  1. I like him a lot but you've provided no basis for a Cano comparison.
  2. I'm really not on the Goodrum train. He was pretty awful in July and August. He is a great athlete but I need to see something outside of a nice month in rookie ball to get excited. Polanco I'm excited about but where did this Cano comparison come from?
  3. I'm really not on the Goodrum train. He was pretty awful in July and August. He is a great athlete but I need to see something outside of a nice month in rookie ball to get excited. Polanco I'm excited about but where did this Cano comparison come from?
  4. At his age and injury history 2 yrs with a 3rd yr option is as far as I would go.
  5. Gio should be on my list. I think you need to trade a pitcher for a hitter because you have plenty.
  6. With 6 keepers I would put about 90% of their value on next season. I also don't like the idea of keeping 1/2 pitchers (and one closer) but those are your best players. Braun Stanton AGone Greinke Bum Kimbrel Profar and machado might not even start next year and it wouldn't be a big surprise if they struggled. Zim doesn't k enough and I think he'll look more normal next season. Lawrie is really close to his potential imo and would probably be my pick of a young player. I would target Craig in the draft because he has been awesome when he's not injured.
  7. Since Santana successfully rehabbed and avoided TJ he has been awful, alright, good and awful. If you look closer his FIP has been in the 4-5.00 range (xFIP 4-4.50) during those seasons. Right now his velocity and K's are both going down and he's looking like a prime candidate to be absolutely awful in the future. I don't think he's intriguing at all and he should be avoided at all costs.
  8. These numbers are way too low. Sanchez and Jackson are definitely getting 10+M/yr deals and Marcum will probably get 10M/yr if he looks relatively healthy. Ervin Santana is looking all kinds of awful and there is no reason to be intrigued. Blanton has a long history of sucking in the NL.
  9. While the SP market is better than most years I am going to disagree that it is really deep. Good SP'ers greinke Sanchez Marcum Jackson the rest are pretty mediocre since Colby Lewis had TJ and McCarthy fractured his skull The best path imo if you don't go after Greinke or Marcum is to try and get a pair of guys like Villanueva and Baker on shorter term (but not 1 yr) contracts in the 5-7M range.
  10. Sweet! Another WAR argument. what is the argument about anyway? Doesn't WAR say that span is a fair amount better currently and don't the eyes agree?
  11. I'm not hung up on whether or not Revere can directly replace span. Revere is pretty much guaranteed to be in the starting lineup next season regardless. My biggest concern is that the Twins have basically made their decision and they will sell span low for a crappy MLB ready starter.
  12. You absolutely try to sign Baker on a 1 yr guaranteed contract (5Mish) if and only if you get that 1 (or even better 2) reasonable option years (8-10M). TJ is a very successful surgery and the majority of pitchers are successful afterwards. If it doesn't work out then you don't have long term dollars committed. If it does work then you've locked up a solid #3 for 3 years at a pretty cheap price. it's pretty difficult to add pitchers at Baker's level w/o committing 50-80M to them.
  13. Mike's saying that only because the Twins have so many OF'ers. Personally I think it's silly to call someone like Kepler a 1Bman since it's hard to really know what your needs will be 3+ yrs from now. The Twins could have a couple of OF prospects bust and find one good 1Bman (within the system (Sano) or outside of the system). It doesn't hurt to have Kepler work at 1B some though.
  14. My plan is to still trade him so my answer is no.
  15. Who has an OPS+ of 122; identical to his 2007 season. Of course, that includes his stretch of futility prior to the All-Star break. You're bad at this. DPJ pretty much hates everyone on the team that is halfway decent but gets paid well. For years he railed against Cuddyer and Baker and now it's Morneau. Sure they make a little too much but not everyone is going to be elite or making the MLB min. He also hates perkins and Plouffe. His track record is spotty at best.
  16. out of the list of tradeable players (eliminating mauer, Hicks, Arcia, Sano, etc...). Willingham - I mentioned trading him straight up for James Shields. Seems like a lateral vet for vet, strength/weakness trade. It would be great to trade Willingham for a top pitching prospect but teams are hoarding prospects now more than ever. Perkins - he's actually become really good but I'm not sure this team can trade him now. It wasn't that long ago that this team had nothing in the bullpen. Revere - I think GM's are going to view him as a .300 hitter that can't walk or hit for power. Might as well keep him if you're not getting something really good back. Span - he's a really good centerfielder but he's missed to many games to have a lot of value right now. The Twins are better off keeping him until the deadline or longer and for once have a good OF defense. Burton - might get you an intriguing lower level prospect (think about a guy like Goodrum) but there isn't much in the pen right now. Morneau - you might be able to get an intriguing lower level prospect (like Goodrum) if you picked up half of the salary. You definitely aren't getting much at the MLB level.
  17. After ColbyLewis had TJ and McCarthy nearly died the FA market is down to 4 total pitchers (I think) that I would consider #1-3 MLB starters. Greinke, Marcum, Sanchez and Jackson. I would consider it very difficult to sign half of the good starters in the market in one offseason considering that nearly every team needs pitching.
  18. Actually, according to Souhan, Ryan said the "Elite FA Pitching Market is thin" Yeah. I would have to agree with Ryan. Actually non-existent. So you got to trade Span (and Morneau and maybe prospects) to fix the rotation. And unless the rotation is fixed the Twins will not content so they will be wasting Morneau's last season and Span's high value. You're not going to fix the rotation by trading Morneau and Span. neither of these players have significant trade value because of the injuries they have had the past couple of seasons. The only thing you gain with trading these two now is the ability to later complain that they sold low.
  19. I'm the first one to remind people not to get carried away regarding Berrios but you seem to be disregarding him because he hasn't played at a high enough level yet. He has really good stats AND he has a really good scouting report. And lets be honest a 43% K rate while walking 4 total batters is something that I haven't seen from an 18 yr old even if it is in rookie ball. full season ball will be his first big test but there are legit reasons to be excited about him.
  20. Willingham will probably get you a better package than Morneau and Span combined. If I was trading someone that's who it would be. I do not trust his health at all.
  21. Perhaps injury riddled isn't correct but he's missed 32 games with an uncertain return date. This is certainly going to be considered by other GM's. I don't know what you expect to get from trading Morneau but it's not nearly what you expect.
  22. The problem with trading Span is that he's had two straight injury riddled seasons and I wouldn't count on getting a lot back. We're certainly not getting a good starter back. The problem is that this might be the Twins way of saying that they are choosing to move Span and they sell low in the offseason to do it.
  23. I think it's pretty simple. start Gibson slowly in spring training and then hold him back in instructionals for a few weeks before sending him to AAA. I don't know exactly what the Braves did with Medlen this year but it looks like it is working. If the Twins did bring back Baker then I would do the same. It might be a rough start to the season but the Twins could have a halfway decent rotation by the end of the season. Conveniently it would delay his FA by one year and possibly super 2.
  24. I absolutely think Trammell should be in the HOF so your argument is weak. Both were one of the best SS's in the game for a long time. That is part of my criteria for the HOF. The HOF isn't about only taking the best hitters at 1B/OF.
  25. I really don't think the Twins will make it through another season with Mauer/Morneau/doumit/Willingham all being healthy. The playing time issue will work itself out and there's even a chance that we're short solid hitters at 1B/DH next year due to injury/trades.
