The Top 5 Twins September Call-Up Options
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I said before the season I hated the Gallo signing, and have said all season to cut him. I am not trying to defend him. To be fair I haven't been on the Wallner bandwagon. I am also NOT saying Wallner isn't better than Gallo, because IMO he is. But people seem to be claiming he is the answer and the future of the Twins outfield. And the last two months he is exactly the player Gallo is. I would have loved to see Martin up, Keirsey up, but like I said above I don't believe anybody is being cut from the 40 to bring another player up. But lets look at July. 43 AB, .209 AVG, .307 OBP, .512 SLG - 17 K's, 4 homers - 1 Doubles - August 52 AB, .212 AVG, .293 OBP, .500 SLG - 20 K's, 4 homers - 3 Doubles - Wallner- 61 replies

The Top 5 Twins September Call-Up Options
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here is why Gallo won't be gone ( and he should be) August 36 AB, 194 AVG, .370 OBP, .444 SLG - 20 K's, 3 homers - 0 Doubles - Gallo 52 AB, .212 AVG, .293 OBP, .500 SLG - 20 K's, 4 homers - 3 Doubles - Wallner They are afraid of getting rid of Gallo because he and Wallner are the same except he can play more defense. As for who they can bring up, it has to be guys on the 40 man, who are they going to cut?- 61 replies

Since the Twins moved to MN, Buxton is in top 15 players all time in WAR with a legit shot at top 5, Top 25-30 if you included the old Senators. Yes gosh forbid a draft pick turn out like that. Or a minor league player after 8 years ends up with a career OPS of .808 and OPS+ of 116.

So are you saying you prefer the idea of having a AA and AAA team full of older non-prospects and winning, then having a bunch of stud young guys and not winning as much?

Further envisioning of Twins youth movement
TwinsDr2021 commented on Greglw3's blog entry in Greg Allen
I think this team could defiantly win the international league west division. Can we put hold the breaks on Wallner being a starter for a bit? He has a lower OPS in August than Gallo (And he should be cut) -
The Answer to the question in the title of the article is no. Currently at MLB and other sites none of the top 5 prospects are older than 21. So most of the players mentioned in this article will be too old to be considered top 5 prospects except Jenkins. With that said maybe an Acuna or some other young guy has a crazy good year next year and jumps some levels and gets his name into the conversation, but even then top 5 is pretty unlikely.

To be honest I am not complaining about not bringing up Prato, Keirsey and Severino, to me they aren't really prospects and more likely than not won't have much of if any a MLB career (I wish them well), I am more saying some people think they are a solution to a Twins need, and my point really is if they were they should have been brought up.

I think that is kind of the point, because they are slow calling people up (see my post above) they have ended up with a bunch of mid 20 and older prospects that they really don't know much about and because they are not dumb, they know you have to bring in some vets because if those young guys fail, they are kind of f'ed. If they would have brought up Wallner and Julien last year, it would haven't been hard to call up a Keirsey, Prato, Severino or even Williams. but since they spent time this year figuring out Larnach, Miranda, Wallner and Julien those guys haven't yet got a chance, and next year they will be 27, 26, 24 and 27. Next year they will still be feeling Wallner, Julien, Larnach (possibly), Miranda, and to a lesser extent Lewis and Ak, Again doesn't leave much of an opportunity for "real" young prospects, when they are also blocked by old prospects. One could argue the same with the pitching staff. Some people think Varland needs more time in the minors he turns 26 in December. another thing I can't understand why the same people that feel the minor league guys need more time are saying Cavaco is a bust, He just turned 22, he has at least 2 years and in some cases up to 4 to be the same age as all the other prospects?

I would say he should have been up at the end of last year, same with Wallner and Miranda the year before and others this year, and maybe they wouldn't have had to sign Gallo and could have spent that money on something else. The idea that a 24 year old player learns much of anything by going to the minors for anything but bad play is crazy talk. Julien didn't become a better second baseman in those 20 or so games in AAA.

