  1. Rumors are that they are pushing Baker back out of caution, not because they have to.
  2. Then it appears that "the guy's" assessment was right.
  3. I don't buy this argument. If Carlos Gomez was still here and playing a phenomenal CF then this argument makes sense. His defense makes up for the inadequate play of our corner OFs, but catching - not so much. It's a one man job. Hell, petition MLB to let Butera catch and Mauer hit for him for 9 innings and we kill two birds with one stone! But in order for his defense to play, he has to hit and that hurts the team.
  4. Either way he wasnt very good. I hope he can play better though.
  5. You mean like when I said he would tie Castro for worst in the entire league?
  6. You realize that pretty much all of these stats are best used over larger spans of data right? Even the loudest proponents of these systems acknowledge one season of data can be faulty and therefore the numbers are best used in a larger context. So you're quoting a half a season's worth of data using stats best employed within the context of multiple seasons. Doesn't seem like a real sound argument to me. Fact is, the kid was committing a lot of errors, his defense was hardly neutral.
  7. Well, perhaps you should so you don't ignorantly reply to posts referencing it. The rest of your post really doesn't warrant a response.
  8. The scholarship reference has been used for over a year on BYTO and TD. It's in reference to roster spots as the Twins stated that there would be no more "scholarships" and roster spots would need to be earned. Though I'd also argue that Butera isn't earning his pay either, hard to do that when you are historically inept at what you do. An MLB bench should be versatile and capable. Butera is half capable at best, whereas at least Hermann is versatile and (in all likelihood) a more capable all around player.
  9. And his fielding percentage would've tied Castro's for worst in the league. Again, where is a stat that puts him at "neutral"?
  10. I'm sorry, but this is insanity. If you bring your car into the mechanic and he returns it to you with three wheels, no brakes, and a broken windshield....do you avoid critiquing his performance because you're not a mechanic? Where, in my post, where did I denigrate Butera the person? If you feel bad for Butera because of harsh critiques, perhaps you should suggest to him to stop playing a highly public game he's not very good at? At least then your efforts will be both rational and helpful for our favorite team.
  11. Based on what? As just one example, if he had continued at the pace he established in his 83 games over the full season he would have led the entire league in errors at shortstop. What are you basing your assessment on?
  12. How about - Drew Butera is an awful baseball player who's continued scholarship to the Twins 25 man roster is an embarrassment for the franchise and an insult to paying customers. Someone so terrible at his job, so woefully inept at a major portion of the game, so utterly useless at the plate - should not be the topic of any conversations on this forum. But, unfortunately, he remains a part of our team and thus our discourse about them. But perhaps an analogy would be better. Some of us learned that if we touch a hot burner, we get burned and learn to stop it. Apparently the Twins have not "grown out of" touching the hot burner. They keep repeating some of the same mistakes, perhaps you should take up that issue with them as well.
  13. Yeah, that's fine and I'm not saying he can't do that. I'm just correcting the assertion some have made about Dozier that he was good defensively or offensively last year. He wasn't, he was pretty brutal. Just calling a spade a spade, not making any pronouncements about his future based on that.
  14. I certainly haven't given up on Dozier, but I don't see why we have to pretend he played well last year. He was pretty brutal in the field and at the plate. If he's part of this team's future, it wasn't because he was impressive during his major league stint last year. I hope he gets another good, long look this year.
  15. Well that was refreshingly frank and accurate. I hope he is too, will make him a more attractive trade piece.
  16. The reason to push Herman is that our current third catcher is totally inept at a crucial portion of the game.
  17. What are you talking about? I am surprised the number isn't at 68 or so because 64 and a half leaves little room for Vegas and the under. Basically if they avoid 100 losses Vegas loses big on the over. So either Vegas is supremely confident the Twins are awful and set the number low to entice a lot of over bets or they believe the betting public is supremely confident the Twins are awful. 68 gives Vegas a few more wins to play with and still will pull in bets on the over. So I'm surprised they set it as low as they did, it leaves their profit margin pretty tight. Unless the Twins are ridiculously bad, then Vegas wins big because they will likely get a lot of over bets on that line.
  18. Damn...6 and a half liters? That is one hell of an accident.
  19. Can an entire town be ignored? I'm a bit surprised the line isn't closer to 68-69 though, I expect the Twins to win a bit more than 70 myself, or within a few games of that.
  20. No info....just the power of positive thinking?
  21. You misunderstand. Being relevant is a good thing. In addition to what you said there is the issue of falling revenue as fans get apathetic which hamstrings the future. My beef was more with this obnoxious bent some are on here to dismiss the rest of the AL Central while at the same time imaging all goes right for us. Without some objectivity its hard to take an opinion serious. The Indians discussion reflects that. They could be pretty damn good if things break right in even small ways.
  22. I remember Dozier leading the league in errors for much of his stint....is that not correct? I remember a lot of routine plays bobbled.
  23. He keeps talking like this and adds a few head-first slides....he may be on A Drew Butera Memorial Scholarship in no time!
  24. The problem with the optimistic take around here is that it ignores the fact that other teams have a right to be optimists. Where you see the difference in roster talent is that if things go right for the Twins - we're relevant. If things go right for the Indians - they could be a playoff team and win the division. It bugs me when people insist on looking on the rosy side of everything with our team, but don't even try an objective, similar take on another team. With the additions the Indians made and the past success some of their starters have had, they have MUCH more reason to hope than we do. It's really as simple as that.
