, 5 games straight, and 6 games straight. Only two days off in May. 29 games in May, including streaks of 13 and 15 games straight. 6 days off the first two months. And he said skip a starter for awhile, wasn't specific to a couple rounds.
  17. 'Mark Buehrle has been linked to half the teams in baseball, but Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Marlins, Nationals, Rangers, and Twins are the teams known to have made the free agent left-hander a contract offer. Rosenthal writes that Minnesota’s offer is “not as strong” as the others, which he says are for three years and $36-$39 million. So the Twins offer was less than the other teams' that offered between 36-39M. I'm reading that correctly right? http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/05/marlins-nationals-rangers-and-twins-make-offers-to-mark-buehrle/
  18. Even if Gardy was inclined to skip a starter, it's unlikely to happen at the beginning of the season when it's early and colder. Our pitchers have even lower pitch counts than normal during the first month, not gonna skip a starter.
  19. So you disagree with the importance of the issue, but felt the need to chime in anyway, and respond back making a snide comment to me. Okay. I just have a hard time reading the quotes and seeing a demand..or even GARDY himself saying he was adamant or demanding. I also find it unbelievable he'd be demanding anything considering he doesn't have a contract for next year and Ryan fired or re-assigned practically his whole staff. Gardy is in no position to demand anything. If anything, I'm defending Ryan here...but continue on your quest to defend the front office in all those other threads...
  20. Yeah, sure I am. Again, here's the actual quote where the supposed 'demand' took place: "You know that (Darin Mastroianni) can probably do it," Gardenhire said on 1500 ESPN's Talkin' Twins Show Monday night. "But as I told Terry, when all these things were going on -- Span and then Revere -- we talked about it, if he trades this guy, what are you going to do here? ... If he trades both of them, what are you going to do?" The one thing I asked Terry, I just want to make sure that Aaron Hicks has the opportunity to come into spring training -- if we trade Span, and we end up trading Revere too, and this was (said) way before (those trades) -- I said I want the opportunity to give him a shot at my centerfield job." He said, 'asked' 'The one thing I ASKED Terry....' followed by 'want the opportunity to give him a shot at my centerfield job'. Where's the demand? I don't believe in giving Gardy points for cojones with Ryan when he doesn't deserve them.
  21. Not playing anything..doesn't sound like a demand. Sounds less like a demand when Ryan already said Maestro, Benson and Hicks would all be given a shot for the CF job. It's like a husband telling a wife, 'I demand you give me the last piece of pie.' to which the wife replies, ' You already HAVE the last piece of pie on your plate with your fork in it.' Besides, it's the reporter who wrote 'adamant'...Here's the quote: "You know that (Darin Mastroianni) can probably do it," Gardenhire said on 1500 ESPN's Talkin' Twins Show Monday night. "But as I told Terry, when all these things were going on -- Span and then Revere -- we talked about it, if he trades this guy, what are you going to do here? ... If he trades both of them, what are you going to do?" He said, 'asked' 'The one thing I ASKED Terry....' followed by 'want the opportunity to give him a shot at my centerfield job'. Where's the demand? In any event, the point is, Hicks has almost no chance to make the team out of ST for business reasons. Remember when we had a three way battle for CF with Span, Gomez and I forget the other guy's name? When Gomez was announced 'the winner' Span had outperformed him.
  22. That was funny...you get a like, Sir
  23. No, what you said was, 'Hillarious how people bitch and moan about not signing any good free agent pitchers and then this Saunders rumor comes back around and those same people are saying that they wouln't go 3-years for him. ' And I'm saying, seems there are quite a few people who were, as you say, 'bitch and moan about not signing any good free agent pitchers' who seem fine with the 3 year move. As your post read, it seemed like you were saying all the ones complaining before are now hesistant to give 3 years...you know, 'those same people' That's not the case. Perhaps you mean some people?
  24. I'm not sure I could stretch anything in there to be deemed a demand, but thanks again for the links. Ryan had already said Hicks would be in the mix for the job...whether or not what he said was true or not (unlikely) is another matter, but it's not like Ryan was telling everyone no chance Hicks gets the job and then Gardy stood up and said I DEMAND he gets a fair shot.
  25. You're sure they are the same people? Cause I'm all for getting him
