  1. Not too worried about the finger. A break is a break. Its not hard to see the wrist and brain things recurring though.
  2. Re: 25th man roster tweet. "No I don't regret that tweet. Its the 25th man on the roster. The Manager wanted Jason Bartlett, he got Jason Bartlett. And the fact that Jason came north with the team frankly did not have a significant impact on the success or lack of success of the 2014 Twins."
  3. LOL Turn captions on @2:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=JeogSBoMM8M#t=160
  4. I mean, Madden's a Hall of Fame coach. What more is there to say. The guy had a 20 year series of video games made after him. http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20081022035028/egamia/images/0/0d/Madden90SNES.jpg
  5. What's the scoring environment like in the AFL? Is it a hitters league?
  6. "Ananymous" is a good word for Thielbar.
  7. Yeah. And if they wind up hiring internally then really, what's the rush? Molitor already knows the system, the major leaguers and personnel.. Any rush would be so an outside hire could field a staff and get acquainted with the Twins, no? The prospect of that must be diminishing by the day.
  8. What prompted the move? Was it Harrison's play or the overabundance of 3B options (Goodrum, Meija, Michael, etc). Does he have the glove to move back if the spot opens up again?
  9. If GM's projected Wil Myers to go down a borderline HoF career track then the fan perspective is much more grounded in reality. You're also making light of the fact that somehow, even without Wil Myers, the Royals have arguably the best defensive outfield of all time - and decent bats too. That's another reason why the Buxton = Myers equation doesn't work (but I understand why he's the only spec you can use for purposes of the hypothetical). The Twins aren't nearly as loaded with outfielders.
  10. I'd make that trade. If, like the Royals trade, it puts the Twins in a position to improve by 15 games in year 1 - in contention through the last week of the season, followed by a wild card berth in year 2, and be left with a similarly strong core and strong farm system in place (and at least 1 comp pick coming)... yes, absolutely I make that trade.
  11. That's not really the comparison I'm trying to make. I'm comparing the "core" prospects aka. Rule 4 draftees to the amateur free agents aka. Latins within each system. The Royals and Twins systems are similar in that to date, the Latins have matched, maybe exceeded, the domestic talents. At some point we have to move from "sometimes top prospects take time" to "we got our rankings wrong."
  12. Maybe the industry is just biased. We all assumed Hosmer, Moustakas, Butler, and Gordon would emerge to form the Royals core. But only Gordon was worth more than 1 WAR this year. Instead, its been every bit as much the Latins - Perez, Escobar, Herrera, and Ventura who have brought that team to the promised land. Its not hard to see the Twins future playing out similarly. We've already seen top 10 guys - Hicks, Gibson, Wimmers, and Hendriks, stall if not bust. Meanwhile a crop of Latins has come up and produced pretty much from the word go.
  13. Hicks 1-2 (single) with 2 walks yesterday. http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?gid=2014_10_16_leowin_marwin_1&t=g_box&sid=l135
  14. A few days old but Darren WolfsonVerified account ‏@DarrenWolfson The #MNTwins have spoken w/ Cuban FA OF Yasmany Tomas' camp as recently as Monday. Clear they like him. Problem: so do about 10 other teams.
  15. Actually, by WAR, KC has more production from trade acquisitions than Rule 4 draftees
  16. Anyone know if Hicks is going to Venezuela this winter?
  17. He's been around forever and we still don't know what he is, where he fits
  18. I hold out hope that a fresh start with a new manager will benefit Hicks. By the end of last season it seemed clear to me that, fairly or unfaily, he was in the doghouse.
  19. I'd peg Hicks upside at Desmond Jennings. Walk rate around 9%, strikeouts around 25%, not a lot of pop, good baserunning. Average defense in Center but above average in a corner. Never an all star, but an acceptable .725 player at the bottom of the lineup.
  20. One problem I see with "timing" is that the core we all envision might not be the core we'll end up with. Example. According to this top 22 list written 3 years ago, the Twins best prospects were: 10: Kepler 9: Salcedo 8: Bullock 7: Arcia 6: Revere 5: Hendriks 4: Sano 3: Hicks 2: Wimmers 1: Gibson Flash forward to 2014 and the best players were Brian Dozier, Trevor Plouffe, Danny Santana, Revere, Arcia, Gibson, Pinto, and Kennys Vargas - only 3 of whom ranked in the top 22 of this particular prospect list. I'm curious - has anyone gathered the various BA, MLB.com, minorleagueball.com prospect lists over the years and determined how accurate they are? Who the most accurate forecasters are? Trends? (ie. are certain types consistently overvalued or undervalued?) Has anyone considered the possibility that the new core is here already?
  21. I'm as big a Mauer bobo there is but he has to come back stronger next season. There are too many other good options for 1B.
  22. I generally agree with that reasoning but Plouffe has burned his backers before. Between his age, recent production, years of control, I suspect his stock is at a high water mark and is more likely to nosedive than continue rising. Also, Escobar's cut out perfectly to be the bridge to Sano IMO. There isn't room at DH-1B for Sano to get regular playing time. He'll have to play third to get regular at bats.
