  1. This is interesting. I've got 6 balls sitting here next to me that I got that were hit over the fences. I use a Magic Erasers and they clean up real nice most of the time. So I looked them over, and all 6 are official Rawlings MLB baseballs, and have the Killebrew MLB logo on them. But one ball has Practice stenciled just below that logo. And that ball has higher seams than the other 5. Must be some cheaper balls mixed in with the bunch for spring training.
  2. If you meant TR, I was right behind you. I did the same yesterday for half hour or so. Did you see that line shot that left the park in a flash by Vargas? He got a fist pump from TR after the game for that. Trevor May walked to many today in that game. AA probably beat the AAA squad.
  3. I care. And in talking with the top man this morning, Escobar most likely will be playing somewhere.
  4. Morneau was just trying to be a peace maker, and didn't get involved. So many times it's the peace maker that gets hurt though. But he didn't and is fine.
  5. I was informed today that Gibson has already been told he's going to Rochester.
  6. I wouldn't call Kepler a big boy. He's not thick like Sano and Vargas. He's tall is about it. Hicks is much the same build as Max. There's certainly alot of guys down here with large arms! An arm wrestling tourney would be a site to behold. So the pitchers worked and worked and worked on the pickoff play to 2nd today. And my buddy who was at the game the other days says, all the work, and Hermsen throws it out into centerfield. And they will continue to work on that all year. That was on the half field. So after that, the pitchers go to field 2 and are joined by the position players. Now the pitchers throw back to 2nd with a runner on base and off the bag, and they work the rundown. The coaches had to tell Buxton to take it easy, he was really making them work to get him. So he tamed it down. But what I didn't get was that they always made the putout at 3rd. Not the way I was taught it. One of the last runners had the ball hit him on top of the helmet, and it rolled out into the road. I asked one of the coaches about it after and he said all they were doing is trying to get the runner out, an out is an out. Seems to me that out would be better tried while running the runner back to 2nd. Seemed strange.
  7. Saw something interesting today at the minor league complex. Reps are there from Wilson with gloves, and xbats. Buxton took quite awhile and then picked out a bat. The rep had him sign 3x5 cards. Three of them. As he said, the signature gets better every time. Theyll use this signature on his bats.
  8. Oh I agree. It was just a hypothetical .230. The buck eighty would never come about, since he can't be in two places at once, is all I meant.
  9. Max Kepler is a great young fellow. It looks like he's quit growing and is maturing. He's got a nice swing, and is learning the k zone. He's good defensively. I can see him at CR for the entire year, and think he'll just keep improving. I see no sense in hurrying him along. He'll get there.
  10. The kid looks like he'a about 15 years old. I didn't realize he couldn't speak any English, but did have him autograph a ball for me, as did a few others. He was smiling and very cordial. Can't help but pull for the kid. Edit to add: The most swagger I've seen down here was from The Real Deal and Valencia. Good thing they don't ski.
  11. You can't be serious about the buck eighty. The "discouragement" or "disappointment" or whatever you care to call it is well known by the team. There's no one that makes that long walk to the minor league camp that's excited about it. Having been here in spring training since the Twins started here, yes, "I've seen it quite a few times". I've even made part of the walk with a couple players. I just tell them to hang in there, I've seen it before, and I'll see them in Minnesota in a month or two. The last two were Span, and then Plouffe. Sometimes the reasons have been what you've stated. Sometimes other reasons. At times the FO has backed themselves into a corner to play a player, ie Nishioka. TK really liked to bring guys like Reboulet up. Gardy does the same. Once in awhile I think it's just a test, lol. TK did admit he brought up Torri Hunter way to soon, and it took awhile but Torri caught up. I guess we'll know here in a few weeks what's shakin'.
  12. I've seen quite a few times a late cut heads to AAA that really could have made the team, and the discouragement linger for a month or so. What if Hicks goes down for the month so many want him to,and hits in the .230 range. Kind of hard to bring him up then. If he continues to have a good spring, bring him north. That doesn't take a dime out of my wallet, and perhaps going to a game or two would.
  13. Given that he's not needed til April 10th, there's a little over 3 weeks. It'll be close.
  14. Ok, I can understand that route. I'd just like us to start with the rotation that gives us the best chance to win games now. Like I said, if there are no injuries, AAA will have a real solid rotation. I just don't want to be giving games away early to fall back and have an excuse for trading off Morneau and Willingham mid season.
