  1. I would think with every good start Pelphrey makes, he's a candidate for the NL (Giants?) I think Walters is cheap, so he's not going anywhere. And i have a hard time believing Ryan will trade Correa this soon.
  2. Any word on Stewart or the Gonslaves kid? Also i was just curious to who they might throw saved bonus money for?
  3. I say no. And this will age me, but he reminds me of a left handed Dave Kingman.
  4. Oh, i agree. But it seems the last couple of drafts have really added talent. Guys like Travis Harrison, are guys they didnt really draft before. And drafting guys with live arms, rather than mostly pitch to contact guys. Add that to the sudden success in the international market, and im more optimistic than i have been in years.
  5. Fletcher is good yes, but you seem to have forgotten about the ill advised Leddy- Barker trade. And he has the complete support of ownership to win. I think the Twins do want to win. The last couple of drafts have been encouraging, but they are never gonna be that team to bring in high priced talent. I'm willing to give Ryan some time to clean up the mess he came into.

    Farm System thoughts

This is my first blog ever, so be gentle. I have a son who is 8 years old, and to my delight, has started following the TWINS. He hears about all these exciting prospects( Buxton, Sano, etc...) and wonders who were the big prospects when i was growing up. First of all, i was old enough where there was no internet, no FSN. I had to rely on The Baseball Digest, Baseball America, and Herb and John for info. The guy that i remember getting the biggest hype was Derek Parks. A power hitting catcher that played seemingly forever in A ball, and Willie Banks a hard throwing pitcher from New jersey. That was about it. You had the parent club relying on Les Straker, Mike Smithson, Fred Tolliver and other retreads. Mark Davison was with the team for most of 1987, but i believe that was the only year i remember him. I also have the distinction of being at the game where Sal Butera debuted as a Twin. Sorry... i get off track a lot. So when i see all these prospects today, i can't help but to be excited. The toolsy 5 tool outfielders? I love that we have them. It means the memory of Carmello Castillo fades a little. Pitchers with electric stuff? yes, means i can foget about the Allan Andersons of yesteryear. No more nightmares of Gary Wayne, Francisco Oliveras, Lee Tunnel. So in closing, be thankful for what we have, because it never used to be this way. Thank you for your time.

  8. Dont remember what year, thinking 1993. Eric Fox hits a 3 run HR off of Rick Aguilera. A's went on to win the division and sent the twins into an era of putrid baseball
  9. Hey John. I ordered the handbook on October 28th and it never came to my email. Can you help?

  10. Just wondering how long it takes to ship. I ordered one October 29th and still havent seen it.
  11. I honestly think this was the best he could do. I have more faith in Ryan making these kind of deals as opposed to trading for MLB talent
  12. All trades have a certain amount of luck to them. I dont think he ever claimed Boof was key to the trade. I believe that was Nathan, as Liriano was basically a throw in if i remember correctly. But i do agree, Ryan needs to get something done. I cautiously optimistic because i dont remember hearing this much chatter about FA's and trades in awhile
  13. If they would have signed better pitchers they wouldn't have called up all those "quality" arms form Rochester. Obviously no decent pitcher is going to sign before Zach Greinke signs his deal. by looking at the free agent SP there are about 15-20 good starters to choose from and the Twins need to add 3 arms by either FA or trade. So I guess the best thing to do is sit back and do nothing until after the Winter meetings and then we can have another season of disappointment... Holy Overreaction. Its not even Thanksgiving. While they dip into rochester because of ineffectiveness, they also had to replace Pavano, Baker, and Capps all during the season. Not one good or even decent pitcher has signed anywhere. The winter meetings haven't even started and that is where a lot of trades and signings happen.
  14. Dont have a problem with what Ryan is doing. Look how many times we had to go rochester for help last year
  15. We knew Vavra was gone. Ryan did an interview not to long ago saying Bruno was a MLB coach. With all the young kids on the way up, it makes sense.I just don't know if i'm keen on Vavra instructing anyone in the organization. Stelmasek i think is kind of a symbolic move. Lets the team know no one is safe. I honestly think Anderson should go as well. I just dont think he has developed young pitchers like he should.
  16. Let's call him Liam... or Hendriks. Hendy just doesn't sound right. I was just trying to pre-empt Gardenhire's name-mangling usage if/when Hendriks pitches a good game. Hendricksie? I know how much he likes that
  17. Betty Jean Thomas> Jeff Gray Lets see if any of you know this one
  18. I agree with Gibson too, but the rest of the list? Yuck
  19. Blackburn's continued presence in the rotation has a lot more to do with the contract that he has than Gardy's attitude towards him. And that contract was not given by Gardy. If you want to blame someone for the harm that Blackburn has inflicted on this pitching staff, the line begins with the front office, not the coaching staff. I agree. I realize with the contract he probably not going anywhere, but i say either move him to the bullpen or shut him down for the year.
  20. I don't think he is a low ceiling guy. He has plus pitches and seems to be a hard worker. I'm not to concerned about the slight frame yet.
  21. If we are relying on Hernandez as guy to step up, we are in trouble, IMO.
  22. I don't have a huge problem with them being thrifty with payroll , if the farm system is thriving and the FA's they do sign help the club. Doumit was a good signing, and they deserve some credit for that. However, the Marquis signing is another attempt by Ryan to bolster the rotation with has beens. It doesn't work, and it hasn't worked in a long time. Can you name the last free agent pitcher that came in and made an impact?
  23. I think the earlier deadline for signing is a huge help. But Berrios really didnt have anything to prove. And Buxton is simply too talented not to be challenged
  24. Disagree. Keeping Willingham isn't gonna keep fans. But playing the younger kids and giving at atbats to Parmalee and others would be more beneficial to the future.
  25. I like Willingham and i love that he just stays quiet does his job. But he also has value as a trading chip. This organization is rebuilding. If he could bring some good high ceiling guys (pitching please) rebuilding would go a whole lot better.
