  1. They're up 17 with 6 to play and I'm still wondering how they blow this.
  2. The scary part is we're still only 3.5 games out of the playoffs right now, thanks to how top heavy the West is.
  3. Dodger Stadium is a better homerun park than Target Field. Albeit slightly worse on right handed hitters than Target Field. It's not like park effect is going to drive Dozier's numbers off a cliff.
  4. I believe the stats. But I also believe the totality stats over the components. There is a reason why a mid-90s pitcher like Stewart has a lower K-Rate than two low-90s ones like De Leon and Berrios.
  5. As a rule of thumb given his better fastball, if Stewart's secondary pitches were any good he'd have posted a higher K% in AAA than De Leon or even Berrios. That of course doesn't mean devolving that this year is outside the realm of possibility.
  6. Most "overlooked" pitchers who become aces, which is actually a pretty high percentage of ace pitchers, are guys that simply developed a new skill set in the major league level. It wasn't wrong to rank Johan Santana behind Adam Johnson and Kyle Lohse in 2001 for example, because it would've taken one hell of a crystal ball to see him developing a wipeout change up. De Leon, Stewart and even Alvarez are all in the same boat really in that they need a new trick to truly be elite. The problem with Stewart is he probably needs two new tricks since he's a one-pitch pitcher at this point, although a high-90s fastball with good command is one hell of a pitch.
  7. Kluber would be a good starting point. Here's his last BA prospect write up before exceeding innings writeups: The Indians, Cardinals and Padres pulled off a three-way deal at the July 31 trade deadline, with Cleveland sending Jake Westbrook to St. Louis and getting Kluber from San Diego in return. He led the Double-A Texas League with 136 strikeouts despite leaving the circuit after the trade. He racks up whiffs more with his deceptive short-arm delivery than with pure stuff. Kluber does have a solid arsenal of pitches, working mainly off his 88-92 mph fastball and average slider. He also flashes an average changeup and throws strikes. He still needs to refine his command, because he's around the strike zone almost too much and is fairly hittable. He'd durable, having made 82 starts and worked 455 innings in his three full pro seasons. Kluber doesn't have high upside, but he has good feel for pitching and could be a back-of-the-rotation starter. He'll open 2011 in the Columbus rotation after finishing last season with two starts there.
  8. If there's no clear cut number 1, you do your research and grab the player you believe in most. For as good as Buxton is, I doubt Houston regrets Carlos Correa. Adrian Gonazles in 2000 is another example, sans the draft cap. You find the player you believe in most, and draft him-- regardless of cap savings.
  9. I will say this. If the Wolves want to make the playoffs beating Denver in Denver tonight is a must.
  10. You only get to trade Dozier once though. And if you don't maximize his value, you'll regret it. It's not the end of the world if he's your starting second baseman in April if you don't get something resembling the Knoblauch trade in terms of talent.
  11. I'd put it more this way. The last Dodgers second baseman to have a season as good as Dozier's second best Twins season (2014) was Steve Sax. They can talk aberration. But Dozier is in the middle of a pretty solid run.
  12. I have nothing against the new Twins brass. But I would if they followed that line of thinking. No De Leon and Alvarez? Thanks, but we'll keep Dozier and see if Sano and Buxton grow enough to help us to 80 wins.
  13. It also needs to be mentioned the two most important defensive players on the Wolves right now are Dieng and Rubio. Wiggins is improving. Towns and Lavine have been disappointing. Towns becoming a better rim would be the best possible outcome of this season.
  14. In the effort of staying positive, Jay reminds me a lot of Glen Perkins and Eddie Guardado.
  15. Alvarez is the kind of pitching prospect who's ETA could be anywhere from next September to never. If he finds a bit more command he's the one thing that's missing in the organization-- a potential top of the rotation starter. Whereas De Leon is more in line with what Berrios is as a prospect. If it's a choice of two, I want Alvarez in there somewhere. Sure he's a little bit Alex Meyer esq. But he's also Liriano-esq.
  16. Analytics have never liked Wall. To put it in perspective, Wall sits at .103 Wins Shares per 48 minutes in his career. Slightly better than Rubio at .093. But at the same time, both of them combined don't quite add up to Chris Paul (.203). The problem with Wall is he gets held up as an elite player, but he's never been anywhere near that in his career.
  17. Wall has always been overrated in my eyes, so I'd pass. That's a lot to give up for a point guard who's reasonable a slight upgrade from Rubio. Especially given right now the BPA where you pick is likely going to be one of Ball/Fultz/Smith if you really want to reboot the point guard position next year.
  18. Can we up this to "....completed in the next 2,400 hours"?
  19. Whenever that last phrase gets used, my mind automatically reverts to the BYTO word filter.
  20. Or more pointedly, I doubt Anonouby's ability to shoot. Tatum's ability to defend, and that Isaac will be there when we pick. But after tonight, I'm wavering on the last one.
  21. After tonight, I think I'd take any of them.
  22. For about a year of the site, my biggest joy was setting random word filter pop culture references that no one got but me.
  23. Assuming the medical retirement for Pek, 20 million is his contract plus most of Garnett's coming off the books. I make a pitch to Hayward and Porter in the offseason. If you want more of a bench small forward, there's Covington who also makes some sense. Anouby might be my favorite draft prospect right now. A 230-lbs small forward with a center wing span would solve a lot of problems defensively. Issac I like a lot too. Tatum is the one that scares me the most.
  24. I was in until I noticed it wasn't a secret Santana.
  25. IMHO, I'd prioritize a big 3 over pretty anything else at this point. Canis had an interesting point yesterday that Wiggins defensive rating is strongly negative as a small forward and break even at shooting guard. More ancedotely, they had no shot against Kawhi Leonard last night. Right now, making a run at a restricted free agent like Otto Porter feels smart in the offseason.