  15. Why do you guarantee Gibson starting at Rochester? And if he has to fill in for Pelfrey, why not fill in for DeVries or Hendriks also?
  16. Last year was the perfect storm, with the entire rotation going down. Could it be this year is the opposite? If so, we probably had in house options better than the off season signings. But to much pitching is never a bad thing. TR had to get some arms in camp. So far, so good, with about 3 weeks left, as far as injuries go. We could possibly make it to the season with no injuries. And that will make it real interesting for Gardy. Diamond will be in the rotation but we won't need him for a couple of weeks the way the schedule is set up. I'd start the season with Gibson in the rotation, granted his innings will be limited, but why not start the season with him with a 0-0 record, than bring him up later when we trail in the standings. Worley, Corriea and Pelfrey should round it out. That leaves no room for Hendriks, DeVries or Duduno. If any of those 3 have a very solid spring, TR has to make the call. I like DeVries attitude, why not view it as his job to lose. Hendriks probably feels the same way. And in the long run I think Dedunno will have a better career than either of those two. Hopefully the decisions aren't make any easier with injuries. AAA should have a very nice rotation this year.
  17. I've seen you around AJ. I'm usually with a few Minnesotans' of which a couple are heavy into getting cards signed. Not me, but I enjoy watching. I'll make sure to say hello again. And good luck, have fun!
  18. Yes, you can wander all over. If tueday is an off day, the Twins won't be around. But the ml will. There is also a women's college softball tourney going on at the softball fields. 4 fields with home plate in a hub, so easy to watch any game by taking a few steps. The night game they will start practice probably around 4:30 or so. Away friday the Twins will practice from 9-11 am. They always practice on game days, at 9. Parking is the only charge. One tip = enter the grounds off of Plantation Road, not Six Mile Cypress. On game days they will try to direct you to a parking location. Don't go there, just point left, and go park near the curve in the drive. You'll be parked right by the minor league fields. Easy to get out there too. Best to park 30 feet at least up from the road though, as you wouldn't want a Sano or Arcia ball go windshield on you.
  19. No way would I sign Thome. Nice guy and all, but he's done, and would just hurt us. He singles and there goes another bench spot with the pinch runner. Boggs or Colabello, maybe even Benson would be better. Hopefully we'll be in positions enough this year where Gardy will have some options to win or tie the games. Thome maybe would help 20% of the time. We've got to do better than that.
  20. Right, parking is now $10 on game days. The gates open around 6:30. They start charging for parking before 9. Alot of good advise in the previous posts. By the time you get here the minor league camp will be open. There'll be practicing on all the fields, but the field next to the stadium is for the Twins. I'm not sure what date the minor league games start, but they should be going on when you are here. Also, keep an eye and ear out for Twins "b" games. They schedule those once in awhile, and are at the minor league fields. Nothing like watching major leaguers play that close up. I wouldn't buy tickets before hand. So far this year you can get tickets for $8 or less for every game so far on Stub Hub. You'll need a printer and can get one for under 30 at Walmart. Carew left yesterday. Molitor is soft spoken but if you can hear him giving instructions, it's very interesting. TK will be at the minors, and you can hear him everywhere. He really knows his stuff. If you're after autographs respond. Most people down here and those that have been here for years asked me how. I seem to know the best way, which isn't obvious to most people, and it's really simple. See you here!
  21. That's right. He'll play right also while those guys are gone. I can see Dinkleman getting alot of time at first during that stretch. Also, they've worked Dinkleman at all the infield positions this spring. That's a plus in his favor, which he admits.
  22. I asked Darin today about playing 2nd base. He played there in college. He said he'd played a little second in the minors and about a half dozen games at AAA. It's not for him. He said the other guys were so much better than he is. So that settles one thought I'd had.
  23. Justin Morneau first, and then Mauer.
  24. I'd have gone to the game, but things at Jet Blue Park are so much different than Hammond Stadium. No one is allowed into the B game today. Seems to be alot of that over there, which leaves alot of Sox fans coming to Hammond, not thrilling us Twins fans. They come with their Sox jerseys and caps, and push to get Twins autographs. That seems to be the norm for those NE'ers. The weather today is much like yesterday, cool, cloudy and still. We'll see if the Twins bats remain hot.
  25. Looks like the cooler, cloudy day with almost now wind woke up the bats. Or the Phillies were good at hitting them. Anyway, encouraging seeing all that hitting today. I'd say the hitters have caught up with the pitchers this spring.
