  1. He is a top 10 player at his position, thus it seems reasonable that other teams might pay a fair price for his services. Fair, not lopsided. I don't know how you inferred that.
  2. I don't know what Ryan was thinking when he signed Duensing or Stauffer or Nunez again. Or why he refuses to let a marginal Rule 25 pick go. Somehow the team is winning in spite of those boneheaded moves. I'll settle on 84 wins.
  3. Oh, right. Loserville, USA. None of our players are worth anything, woe is me, etc. Is it so far fetched that one of our better players might, hypotethically, return someone interesting at a position of need? I guess I didn't get that memo.
  4. I wouldn't actively shop him but I'd be really curious to see what he could fetch. A young catcher who can frame and hit would fit in nicely I think. Not so much interested in more 30+ year old starters at this point, even Hamels.
  5. We've seen a few RH batters put balls in the 3rd deck in left. Any idea how hard/high/far a ball would have to be hit to go over the 3rd deck and out of the park?
  6. I'd add that when you consider the guys with some ceiling left - Santana, Arcia, Mauer, Vargas, possibly Escobar it seems very possible that they keep scoring all year. Only Dozier is really batting over his head right now.
  7. Extreme "clutchness" I think. Last year the team was below average at scoring runners from 3rd with less than two outs (46% IIRC). This year they're scoring them at a ~60% clip which is among the best in baseball. They're batting .743 with men on and .666 with bases empty. .1.062 with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs. .793 with RISP, compared to .700 overall. The Cardinals coasted on great numbers with RISP well into June last year. Looks like maybe the Twins number came up this year (finally).
  8. In that scenario, ideally, we're the ones getting several years of solid production out of a legit MLB player for a top prospect who never materializes into anything (or takes a looong time to materialize into... something).
  9. I got you all beat, I had him #1 in mine http://twinsdaily.co...op-100-prospects
  10. The problem, IMO, is that if the Twins keep Plouffe and Sano and Mauer then they will have to move someone off their natural position. Since we're talking about the Twins, that will be the low man on the totem pole - Sano. Therefore, he should be getting reps in the outfield in the minors and not have on the job, MLB-level training, no?
  11. Among 110 qualified starters, Phil Hughes is 5th in SO/BB ratio. Pelfrey and Gibson rank 109 and 110th.
  12. The full-time DH is underrated IMO. A lot of guys can't hit unless they're in the field. The White Sox make this mistake every 4 years when they bring in some bruiser from the NL who is used to playing everyday and then slot him at DH. It's not always that easy.
  13. Personally I haven't recognized any clear patterns, outside of 3-0 counts, where players repeat predictable swing/take behaviors, have you? (insert Mauer on first pitch joke here)
  14. The other thing is, ERA is not a stat I would use for predictive value at almost any level. In 34 innings I'd be much more curious to read about K-rate. Unfortunately that's almost never available. Similarly if a kid is ripping 10 bombs or more in a 25 high school season, that's worth taking notice of IMO.
  15. I agree to an extent although I still want to know what they are if they're available. That was actually the wrong link. This is the one I meant to post http://usatodayhss.com/2015/all-usa-watch-cameron-has-been-dazzling-at-the-plate-and-in-the-field
  16. IIRC Alex Jackson, the consensus best prep bat in last year's class, finished with around 10 HRs and a ~.550 BA in probably a more competitive HS conference in CA (versus GA - I'm just guessing tho).
  17. According to this, he was batting .438 with 8 HRs and 19 SBs through a 25 game season. http://highschoolsports.blog.ajc.com/2015/05/05/baseball-draws-elca-kings-ridge-rematch-comes-early/ If you look at the preseason team link, they have his 2014 numbers which were .390 with six home runs as a junior.
  18. I've never actually tried to get an autograph but according to the Twins' website:
  19. Based on the info. I've heard, about BP and now from Vargas talking to Phil Miller, the Twins message to Vargas seems to be, "work on the long ball, just not in BP. Only in games." ?
  20. My preseason prediciton is the same every year: the Twins will finish somewhere between last and WS winners, so I will stick with that. The Twins finished 14-14 in their stretch of 28/35 games inside the division. That was better than I expected and gives them a good shot at staying relevant for a while yet (knock on wood, sign of the cross, etc).
  21. Huh, well then I am truly at a loss.
  22. I'm trying to make sense of this move and this is the best I can come up with. The Twins will return to AL play on May 22. Arcia will be available to come off the DL by that point. They could ease Arcia into regular playing time by slotting him at DH while giving Rosario an extended look and continuing to play Escobar everyday in left.
