  1. It's time to look at the Twins for what they are now...the Twins are KC, Seattle and Houston. This team isn't going anywhere for the forseeable future, so why wrap 30 million into a guy when you have a cheap MLB ready 1B waiting in the wings. The 8-10 million is better spent on pitching and more pitching and then some more pitching instead of an injury prone 1B.
  2. If this team loses for the next 2-4 years, getting Mauer's contract off the books wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I hope that Mauer wants to win, that it doesn't matter if he's surrounded by a bunch of *******s he hates. Whatever your personally feeling are for a friend and co-worker, at the end of the day this is a business of wins and loses and moving on from Justin and onto Parm so this team can finally get some damn pitching in here is what's best for business. To potentially sign a guy to 30 million dollars cause it makes Joey happy is one of the worst reasons I've ever heard to sign a guy. Mauer is not KG, Morneau isn't Thud...no more friendship contracts.

    Strasburg

Rizzo said the doctors advised him to lets Strasburg's arm rest for a certain amount of time. That's why they're not skipping his starts.
  4. You were doing well, but you just lost me with this right here.
  5. 1. You're right, no team is gonna give him fill value to a guys who's body and head and gone through hell and back of the last couple years. So why suddenly after an decent year where he still spent time on the DL do you wanna wrapper 30 million back into him? 2. There's no guarantee that any prospect works out, but this is what bad teams do. You get rid of expensive vets when you have cost controlled kids in the minors ready to roll. 3. PR disaster my ass, Morneau isn't one of the top players in the league. He's not a cornerstone player, he's an ok expensive 1B. You know what's gonna mean more to fans, using that money to address the pitching staff and get this team back on track. 4. What realistically MLB ready package do you see Parm and Span bringing back? 5. Money isn't an issue, but using that money wisely is what's important. When you have a MLB ready 1B in the minors that looks like he can realistically fill 1B I don't know why you throw 30 million at an old aging 1B.
  6. I think it would be extremely foolish to invest any money longterm into Justin. Happy as a pig in **** he's been able to come back and play, but this man has the body of an 90 year old World War 2 vet. He's a banged up 32 year old lumbering 1B, those guys aren't that hard to replace. Plus I actually want to see what Parmelee can do (and he's no OF) He might not match Justin's production, but IMO he'll come close and it will only cost 400K.

