  1. I look at the Darvish posting differently. IMO one team was in the ballpark in their valuation (Texas) and everyone else was way off
  2. Lose their job? They secured an outstanding pitcher for a good price. The more I think about Tanaka, I can't imagine why any team wouldn't be interested in him. He's arguably the most talented pitcher in the class but carries the bonus of being 2 years younger than anyone except Hughes. He's young enough to appeal to rebuilders and for the heavy hitters, posting fees don't count against the luxury tax (for the moment anyway). No, I don't like the Twins chances at all. Maybe the guy we should be watching is Kenta Maeda. His stuff isn't expected to translate as well, lower velocities across the board, but he gets very good results. Only problem is, the general opinion seems to be there's a <50% chance he posts this year.
  3. I suspect your first guess is still on the low end. Tanaka might not be as talented as Darvish but I suspect he is the best talent available this offseason. He will cost the most. I think we're talking something between Anibal and Greinke type money.
  4. Interesting report. I would have liked to hear what Tanaka's actual x-z pitch movement is but the comps are helpful in a roundabout way I guess. And if they are accurate,' then I don't know how you can conclude anything but excitement over this guy's talent. Haren's splitter is an excellent pitch. Samardzija's slider is a good pitch. His fastball isn't going to blow many guys away but that's not Tanaka's game. He throws less than 40% fastballs. So his game is junk, and his junk pitches are solid.
  5. I was a little surprised to see that Buxton will be the 4th BA player of the year to play for the Twins since 2000. The others: Jon Rauch Joe Mauer Delmon Young
  6. This is my thought as well. I was somewhat surprised to read an interview with Jim Pohlad a few weeks ago where he predicated some comment with a casual "obviously we're bringing Ryan back next year." As you say, given the ownership Ryan has taken for the losses (at least publicly), I think they would have a hard time not bringing Gardy back another year at least. edit: here is the exact quote from Sid's interview: Hartman: Pohlad expects better times ahead for Twins | Star Tribune
  7. I can't help you there, I just upgraded to a flip phone http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa194/sapipa177/My%20Phones/MotorolaOldFlipPhone.jpg
  8. Is it this guy? http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Ron-Gardenhire-Mets-2010-Manager-Of-The-Year-1982-Topps-Traded-Rookie-Card-39T-/00/s/NzM4WDU2Mg==/z/EGYAAOxy14VRLGtF/$T2eC16hHJFoE9nh6qTPpBRLGtEv6Gg~~60_35.JPG
  9. The shear number of bad throws continues to astound me. Underthrowing, overthrowing, at the knees, at the back shoulder. Its pretty rare that you see him throw the ball on a line and hit a guy in the numbers in stride, and I can't recall a single strong throw, much less an accurate one, with Ponder rolling to his left (that needs to end, IMO).
  10. Its pretty well accepted at this point that in order to prolong your starting pitchers' careers you want to give them 4 days rest at minimum and keep them on a 100 pitch count limit. In your opinion, should there be a similar rule for relievers, (or is there one already)?
  11. Colabello Comeback Killer
  12. In case you're wondering how that spirited conversion between Correia and Anderson went, I got a transcription of it. Correia: I mean its like, give it to me straight, blue! Anderson: Yep Correia: Like a pear cider made from 100% pears Anderson: Yeah. Wait, wha- Correia: If you're going to grant time to the guy, then give him time before I get to my dang follow through. Anderson: Yep Correia: Don't waffle about it back there. Make a decision and go with it! Anderson: Yeah
  13. Flagged Urban Dictionary: cheeseburger (4th one down)
  14. The comeback has just begun!

  17. He has to climb all the way up too? I would think he has earned more than just the tip after all that.
  18. Well if its Chinese, he's bringing it on a bike, am I right? He will want a an ice cold beer. So it seems to me you have no choice but to put on a skimpy outfit and invite him in for a breather.
  19. I like where this is going
  20. Hrm. Turns out the Jays don't need Joey Bats to wail on Twins pitching. Go figure
