  1. IIRC Denard and Revere both played fairly deep as Twins players, as Hicks did and Puckett did before him (I believe Hunter did too). Also, this Denard could have been referring to anything here. But, its quotes like this, combined with my memory of him playing fairly deep as a Twin that suggests to me that outfield positioning is being ordered by the coaches, in which case it would be one calculation they seem to be getting right.
  2. The Twins usually field a (defensively) talented center fielder. They also like to place that CFer pretty deep. Does it work? Does Playing Shallow Work? | Articles | Bill James Online
  3. I would love to see the Twins abandon the 5 man rotation though, in these last few weeks, since the jury is pretty much in on Hendriks. There is no one else to really look at. No call ups, not Meyer and May. Maybe the scrubs that are here can figure out some kind of pecking order as a bullpen-by-committee
  4. Question: Has Swarzak turned some kind of corner? Has he added another pitch or figured something out? As I see it, there are two reasons we don't need to entertain the Swarzak as starter idea. First, we already have 146 innings to draw from. Not a huge sample, but he was not any better than what we have going already. And I would rather have a good long man than another one of those guys. Second, as a reliever Swarzak is outperforming his peripherals by nearly a full run. Then there is the Rule of 17 to think about, which predicts on average, another full run penalty. That puts him at around a 5.00 ERA "true" talent starter, which is not too far off from what he put up in those 146 innings in 2009-2012 as a spot starter.
  5. Its almost as if we're either on something or onto something here
  6. I go back and forth. On one hand, an automated strike caller would purify the competition between pitcher and batter. On the other hand, since framing appears to be a real thing, a repeatable skill, then its another little thing to keep me as a viewer engaged in games.
  7. I like Arcia more than any of the rookies. The pop is there - he has more home runs at TF (7) than any lefthander except Justin Morneau (9) but he's done it in 200 fewer PAs. He has the most "no doubt" home runs at TF (2). But he's only connecting on 70% of his swings. That number will go up as he gains better plate discipline, I think, and the home runs and hits will follow. I think we're looking at a .900 hitter in 2015.

RB: (breathes deeply) Are they legal? Winston Smith: In Canada RB (Puts sunglasses back on) I see nothing
  9. Carnac: Shock and Awe Ed: Shock and Awe Carnac: Yes, give me the envelope Ed: ... Carnac: Twins fans after a scoreless inning in Chicago
  10. For Halloween I'm going to dress up as a ratty old dart board and go as the outfield seats at Comiskey when the Twins come to town
  11. So, if teabagging is ... teabagging, then this would be... suitcasing?
  12. I wonder if the umpires are looking at the same loop as FSN, with Prestley jumping and catching the ball 5 seconds after it bounced off the railing.
  13. It was a save situation
  14. I'm afraid you're mistaken. That's Dave St Peter at a season ticket holder meeting
  15. For Halloween I'm going to dress up as a carousel and go as the White Sox lineup during a Liam Hendriks start
  16. Yeah, Hendriks really Mendonca'd that inning
  17. "Ducks on the pond" as Hawk would say
  18. Did you tell them the dogs don't have to pay admission?
  19. Just four or five more runs and we should get that double play ball
  20. Pinto sure does a lot of dancing back there so as not to tip which side of the plate he's setting up. I wonder if it might be better to just sit down and let the pitcher look at his target before he starts his throw.
  21. Between all of Hendriks foul balls and it being Dog Night at Comiskey, must be pandemonium at that place right now
  22. That's not a lineup, that's a halloween costume
  23. I woud like to chime in as a former lurker of the game threads who has started posting to many of them this year - could not find a more affable group of people. By all means, take the plunge and stop lurking, we give out likes like they are going out of fashion.
  24. I realize he's probably not the best or most deserving person for the job but if they are going to promote from within, I'd kind of like to see how Mientkewicz would do.
  25. This is very debatable, given what we know about the attrition rate of prospects. You could just as easily (more easily, maybe) be waiting for a window that will never open.
