you have to create competition for these jobs

If TX wants Morneau and a Kepler level prospect, I'm hoping JR pulls the trigger

    I miss the old Bite-0

If 4m is the price, that's just fine. That isn't a prohibitive amount of money. There's still the Dan Haren, Joe Blanton, Ryan Dempster, etc. that the team should be in on. I understand the one-year desire with someone like Liriano.

Everything would have to fall into place. Willingham would have to be desired by another team at the cost of pitching, Span would have to be moved for pitching, and Torii would have to find himself without a more attractive suitor late in the free-agent period. It isn't likely, it's extremely unlikely, but daydreaming about the positive/negative influence he could have on Rever is fun.

If Dempster requires three years or less at, say, 11 mil per... I could get behind that.

Idk, 3yrs/10mil? Not the most ideal. Would've been ok, but if the Twins did that, wouldn't we all be complaining that those dollars weren't allocated to pitching?

I don't understand why Eric Chavez would sign with the Twins. Hasn't he been on the verge of retirement for a while? His body breaks down with regular playing time. He seems willing to come cheaply with the understanding that he will be a part-time player and he will have a shot at a ring.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here, Dave, and assume this is snark. Stretching a single is a decision made by players, not 1st base coaches. Can we blame him when the running game falls apart?

    No love for Trout?

I'm glad this suggestions deal exists. I sort of hate the hover-over-a-topic-and-get-a-yellow-blob-with-a-partial-though-feature. I get it, but I hate it.

I guess I feel that neither team is being rewarded, almost the opposite. We don't know the money changing hands yet and neither team looks to come out of this unscathed. Boston is going into full-on rebuild mode* and LA is taking themselves out of the running for the top-flight free agents for at least the next two years, unless the luxury tax isn't an issue for them. It is fun for me to watch this all develop, but I can sit back and be glad my team isn't one of the teams involved. *I understand the necessity of rebuilding, I was just trying to put myself into the shoes of an average Boston fan; someone who expects playoffs and deep playoff runs every year. If this year's FA class suits Boston's needs well and they decide to go ahead and build a veteran team through FA signings and trades without a commitment to rebuild, then that is a different story altogether.

This has been a really fun rumor to follow along all day. Totally unexpected and a total game-changer. I wonder if there is concern of the commissioner's office having some problems with the amount of money and PTBNL being tossed about.

Expect grumpy scalpers. Everyone has figured out since you can see the game from almost everywhere in the stadium, people only want cheap tickets. No need to spend on good seats when you can spend an inning or two one level up and directly behind home plate, then some from the OF, then some from the 1st/3rd base line. You get it. Because of that, your best value might be getting some more expensive tickets at less than face. The last game i went to, I tried to buy scalped (walk off win vs CWS) and I ended up using the ticket kiosk and paying full price. Never once did I look to see where my seats were. The scalpers were selling Gen. admission tix for $5-10 over face and some premium seats $10-20 under, so It's all about preference. Plus, hang out outside of Keiran's for the most amount of scalpers. Cheers!

Has there been a day with all three of the Twins catchers in the lineup at once yet? Had to be, right?

................. Nobody cares. It's the Twins. If it isn't JR, it will be BS. JR had his moments, BS ruined our dreams. Either way, the Twins aren't players. Ther are big and small markets, but there is no demand that the Twins make moves. This fanbase does not care!

I whined, but not about having a #1. My complaint was about having too many clones of each-other. Having a guy or two who were "effectively wild" would have been a great compliment to the "control artists" they keep cloning. The team seems to think that every 88mph FB with good control is going to turn into Brad Radke. I'm not expecting a Randy Johnson #3, I'm just thinking someone who has a strikeout pitch, maybe walks some guys, and has the ability to miss some bats. Post-surgery Rich Harden, even with his 'meh' results, would have given the opponents something to think about other than "swing because it's probably a strike."

Sounds like a good day to do the little things on the basepaths.

Possible, but my point is that pitchers, although ready to pitch 10-15 months after TJ, are rarely effective shortly after that time frame expires. I'll try and look up some numbers, but I readily admit that my stance is mostly anecdotal; read: Nathan, Liriano, Milton, etc.

Upset at the Doumit signing?!?! My word! It's like the argument is, "I put a waaaaayyyyy better team together on my ps3!"
