  1. Sign me up for that as well. But not yet.
  2. My overall take is that several aspects of the organization were slipping which ultimately culminated in the collapse of 2011. Part of this was what Ryan left but it was moreso mismanagement of assets under Smith. The mlb talent fully bottomed out in 2012 and now there is a new stability up and down the organization the past couple of years. It didn't translate much to the majors this year as far as record is concerned but will as soon as next season. I think the farm system is one aspect of this, albeit a critical one going forward.
  3. I think this is exactly the type of player the Twins will sign and it is a good thing. They are not top 10 but are in the next tier.
  4. I think a team goes big on Lincecum, I wouldn't want it to be the Twins. I could get behind Johnson depending on the injury situation at the end of the year.
  5. It is a bad ten for the Twins. Players are at the wrong position and the old pitchers won't go to a rebuilding team. Santana is the best option and I wouldn't trust him on a long term deal.
  6. I guess I assumed people would have understood the comparison was between when Ryan took over to the current condition. I'll be more clear.
  7. I agree with this. Good risk for Moore that might pay off yet. Twins were no way near that position last offseason.
  8. Payroll? I'm talking about how the franchise has changed in the past two years.
  9. I was talking about farm systems because we were discussing the need to develop talent because so little is available via free agency. And I noticed you cited the record before 2011 instead of after, which was of course when Ryan took over. But you prove the point a little - the franchise had just collapsed.
  10. I thought his title was Special Assistant and he primarily did scouting. We still can't know what titles result in what actions. That's why I asked if you were sure. In interviews he generally downplays hos role at that time. Maybe he's throwing Smith under the bus.
  11. Here is my recollection of the Sano signing. The Twins had spent their entire internally budgeted international budget (on Polanco and Kepler primarily). They had scouted Sano and had the relationship with him and when events conspired to make him available Smith got permission from Pohlad to exceed the budget for Sano specifically. I don't think we can know if Ryan would have asked.
  12. I was thinking low teen ranking combined with the worst combined record. It was not the least talented system by any means.
  13. This has already happened. That's why I said free agency was "dead" a couple of weeks ago. In season trades look pretty wounded as well.
  14. I neither utterly ignored Smith nor gave Ryan all the credit. I merely pointed out the minors were in shambles in 2011 and now are in great shape by any measure. Almost half the top 20 guys came into the system under Smith - no argument here. But a successful minor league system requires many aspects which have all improved
  15. Are you sure about the first part? Since Ryan spent over $3 mil last year and this year on international signings it is quite possible he would authorize Sano. No way to prove either way.
  16. They should disagree because it's ridiculous. No credit for staff or development changes? Trades? The full season minor league affiliates had the worst combined record in 2011 and now have one of the best. That isn't an accident. And the 2012 picks are already out of the system? I'm sure that will be news to them.
  17. He had no trade value. As a free agent he got less than he would have in arby. I don't buy your quoted reasons at all.
  18. Something was fixed. They went from an organization in shambles in 2011 to probably the #1 farm system in baseball. Now what big change happened two years ago?
  19. Couldn't agree with you two more. The first, second and third reasons the Twins are in this mess is they have failed to develop impact players, especially starters.
  20. This is the crux of my skepticism. I support using any information to support scouting.
  21. That was probably the rationale for cutting Ortiz.
  22. I'm hesitant to quantify the subjective. My understanding is mlb evaluations take into account the the close pitches as not being clear one way or the other.
  23. What was the rank last year?
  24. There is a tradeoff though. Could they be consciously trading defense for offense? Especially since Doumit was also signed to DH. The roster construction due to Mauer causes some unique decisions relative to other teams.
  25. Dozier didn't completely skip AAA but this is a great reminder. Almost every player returns to the minors at some point.