    Strasburg

I get the innings cap, it makes sense for a guy coming back from TJ. But the Nationals should also think that more then likly Strasburg isn't gonna be around for the next decade plus in Washington. He's got Boras as an agent and you know damn well Boras already has a 200 page binder ready to pass out to teams at the winter meetings in 2017 when Strasburg is a free agent. If anything I say run that arm into the ground and get as many bullets as you can before the chamber is empty.
  8. Well yeah ofcourse, no QB is gonna win a game singlehandly. But if it comes down to having an elite Qb or an elite D-line any sane person will take the QB and it's not even close.
  9. The same Loshe that took a bat to Gardy's door...I'd love to see it happen!
  10. Hmmm...lets see what meant more to the Giants winning the Super Bowl. Manning completing 65% of his passes, throwing 9 TD to 1 INT and having a QB rating of 103. Or the Giants very good Dline...I'll take Eli thank you very much.
  11. First off calm the hell down, it's a figure of speech. You're talking up a guy only cause he's a pitch, but in reality, he's a medicore early pick at best. You do realize that the Twins are gonna draft early in 2013, 2014 and more then likely for quite a few years right? Just cause in 2012 they opted to draft an OF with an insane ceiling doesn't mean all hope is lost. They'll more then likely take an arm in the 2013 draft (unless the BPA is on the board and a position player) and for many more years to come. This isn't gonna be an overnight fix, so taking the best player with the highest ceiling over mid-rotation arms is something we should all agree on.
  12. Jesus, you make it seem like the Twins passed on Strasburg to draft Buxton. In a normal draft class, Gausman, Zimmer, Appel would have been mid firstround icks at best. It was weak class and the Twins took the best player on the board, hell IMO they took the best player in the draft. His ceiling his sky high and it's not like the Twins are gonna have any shortage of picks early in the first round for the forseeable future. First off just cause you throw 95 outta the pen, doesn't mean you'll mantain that velocity once you're a starter. Hell look what the pen did for Perkins, it took 89-92 and turned it into 95. NTM there's a reason these guys are in the pen, either lack of a 3rd pitch, durability and who knows. It's not like a college coach is still a kid who can start in the pen for ****s and giggles. It's a nice idea, but it rarely works out.
  13. None of the pitchers in this years draft class were anything special to write home about (sans Giolito who wasn't healthy) Taking a pitcher just for the sake of taking a pitcher or whatever position isn't a position the Twins or any team should take. It's not like there's a ton of longterm building blocks at the major league level and the kids in the minors are nothing but prospects (a couple of them will fail) Buxton offered the most upside outta anyone in this draft, IMO Buxton are the type of boom or bust picks the Twins needs to get.
  14. So you acknowledge advanced stats for Harper and Frazier, but you truly believe two guys who pitch over 100 innings less the starters are somehow more valuable?
  15. .255 OBP hitting 2nd...top notch Mr Gardenhire.
  16. Have to add Berrios in with Buxton. Past that, I honestly don't have much of an opinion. I don't like the idea of drafting college relievers but I'll withhold judgment for now. Truthfully I didn't know much about JO past his little BA writeup, but so far so good. I just don't understand how you plan on rebuilding starters in the minors by taking a bunch of relief arms. Who yes throw 95 outta the pen, but does that drop to 91-92 once they start. NTM they're in the bullpen for a reason, either cause of a durability issues or the lack of a 3rd pitch to get guys out 3-4 times on a given night.
  17. Meet...in public...with you people?
  18. I loved the Buxton pick, hated the amount of flawed college relief pitchers they took.
  19. We had to talk over to BYTO and it was broken down into two groups. At the end of the day I think we agreed on 8 QB's that you can win a Super Bowl with now. Group A: Brady, Rogers, Brees & the Mannings Group B: Big Ben, Rivers & Stafford Now clearly over time things will change, hell I personally think Peyton is done but I'll leave him in here for now. But could a Romo, Flacco, Ryan or Newton creep into Group B...ofcourse. But one of these 8 guys are more then likely gonna win the Super Bowl this season and it's cause they're the best QB's in the league and teams are driven by great QB play. You can compete without elite play, but you ain't winning a Super Bowl without it.
  20. The first Super Bowl I will admit that the Steelers team carried him, but the second Super Bowl Big Ben was damn good. NTM since he came back some smashing his face on the ground, Ben has been a damn good QB. Not in the Manning, Brady, Rogers class, but pretty damn good and good enough to win a Super Bowl with. One fluke play yes, but at the end of the day if the 49ers would have got even decent play outta Smith they would have blown the Giants away. But Smith played like crap and even a great defense can hold a team down for so long. Flacco has been a bit better then ho-hum the last couple seasons and he was great in the postseason last year. Good enough to win that game.
  21. As a married man I would strongly recommend that you stop and reconsider what you're about to do.
  22. Eli's entire body of work might not scream elite QB in the Peyton, Brady, Breese class. But for a playoff run in 2007 and 2011 he was up there with any QB in the league. And funny how the the Giants are a medicore team while Eli is playing average QB, but then he guess crazy in the postseason and you have a Super Bowl winning team. Teams live and die by their QB's now a days. Hell who even cares about defense anymore, the two worst defensive teams in the league last season were the #1 seeds going into the postseason. If you don't have elite QB in this league you have no chance at winning a Super Bowl.
  23. Sweet Jesus are you kidding me?
  24. The Pohlad wallet salutes this post.
  25. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/21/frustrated-carl-pavano-shut-down-after-new-diagnsosis/ And a nice shot at the Twins Medical Staff on the way out the door.