Got to say I don't understand the idea of turning positions over to unproven 24 (Severino) and 26 (Prato) old minor league players (ages at the start of next season) if they aren't given some time this year. I also don't see the Twins FO doing it either, I don't think they are going to let an above average league hitter go for nothing. (I am not against picking up the option and trading Polanco, I think mid market teams needs to get value from a player like this) I can see the Twins maybe giving 1 prospect a starting position next year but no more. Who is that? Not sure

Is It Time to Worry About Jhoan Duran?
TwinsDr2021 replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So sick of hearing Twins pitchers could be tired. What would have happened if we needed to be in league leaders of saves? Maybe next year the pitchers should work out with Pablo and not the training staff. -
Am I acting that way, or are you projecting something I didn't say?

Was commenting on Mike's post about Carroll, and used Neto as another example of somebody that the Twins fans would say needs more time in the minors, and was trying to say he was drafted last year as well. It was a NOT a comment on how Lee should be in the majors now. Yes Miranda and Julien were called up at age 23, one and two months before turning 24. Yes Lewis called up 1 month prior to turning 23, And you are correct on AK. Weren't Celestino and SWR called up because they were on the 40 man? It is my opinion that this FO is either horrible at developing position players or some other reason that players aren't called up sooner. (Miranda, Julien, Wallner, Varland are a few examples of players I felt should have been moved up quicker) Plus more this year.

It would seem that all the high school kids that got drafted are playing in the rookie league and have played around 10 games.

This is 100% true, Zach Neto isn't doing to bad in LA, was drafted in the same draft as Lee and 5 picks after. Yet the Twins guy needs more time time. The rest of the league is calling up guys 21, 22, 23 years old and the Twins can't call up guys 24 or older because they just aren't ready or need more time?

Souhan: Snooty Twins Fans Should Chill a Bit
TwinsDr2021 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
um, nope, if I am positive about player X or coach Y, I am not telling you how to feel, I am telling you how I feel. If I say fire Rocco I am not telling you that is how you should feel. That is most of what is wrong with society these days, for some reason people feel that others should feel they way they do or call them whatever the negative word of the day is. -
I am pretty sure that is the consensus with every person in MN except the ones that matter. IMO there is close to a zero percent chance they cut Gallo and his salary and call up a non prospects. (That is a no win situation for them, the player is terrible they look bad, the player is good, they look bad for signing and playing Gallo)

The only minor player the twins have that compares to Pena and Stott is Brooks Lee. To compare any other Twins minor player to them is a huge disservice to them. Pena was one of the main reasons Houston felt comfortable letting Correa go (and the money of course), and Stott was top 100 middle infielder prospect. NEITHER of them were a soon to be 27 year old 1B/DH. I get it we all want Gallo gone and have for months but this FO doesn't and it seems highly unlikely they are going to do it for a non 40 man roster player. If you want to compare somebody to Pena and Stott, its Julien and he is up doing exactly what they did (minus some defense) I get it some really old minor league players are doing great in St. Paul (there are a few younger ones) and we want the Twins do to be better and think they guys would/could/might help, but there is a reason they are in the minors.

Me personally not ready to put a check next to any of those players except Duran. He has actually done it for 1 1/2. I do feel pretty confident in Lewis (if he can stay healthy) and AK if he comes back this year and does well (otherwise that will be 3 lost year and still unknown how good he is or if he can stay healthy) I need to see more in Julien and Wallner they both have way, way less at bats than Miranda had. With that said I feel pretty comfortable going into next season giving Lewis, Julien and Wallner (with a shorter leash because he will be 26 next season) starting spots.

Where Do the Twins Fit All of the Youth
TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
100% agree, maybe the FO thinks he will be in AAA all next year (why add a guy to the 40 until you have to with some issues they might have and lets be honest he is way cheaper in the future the longer you keep players in the minors) and the plan is for 2025 is to move Correa to third and give Lee the spot. They do seem to be stubborn on moving some players, it seems like trying Wallner and Julien at first last year hurts them later. I mean somebody mentioned Jeffers at first but somehow those two can't play 1B? Unless of course they are thinking one or both of them could have more trade value their current position.- 76 replies

TwinsDr2021 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Of course you can't come up with 12, but 12 isn't the number unless every player put on is added to the active roster. Because 11 of the guys you mentioned are currently on the active roster.- 76 replies

Not saying I don't like this, but he has played 1 game (and had no plays) at 2B in 2021 (In the cape cod league). I would love to see them put him there right now in AAA and Martin in CF for the rest of the year.- 76 replies
