  1. Lots of sternly worded responses from Republican Senators. Not expecting much action. The beat goes on.
  2. Basically already happens. Large insurance companies already have a presence in mulitple states. Have to be separate entities because each state has unique requirements. I suppose an argument could be made to make all requirements universal.
  3. Probably will end up campaigning for single payer and legislating a public option.
  4. It worked out well with Suzuki!
  5. I generally support this view, but the draft this year just doesn't fall that way. Top 3 guys are all pitchers. Can't jump the board that much. But on a related note, does make me feel somewhat optimistic about the current state of the team, they have the makings of a solid, young core of position players.
  6. In other news, we are expanding our troop levels in Afghanistan (again) and are now overtly arming the Kurds. That's going to spill into Turkey.
  7. He's certainly been greasing the wheels to shut some down and arrest them.
  8. Mauer was locked up at the right time originally. It just should have been for longer than 4 years.
  9. The country is starting to run out of time for Trump's incompetence to save us. Some Republican Senators actually have to do something politically courageous.
  10. I imagine he goes after journalists pretty soon. I anticipate a lot of stern words from Republican Senators though. So all is not lost.
  11. Unless he really likes it in Minnesota, and it's one of those situations at the deadline that he either signs an extension or gets traded, I don't see him doing that deal before the season ends.
  12. All pitchers have the same routine? Every pitcher does work between starts, but some will throw one day, but some do two, some do longer toss, there is different emphasis of workouts on non-throwing days. Some are tweaking mechanics, some are working on pitches. I think McKay could pull it off, he certainly has the time if he wants to, I'm just skeptical that a team that takes him as a pitcher is going to risk potential injury from overuse, or cage work, or the like. It is also quite a jump to from starting every 7 days to starting every 5 days. Need more recovery time, among other things.
  13. I certainly share your concern about the rotation. I don't have a good sense of what Santiago would get as a free agent. It might be a decent enough free agent class that he won't get crazy money. 2/20 might be close.
  14. I'm very lukewarm on a Santiago extension, but 2/20 would make me reconsider. I really wonder if that is enough.
  15. Yes, traded him for Nunez. Then traded for Mejia.
  16. Pitching depth is absoluyely hard to get. But pitching is very fleeting. And often it can pop from unexpected spots. And collapse as soon as it emerges. Just not the case with bats. Establish a core and then go from there.
  17. I prefer Sano at 1b, Dozier/Gordon/Polanco rounding out the infield.
  18. So the solution is to trade that pitcher away? And while the pitching is not good, they have some pieces to work with and evaluate and some money to play with (and a representative free agent class). I hope they're a little more aggressive this offseason. And while the farm system is down a little, they should have a little pitching depth emerge over the next 2 years. Having a good offensive core is much harder to put in place.
  19. I think you are underestimating the position this team is in. They have a legit emerging offensive core that is still not near its potential ceiling. This is going well beyond just trying not to be the worst team. I'm not sure they want to just push it back 2-3 years, they can hang around THIS season, and be quite competitive as early as next season.
  20. They're too good, even if they trade all the non-young players, to lose enough to get a top pick next year. So that ship has sailed.
  21. I agree with the second point, but Santana has 2.5 more years (if you count the option), and Dozier might (should) get extended. No one else that would potentially be traded is going to matter. So I say keep Santana and Dozier, or trade them both. But the window is starting to open.
  22. What did Mr. Miyagi ever do? The bigger issue is they shouldn't fully reload, they have too much young talent.
  23. What makes you think they are trying to work quickly? Seems they are in it for the long haul. To me it seems development is the higher priority, but I don't think they want any part of blowing it up and stripping to the studs. They've said before they don't think it is necessary to strip all the way down. (And I generally agree).
  24. It seems to me they are trying to remain competitive while also developing their best assets. It doesn't necessarily have to be either/or. I suspect they absolutely didn't want to send Gibson down, but he left them with no choice.
  25. They didn't literally say that of course. But they also haven't said he isn't one of the five best. The front office isn't infallible, but they aren't idiots either. They know the talent Berrios has. But they also want to make sure he is ready to succeed when he is called up again. People, rightly or wrongly, complain all the time about good prospects bouncing up and down. Seems to me they are trying really hard to avoid that with Berrios.
